1:15PM Zippy's already down by 321 votes. Not good. My guess is we're going to have to do a Temple this week and mount a late, last-second comeback. I sure hope the anti-Zippy voters go conservative on us and play not to lose late in the week and through the weekend ...

Seymour over Cavman or the other way around? I don't think it matters much since both are in the basement with 2-3 records. Cavman trails Seymour in the overall vote count by 2500+ votes. It's 12:10PM and Zippy is down by 205 votes to Monte. My "friends" and I got it down to about 190 from 220 before it started to creep back up. It's going to be a rough one again this week and we've got to stay on top of it and stay close. Goldy Gopher got himself down by almost 2000 votes to Otto last week before pulling back to within about 300 on Sunday. Unable to get it all back and that's why we've got to TRY to keep this thing close. We tend to have strong weekends and Mondays but ...

Congratulations Zippy!!! A perfect 5 - 0 and leading the overall vote count by about 2000 votes.I read Week 6 voting this way ...ZippyGoldy Gopher (worse record)Cavman (same record but 3000 fewer overall votes)Cocky (same record; ~1600 fewer overall votes)Joe Bruin (worse record)Otto (worse record)

Not THAT "coast" ... I mean the one where you're REALLY in control of the situation, CONTINUE doing for the most part what got you there, stay vigilant, and have the ability to go back on the offensive should that become necessary. THAT truly sucked Saturday night and I'm WAY beyond tired of "We would have won if we'd only gotten ONE more 1st down. It should have NEVER gotten that close. (Thanks a lot ... now I'm all pissed off again ...)

I spent a few minutes talking to Ryan Andrick. He had been in touch with KD over the summer and let KD know he was available to help if needed. Last Friday's practice was "his first day on the job." Ryan wasn't sure what his responsibilities would be and I didn't ask whether it was a paid position or not. Ryan is still teaching in the Springfield school system but is no longer coaching. I shook Steve Swiech's hand and told him it was nice to have him at Akron and that I appreciated his enthusiasm for wanting to be here. HUGE hands, just like the rest of him. As one other poster said, we've got truly BIG to go with tall in this one. Seems to be a really nice guy. Seeing the guys again Friday night and watching that mess Saturday night has me excited about the upcoming basketball season.

7:15AM Zippy's up by almost 500 votes with less than 2 hours to go. Should be able to coast at this point but it wouldn't hurt to keep voting a bit longer. Also need to make sure Otto finishes off Goldy Gopher. Great week for Zippy - heading towards a perfect 5-0 mark and each of the other 5 contests went the way we needed them to go. Care to try for 6 - 0 anyone?

Up by 30 or so. The key is to keep an eye on her and get through end of day tomorrow (Friday) in the ballpark. Catch them napping through the weekend and then hit it hard Monday morning through 9AM. Don't forget to vote while you're watching MLB baseball and college football tonight and tomorrow night.

2:25PM on Thursday ... back to a dead heat. Zippy had been up by as much as 260 votes late this morning. Keep voting!

MAC FB Week 7 Preview; Justice for Chuck
GoZips88 replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Football
It wouldn't bother me a bit if Notre Dame players, coaches and fans get to watch all 138 bowl games in the comfort of their own homes or dorm rooms this year. Never hurts to have a media darling on the sidelines while some of the "Who's Akron?" schools go bowling instead. -
Very interesting that the lead Seymour has enjoyed the last couple of days faded last night and has turned into a 200-vote lead for Zippy this morning. As I noted in a previous post, Seymour REALLY faded late last week and I was hoping to see that happen again this week. Zippy's voters really seem to be in this for the long haul and have consistently kept her in the running week in and week out. Keep it up everyone and keep your fingers crossed that voter fatigue and apathy will work in Zippy's favor as we head into the weekend. Let's all try to make a strong effort Monday morning in particular to create another big push as the 9AM deadline approaches. It's worked VERY well the last 4 weeks ... let's make it 5 in a row!Nice to see Cosmo (3-1) struggling big time against Hokiebird. Cosmo's currently down by 1600+ and I would expect that to continue and possibly go higher assuming we continue to vote in big numbers for Zippy and for Hokiebird while we're at it.Is it safe to say that Zippy is currently ranked #1 in the BCS (mascot) poll?! Probably has a lot of voters at the bigger schools scratching their heads ...

I'd ALMOST gotten over that !!!

3:15PM ... Zippy's down by 113. I'm really hoping we can stay close heading into the weekend. At that point, I begin to hope that gaps are wide enough in most of the other races that voters take a weekend break (leaders and losers). No doubt we have to stay on it from now until Monday at 9AM if we stand any chance of going 5-0. I haven't seen us drop below about 225 or so this week so we seem to be hanging in there. Come on Zippy fans ... we can do it!

R-E-V-E-N-G-E !!!Too bad the football game and conference soccer match overlap ... who came up with that?!?

I've got a Time Warner HD DVR receiver. I've got a number of recordings that I'd LOVE to transfer to my PC for editing. Do you any of you know how that can be done? PM me if you'd be willing to share your knowledge. Thanks!

Now that's a dedicated Zip fan.I was in a tent at Hocking Hills State Park with the Boy Scouts dying to hear what was happening. My friend, who was visiting Las Vegas, laid down some cash on the Zippers (got ten points, ha ha), left a message on my cell phone that the score was 39-38...BUT HE DIDN'T TELL ME WHO WON.I was dying! On the way back the next morning, I called my oldest son at home and had him read the article into the phone. The Zips win Saturday and the Indians win Friday made for an enjoyable weekend. What a weekend!Jason called in to the post-game show from Wake Forest, North Carolina and mentioned that you were out of town camping. I felt for ya! See you Saturday afternoon!

My son and I left Indianapolis just after the start of the game and listened to it and the post-game show on the 5-hour drive home. I called my wife on my mobile phone, she pulled up the audio on the computer, cranked up the speakers, placed the phone right up against one of the speakers, and my son and I enjoyed the game via mobile phone speakerphone. I about drove off of the road on I-71 just north of Columbus as my son and I high-fived each other and yelled and screamed right along with French and Stams. Right up there with the final play in Detroit a couple of years ago ... we were in Detroit and WISH we had been in Kalamazoo. Can't wait to see the video on gozips.com.

I e-mailed Mack Rhoades this morning and suggested he play that call on the PA system at the Rubber Bowl just prior to the PA announcer saying "All right, Zip fans, UP ON YOUR FEET! HERE are YYYOURRRR AKRON ZIPS!!!" Too bad we don't have a video screen at The Dump ... er ... the Rubber Bowl. I sure hope someone is able to get the video out on YouTube. Nobody at home to record it on the DVR for me. I wonder if the video can be married with Steve and Frank's call if that already hasn't already been done (wouldn't mind hearing how the Western guys called it too!).Thanks for contacting 1350AM and for the link!

EDIT: Sorry uakronkid ... didn't see your topic in 'General UA'Zippy's up on Seymour 147-114. Seymour hung in there against Cosmo through about Thursday and then faded out of sight over the weekend. Would be nice to see that happen again this week. From what I can tell looking at the standings and vote counts, here's how we should be voting this week.BIG RED over Hairy Dawg (both 2-2 but Hairy Dawg has a higher vote count)ZIPPY over Seymour HOKIEBIRD over Cosmo (Hokiebird is 2-2; Cosmo is 3-1 and right behind Zippy)JOE BRUIN over Cavman (Joe Bruin is 1-3; Cavman is 2-2)MONTE over Cocky (Monte is 1-3; Cocky is 2-2)OTTO over Goldy Gopher (Otto is 1-3; Goldy Gopher is 2-2)Please comment if any of you have a different take on the match-ups.Tough round last week ... way to go everyone!

11AM Thursday, , and Zippy's lead so far today has grown to 420 votes. I would expect to see that begin to erode but let's keep plugging away.As I said in a previous post, I hope voting fatigue and apathy set in for a few of the schools represented. There is a 2000+ differential in two of the contests this week and a 1000+ differential in two more. It would be nice if some voters resign themselves to either defeat or victory and take a rest until round 5. The less help for Bruin the better.GO ZIPPY!

WOW ... awesome job erasing a 5AM 150-vote deficit and bouncing out to a 350-vote lead by 10:15AM.Keep it up folks. It's going to come down to the last punches thrown Monday morning again this week.
-
8:10AM Thursday ... Zippy and Bruin are tied once again.Time to build that 200-300 vote cushion in anticipation of the late-day push Bruin will get this evening. Imperative that everyone continues to vote through the weekend and is ready to go Monday morning.
-
5AM on Thursday ...Zippy is down by about 150 votes. We were tied yesterday morning at 5AM. My concern is that we're getting farther and farther behind as the days go by and it is going to make it a bit tougher to catch back up with a final push on Monday. We'll see ...
-
Tried to get the video feed and gametracker and didn't have much luck. Was able to sign in but it kept telling me video and gametracker would begin as soon as the game begins. Could be I was trying after the game was already over.Do you have the final score?

Keep voting everyone ... so far, so good for Zippy this week but the Joe Bruin/Zippy battle seems to be heating up as we hit day 3. The Seymour/Cosmo contest is the only other one that is relatively (440 votes) close at this point but that contest has not experienced the big swings I've noticed in the Bruin/Zippy contest (Zippy up by 500 in the morning and then down slightly early the next morning). After being tied with Bruin at 5AM this morning, Zippy built a lead that seemed to peak at around 330 votes between 8-9AM. That lead has since dwindled to around 225 at 10:30AM. We have the advantage early in the day which should help us Monday morning. We are at a disadvantage later in the day given the time difference west of the Mississippi. Everyone needs to keep voting and remind others to keep voting. I think Zippy is REALLY going to begin to feel the pressure today and through at least the rest of the work week. I'm hoping we're close enough to Bruin Monday morning that another strong Monday morning push carries us through to another win. The key is to stay close and that is going to be tough assuming everyone else is out to spoil Zippy's perfect record. I know we're all getting tired of voting but keep it up!

WHOA GoZips! We need your voteS! Take a breath ... probably just a procedural thing.1. www.capitalonebowl.com2. Vote for one of the two in each head-to-head (Cocky, Seymour, Hairy Dawg, Hokiebird, ZIPPY, Otto this week).3. Enter the code that is displayed in the box. Sometimes it is VERY hard to read and what you type won't match. The system will tell you so after you hit Submit and will give you a new code to enter, hopefully one that is easier to read.4. Enter a nickname that you've created. Keep in mind that you can only vote once per day using THAT nickname but there is nothing preventing you from creating multiple nicknames. Also keep in mind that others may use your nickname if it is a fairly common one i.e. 'smith,' 'jones,' 'montana,' 'monte,' 'hairydawg,' 'otto,' 'syracuse,' ... (not that I have been stealing nicknames from others or anything like that ... ) If the system tells you that a nickname has already cast a vote that day, just move on to your next favorite nickname. Once a nickname has been set up, it can be used once daily from that day forward.5. Hit the Submit button.6. Clear your browser's cache, history, etc. by clicking on Tools/Delete Browsing History.../Delete all .../Yes (assuming you are using Internet Explorer 7).7. Close your browser, re-open it, and go back to step 1.I've tested this process many, many, many, MANY times each day just to make sure it works.Go Zippy!!!!!
