  1. Watching the replay....lest anyone think WB carelessly dropped the ball after the long run, it was a textbook roundhouse knockout punch to the pigskin by #25 Tindal before any real contact that knocked it loose. Of course you want to always protect the ball but Warren was clearly trying to take it all the way (which we would have needed him to do).
  2. They play Ga. State this week and then it's @MSU, @Mich, Tosu, and @Iowa so as good as they are they could be 3-4 by Oct. 22.
  3. As Detwiler mentioned in the broadcast, App. St. has a top 5 OL
  4. I don't think he's had it since he got remarried..
  5. http://buchtelite.com/32033/news/out-with-the-old/ "Meanwhile, Scarborough has joined the faculty as a professor in the business college. He is teaching two courses on strategic management and health care this semester." I'm assuming the Buchtelite would know if he wasn't. Seems very awkward though. I wonder if he found a place for his mother in law.
  6. That stat is helped by the fact that your conference scheduled included Purdue, Rutgers, Illinois, Maryland and Minnesota and didn't include Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State.
  7. No mention of the game or the Zips on the Zips' flagship radio station website, WARF 1350 AM ( http://sportsradio1350.iheart.com/ ). How embarrassing, I feel like our new AD is not learning to do a good enough job of begging for exposure. I will give them some credit though and assume they will start the pre-game show before the game, not after as posted on GoZips.com http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2016-17/releases/20160906f71eqm The Big Ten Network will televise the game with Matt Delvin (play-by-play) and Stanley Jackson (analyst), calling the game. The Zips' radio broadcast will air on the Akron-IMG Sports Network [SportsRadio 1350 AM (WARF) in Akron (flagship), 1420 WHK in Cleveland, 1440 WHKZ in Warren/Youngstown] with Steve French calling the action, Brad Detwiler providing analysis, and Joe Dunn with sideline report. The pregame show starts at 6 p.m. ET. A free audio stream is available at SportsRadio1350.com, iHeart Radio, and TuneIn.com/Akron Zips. Since the TV broadcast will be on the B10 Network, not ESPN/3, are there any plans for a watch party in Akron?
  8. He will get his yards, their TE will get his yards, but I don't think their QB Houston can hurt us too bad throwing downfield; he threw a couple of picks against LSU.
  9. If they have success overwhelming our inexperienced o-line, I hope TW4 can burn them with some scrambling and/or throwing on roll-outs. We didn't show that much on Sat.
  10. Iowa has a running back named Akron Wadley.
  11. It probably could have been salvaged if taken over by a real university.
  12. UA’s EXL Center going strong http://www.ohio.com/news/local/ua-s-exl-center-going-strong-1.709549
  13. Right, those were down years for us too but we still scared 'em good. We haven't really had an up year since 2005 when we won the MAC. Last year we won our first bowl game but didn't beat anyone with a winning record and got wrecked by our division champ. A B10 win would be almost as huge for us as the SEC win was for you. Go Zips!
  14. http://www.gozips.com/sports/wsoc/2016-17/releases/20160904pm0itv Nice win over Cleveland State

SERIES HISTORY Monday evening's game is only the fourth meeting between Akron and UCLA, and the first in Los Angeles, Calif., since Oct. 20, 991 (a 2-0 UCLA win). The Bruins lead the all-time series, 3-0, after registering a 4-2 triumph at FirstEnergy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field, a contest the Zips played without their leading scorer Richie Laryea. IN OUR LAST MEETING No. 25 UCLA def. No. 6 Akron, 4-2 (Nov. 1, 2015) AKRON, Ohio - In a battle of two of the more storied men's soccer programs in the country, a pair of second-half goals lifted No. 25 UCLA to a 4-2 victory over sixth-ranked Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. In a contest that was not indicative of the final score, the Zips and Bruins waged a non-conference showdown in which each side battle back and forth en route to recording 11 shots, with UCLA posting a 5-4 margin in shots on goal. Adam Najem (Clifton, N.J.) led all players with four shots for Akron, while Sam Gainford (Liverpool, England) added two shots. Seyi Adekoya paced the Bruins' attack with three shots, while three different UCLA players contributed a pair of shots. Jake Fenlason made one save for the Zips, while Pepe Barroso Silva corralled two stops for UCLA. Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Goncalo Soares (Lisbon, Portugal) netted the equalizer at the 53:14 mark to square Akron and UCLA at two. Stuart Holthusen (Auckland, New Zealand) beautifully played ball in ball from the corner of the box that Soares curled into the corner of the net from the top corner of the box for his first career goal. Najem narrowly missed giving the Zips their first lead of the evening in the 75th minute (74:13) as his strike the box struck the crossbar. The Bruins immediately stole the momentum off of the miss as Abu Danladi pushed the ball up the field to Adekoya, who scored his second goal of the game, for what proved to be the game-winning tally, at the 74:27 mark. The Zips were whistled for a foul in the box in the 82nd minute (81:08) that resulted in a successfully penalty kick for Jose Hernandez to give UCLA the final 4-2 margin. Adekoya opened the scoring in the affair converting a defensive turnover into his 10th goal of the year at the 7:14 mark off an assist from Danladi. Najem evened the game at one in the 29th minute (28:12). Niko De Vera (Camas, Wash.) played the ball up the sideline to Holthusen in the center of the field, who slide a long pass into a streaking Najem. The Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the intermission on the strength of a 30th minute (29:58) goal from Hernandez. 16. The poll under/over numbers turned out to be very well chosen.
  17. The ESPN announcers were calling out the Zips defensive coaching for not using a zone scheme to take away their big plays to the outside.
  18. Marshall had a bye in Week 1 and plays Morgan State this Saturday. So we will be their first FBS opponent and will have an extra game under our belt which will hopefully be to our advantage.
  19. And the Soap Box Derby officials are now complaining about the RB.
  20. That should have been an illegal use of the hands penalty
  21. Equipment malfunction? How many QBs wear a glove and neoprene sleeve on their throwing arm?!
  22. They should have moved that game to Infocision. Actually it's pretty ridiculous they didn't.
