  1. I have said in other threads that I would be the first to admit when I was wrong. I was wrong about Steve being loaned to a European club. Great alternative news though. Congrats, Steve.
  2. Answered my own question. I will settle for the radio. I love Frenchy! http://www.sportsradio1350.com/main.html
  3. Anyone have a free link to the MACC gametracker or video?
  4. I completely agree. The facilities and overall direction of the university must have garnered us some attention already even if just in casual conversation among other league administrators and presidents. We are at least on the radar although I don't see us going anywhere for 5-10 years.
  5. This would be great. I don't want to see Zakuani leave the Sounders because I'd like to go to a game in Seattle next year, perhaps vs KC or Chivas, or another MLS team where some of our current players may be. From what I've seen, best atmosphere in MLS (and possibly any major league sport). Lots of luck getting Sounders tickets that aren't marked up on StubHub or the like. The Sounders have sold out every game since since they first started MLS play. You're better off seeing them as the away team although I'm sure the atmosphere in Seattle is amazing.
  6. I agree, they do stink. However, they are no worse off (and I would argue at least a little bit better) than before Brian Kelly took over the team. He didn't sink a ship that was taking on water, he stabilized it. And let's not forget, the ship was sinking in part because of iCoach's influence. During is very brief tenure as acting head coach, the team could have gone to a bowl game, but decided instead to quit on their season. That says a lot to me right there.
  7. At the national level, England is not much better than we are, if at all. They just happen to have big name, EPL stars. I expect that Zakuani is being loaned to a big club in Europe during the MLS off-season, which benefits his career tremendously and potentially brings big dollars to the Sounders and MLS. Win-win all around unless he gets injured. Z.I.P. sighting in 3, 2, ...
  8. I'll reveal what I know. I know that we're winless with only two games to go. I know that we have a coach who the players hate and who resents his players. I know that our coordinators don't know how to call plays. I know that our position coaches have made the players at their positions worse than they were last year. I know that the athletic director doesn't care about the few hardcore fans that remain. I know that Akron will not be able to sell any football tickets next year. And I know that absolutely none of this bothers the AD or head coach. +1. And any fans who remain in support of the program via finances and attendance are only contributing to the problem. Might as well give an alcoholic a ride to the liquor store because in much the same way, you are being an enabler. Bottom line, if the support dries up, so will iCoach's tenure. It can't happen soon enough.
  9. Being fair to Ianello -- If the Zips convert two extra points, we're sitting at 2-7, with Buffalo still remaining. We shouldn't need an extra point to beat a poor I-AA school or even a terrible BSU team. I mentioned Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly as coaches who haven't taken a step back in their first year and seem to "coach-up" existing talent. For two other great examples, you need look no further than UA with KD and Coach Porter. Like I said, Al Golden is the only example that disproves my theory, and I am sure he didn't alienate most of the players and fans in doings so either. Good coaches don't experience such a drop-off in team performance in their first season. Good coaches and good teams win close games. Look at the UA futbol program for examples of this. We are so bad that we are yet to even luck into a win this season as several of JD's teams were able to do (e.g. WMU circa 2006).
  10. Recruited class rankings don't indicate anything talent-wise They are just a means of continuing to talk college football in the offseason and generating hype. Many of JD's recruiting classes were ranked best in the MAC and look where that got us. The point remains that if iCoach knows what he is doing, he'd be coaching-up our talent. Our team is underachieving. GW, Can't, and BSU were all games that should have been won. That is what we get for hiring a "recruiter." Brian Kelly, really? Have you watched a Notre Dame game this year? Given the talent at ND, I'd say he has maximized their potential. And to think, iCoach is partly responsible for that. Their last 3 recruiting classes are ranked #14, 21, and 2, respectively, according to Rivals. They have talent.

  12. Al Golden is the only exception that I am aware who violates my belief that good coaches are able to turn around a program with players from the previous regime. Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly are quintessential examples. Like great teachers, solid coaches maximize the potential of the players regardless of who initially recruited them. My outlook on iCoach is not good. Right now, he seems to be an alpha male lion who just obtained rights to a new pride and has tried to diminish prior influence and maximize his own by killing the cubs of the previous father. However, I will be the first to admit if/when I am wrong. Here's to hoping that I am.
  13. Does schedule strength matter when we can't win any I-A games and lost to a very mediocre I-AA school? We need to schedule games that we can be competitive in and likely win and build from there. We have a long way to go before complaining about our strength of schedule.
  14. I believe that on the woman's side, the winner of the MAC East automatically has at least the #2 seed.
  15. If we just disposed of the #9 team in the country and didn't happen to play well, I will be very impressed.
  16. where in Pitt are you? I'm about 2 minutes from Oakmont CC. From what I can see on the ZZ feed, we are playing poorly. Shadyside if you know where that is...3 miles or so east of downtown. I am familiar with the Oakmont area. Great bakery there. Did you have to pay for the ZZ feed? yeah, we are actually working at the Alcoa plant in New Kensington. yes, I paid for the feed, unfortunately, as the hotel internet can't keep a constant connection well enough to maintain the stream very well. Cool. Thanks. I'm a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon. I take it you're only in the area temporarily? yeah just this week. GOALLLL Nagbe(?)!!!! Beautiful give n go with I think(?) Ampai! Awesome! Any idea how many fans are there?

  19. Would anyone mind giving a halftime synopsis? I am in Pittsburgh and only able to follow on gametracker. By the hit post, shots, and fouls, it seems as if we are again dominating but just haven't finished one yet.
  20. Although this season has been a train wreck, I still enjoy the charisma of your posts, Captain. I generally agree with everything you say, and this time is no different.

  22. Lightn up, guys. This is not the football program. We have the best team in the country, and Porter and the captains acknowledged the let down. If this is a regular occurrence, then get concerned and critical. Don't worry though, it won't be. What a great problem to have: not playing well at all and still winning in front of a large crowd to win the MAC regular season championship. Look at what this program has given to its alumni and fans! They deserve our patience every once in a while. That is the reality of any relationship be it personal, professional, or fan-team. More on this topic in an individual thread later. Clean it up! Prove that you are classy, loyal fans!
  23. I know the scheduling topic has been discussed here, ad nauseum; however, I wish we scheduled YSU as our I-AA game every year.
