  1. So the question becomes, will OSWho try to pack it in and hold on for the 1-0 victory or continuing to attack? I'm guessing that as the game continues, there will be a progressive trend toward the former. We are simply to good for most teams to play an open game against us for 90 minutes.
  2. Would love to beat the quitter in the tourney. I wouldn't say he was a quitter. He was a good coach that elevated the program and is partly responsible for where we are now. He left because he didn't think he could compete for a National Championship at Akron. He was wrong and I'd love to prove his theory wrong by beating Louisville on the road to becoming Louisville is a match-up that really interests me because they are a big name school, and we trail in the all-time series with them 0-2-1. 3. They are up to #6 in the CSN poll, and I think they are dangerous for us in the Tournament.
  4. Such students should be ridiculed to the point of embarrassment for wearing other school's gear on campus. It always happens with the freshman wearing their high school letterman's jackets to college. Other universities' gear should be no different. Poni is right, it is discouraging to see such things.
  5. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page10040.htm Don't forget to read the conclusion on the second page! http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page8500.htm I didn't think it was possible for us to be better than we were last year, but I think we are. Here's to hoping I didn't just jinx us for OSWho tomorrow night,
  6. I totally disagree. Keeping IU on their toes is what allows the game to open up. Making such a call is fun for the players, and they'll play best when having fun. I know, he dropped it. Big deal! If he had made the catch, you'd be saying what a great call it was! The play call also demonstrates to everyone that you're playing to win, and I personally love that. No picking up the check and walking away with your tail between your legs. While I was critical of the coaching staff after the loss to GW, the past two weeks have shown steady improvement. Keep it up! I don't expect to win the MAC East because Temple is too good. NIU is also a likely loss, but 6-6 isn't out of the question. 4-8 is more likely though.
  7. Speaking of TV, does anyone have an online link for those of us out of the city/state/country? http://atdhe.net/tv/watch_fox_soccer_channel.html ? It didn't work for me. Any thoughts?
  8. A late Rodgers-to-Russell TD caps the improbable comeback. Porter had to think he had this one in the bag? The difference, though, was that Porter backed off in the first game. I don't think iCoach did that against UK.
  9. Why am I thinking that a picture from Major League of Randy Quaid and those two other guys in the bleachers would be appropriate here? If going, I think I'd be more cynical than supportive. Hey look, it's trimmy10 and GP1:
  10. Ask and you shall receive. This is accurate to the end of the 2008 season. Men's Soccer 2009 media guide, page 36 Wow, awesome find, ZachTheZip! Thanks. A few thoughts based on the all-time records and my earlier posts: No doubt about it, the Zips own Ohio and the MAC. 25-6-2 against OSWho. Check out the record against Can't: 15-0-0, 62-9 aggregate goals...Can't is just Zippy's B$&ch Programs that we do not have a winning record against in the all-time series that would make great match-ups: Cal State-Fullerton (0-1-0), UCSB (0-1-0), UConn (0-0-2), Duke (0-3-0), Evansville (8-9-1), Fresno State (2-2-1), Geoergetown (0-0-1), Indiana (5-23-2, ouch!), Louisville (0-2-1), Maryland (1-1-0), NC State (0-1-0), New Mexico (1-1-0), Northwestern (1-1-0), Portland (0-1-1), Rutgers (1-1-0), UCLA (0-2-0), Washington (1-1-0), Wisconsin-Milwaukee (8-9-0), and Wisconsin (1-2-0) Sparkling records against big name schools or soccer programs: Cincinnati, Dayton, Kentucky, Marquette, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oakland, OSWho, Pitt, and West Virginia I would love to see Coach Porter starting to schedule OOC games with the intention of taking the lead in some of these series. Even to the extent of labeling them on the schedule as "All-Time Matchup Game" or similar. Would be exciting for the fan base because many are name brand schools with good soccer programs. So, they would also fulfill the purpose of preparing the team for the NCAA Tournament too. Traveling into town this weekend to see us chalk up another win against Cincinnati.
  11. I wish the UA soccer program had a listing of all the schools we've played in our history and our records against those schools. Michigan is the only program that has exactly what I'm looking for: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-soccer/spe.../052609aaa.html Add Harvard and Dayton to my list of prospective opponents.
  12. It's what many of us wish could and would happen to amateur athletes (Getting a life after college). But, I'm not sure what your point is GP-1 -- and come clean, did you marry a sweater girl? Miami BS Accounting UofA MBA finance So I guess the answer is...sort of. BTW, did you see that the Tea Party elected a woman who is against masturbation? If they outlaw jacking off, what are engineering majors going to do for fun on Friday and Saturday nights? Hey now, GP1, no ripping on us engineers unless you are one yourself. Take it as more of a trip down memory lane..... And also as a word of advice, GP1, don't mention your wife and j/o in the same post. In saying that, you're just asking for trouble with this crowd.
  13. After ripping on the football team this past weekend, GP1 is trying to regain some street cred by making himself sound particularly distinguished and intelligent. Keep up the good work on both fronts, GP1.
  14. You should consider sending emails about this to Drs. Chase, Chuang, and Ju of the Chemical Engineering Department as well. What you describe seems to be a multi-disciplinary problem, not one that is limited to polymers.

  16. Honestly, I think we are so deep and talented that all 11 starters and a few bench players are potentially worthy of this distinction. However, to be fair and interesting to other programs, our representation may be limited. Yes, I know we have many more players than the next most represented program, but I feel we really are that good individually. I too have no idea what the ranking is based on. I assume it is 100% subjective and only represents one writer's opinion. It sure is good exposure for the program and University though!
  17. I really liked the match-up against Stanford at home last year in the NCAA Tournament. Loved Teal's Tiger Woods goal celebration! On further thought, I'd love a home game against Cal as they are Top 25 and the Zips have already beaten my girlfriend's other alma mater (UNC). It's a rare opportunity to play against PAC-10 teams too.
  18. I can't believe nobody beat me to this, but given the beatdown we are about to receive, I think we'll need some KY.
  19. I am still guilty of being too optimistic at 35-0, aren't I? 55-0 Kentucky 7 X 8 = 56, not 55....unless you think they will score on the last play of the game and not try the PAT. Maybe they'll kick two field goals at some point to give their PK a little practice. Or maybe they will want to get their kickoff kicker a bit more practice and kickoff to start both halves.
  20. Is that the ding-aling you were looking for? --edit-- After thinking, my best answer is: Anybody -- so long as it's in Santa Barbara and in December. Exactly what I was looking for Z.I.P.! I should have considered Northwestern though. And you're right, I like all schools mentioned so long as they are 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 home versus away deals. I also like the idea of repeatedly playing anyone we don't have a lead in the all-time series against until we take the lead back. Can we play IU five times per season? At that rate, it might only take four years to even things out a bit. Ouch!
  21. Who would you like to see the Zips play on the futbol field in the future? Doesn't have to be on a future schedule, but could be prospective NCAA Tournament opponents as well. Mine are as follows: Louisville (Ken Lolla has them approaching the Top 10 and I don't ever remember UA playing them) Indiana (we have an abysmal record in the all-time series and it would be great to get one back while we are up and they are down) Wisonsin (the only Big Ten team I don't remember us playing except for the preseason and they have won a National Championship before) Pitt (they are terrible but again, an opponent I don't remember us playing; they are close; let's return the favor from football and basketball) Maryland (we need to redeem the game from the 2005 Tournament) St. Louis (a traditionally strong program with many National Championships) SMU (the only school from Texas worth a thought) Looking forward to Z.I.P chiming in on this one.
  22. This is the same kind of complacency and wait and see approach that got us a loss at home against a very mediocre I-AA team. The complacency was apparent to the players and influenced their performance. We have standards. Regardless of a new coach, they should never fall below the threshold of accepting a loss to a I-AA school. They also should not include accepting poor discipline (i.e. careless penalties) or not expecting a week to week improvement just because these aren't the players iCoach recruited Shame on you for cutting him such a break! Other than OSU, this region hasn't had a winner in nearly 50 years! There is opportunity for us to fill that niche albeit never to the extent that OSU does. That doesn't happen by making excuses or taking a wait and see approach. That is what got us into trouble opening a new stadium with JD's regime still at the helm. Now we will be rebuilding for three straight years after opening that gorgeous stadium. I didn't expect this team to win the MACC or even the MAC east this year. However, being competitive, playing hard and disciplined football, and continuing to improve is not too much to ask for. If iCoach can't do those things with these players, he will never be able to develop talent or get the team to perform even if he lands some big name recruits. Games are played on the field as a TEAM, not on the recruiting trail. As I said before, the facilities should sell themselves and the University. iCoach needs to build a program that has some character before there is anything else to sell and that depends on the performance standards I just mentioned. Getting thumped by two BCS schools the next two weeks won't tell us much. Though, if this crap continues through the MAC schedule and we end up 0-12, he deserves to go. The MAC is a terrible I-AA level conference and we should be able to win at least a couple of those games. iCoach has been handed a healthy salary and a great opportunity. Let's see what he does with it. No more excuses!
  23. You'll be wrong. Unless you plan on seeing 10,000 people at a soccer game this year. Because, that was the attendance for our final home football game last season, at the end of a horrible season, in freezing cold weather. I was at that game against EMU. There were maybe 4,000 people actually there. I'm talking actual attendance, not "announced" attendance. Trimmy. I know what you're trying to say. I make the same argument on here all the time....attendance vs. how many people are in the stands. But, what are you going to do? Count people? And I am sure soccer counts their attendance the same way, with tickets sold. I do NOT need any factual evidence. I'm simply trying to make a point of how good the soccer team is and how bad the football team is. We might be the only university in the country to be able to EVER declare such a distinction.
