We are actually overachieving. Ball St. proved to be the better team because they beat us on the field. Yet, we beat them in attendance!

Creation of a Supporters' Group

Liking it, but i'm still thinking more badassedness is needed. Badassed? OK. What about "The A-Team"? You can use the old moving 'A' in the logo. Now that is badass! -
Agreed. And when the team struggles, there is not a single player to step-up and put the team on their back. Overall, I don't think it is a lack of talent. I believe the problems have to do with heart and team chemistry. Defense and rebounding are all about heart and effort. There is still plenty of games left to be played this season though. I think we will rally. Besides, if we make the MAC Tournament, those are the only games that really matter anyhow. The other post-season tournaments are nice but the only way to advance the program and earn respect is to win the MACC and play in the NCAA Tournament. We will make the MAC Tournament. Let's see what happens.

Giving up 39 to Miami in a half is the equivalent of 50 against anyone else. Where is our defense? Defense is supposed to be a staple of KD's teams.

It is a sad day when the Sweaters are blowing us out by 15 in the first half. There are some games the Charlie Coles Sweaters don't even score 15 points total in a half...I am thinking back to one of their extremely sloppy games at the Q a year or so ago. Anybody?

I am not spamming, this is legit. www.DMAchoice.org If you sign-up and go through the steps, the service eliminates junk mail from credit cards, insurance companies, catalogs from which you have never purchased anything, etc. I did it and it was really easy. Similar to a do-not-call registry.

One game, look at our overall records and the teams we've each beat and lost to. OU has lost to some terrible teams, I would say the only bad team we've lost to besides Buffalo is Ohio University. We may not have killed the teams we were supposed to kill but at least won. We just haven't upset anyone yet. You could argue that Can't, Miami, and Akron are all better than OU, and the argument is pretty good save for one fluke win that the Bobcats have over us. Are you dillusional? We got worked in that game against OU. We had no answer for Kellogg or their PG.

I don't think we are better than Ohio or Can't. I'm not trying to be negative but rather, realistic. Ohio proved it on the court and Can't was without their best player in our house. I hope I am wrong, and only the remainder of the season will tell. Go Zips!

This is why it is being called. I saw something on TV about the crackdown of elbows. If I remember right, the elbow can not be above the shoulder or something like that. Then how does one grab a rebound or shoot or dunk or defend over the head passes or...?

I was unable to watch or listen to the UA-Buffalo game today. Nothing stands out as a glaring weakness in the boxscore other than we were outscored. What happened? Was Zeke in foul trouble? Did we not defend well? This loss really hurts in terms of the standings, and I think we will look back on this game as being crucial. Even though we already lost in-conference at home, at least it was to Ohio (potentially the best team in the league). We needed two wins against Buffalo.

If true, that would be amazing!

Here is our new guy! I am impressed. I never knew Notre Dame College (Ohio) had such a good season. http://naia.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/120610aaa.html "Dec. 6, 2010 KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2010 NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Teams, as selected by the NAIA Men's Soccer All-America Selection Committee. There are three teams in addition to an honorable mention list. Junior forward Luke Holmes of Notre Dame College (Ohio) was honored as the 2010 Brine-NAIA National Player of the Year. The native of Oldham, England earned the American Mideast Conference Player of the Year title. On the year, he led the team with 24 goals and 58 points. He went for five goals and two assists in five National Championship matches in leading the Falcons to a school-record runner-up finish at the tournament. For his efforts in the National Championship, he was tabbed the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. His goal total is third-most this year in the NAIA and the points mark is No. 3 on the list. So far in his three-year career, Holmes has recorded a school-record 70 career goals and 164 points. The Brine-NAIA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year will be released in mid-January during the NSCAA National Convention in Baltimore, Md."

Is OU this good or are we playing that bad? We need one player to step up when we are struggling and pull us out of these shooting droughts. Isn't that what one of the seniors is supposed to do?

Championship merchandise

When will players' names be placed on back of jersey? We would be the first collegiate soccer team to do so. What a statement THAT would make! No worries; Ampaipitakwong has exited the program. More importantly, he has graduated. -
As a Cleveland native and co-owner of the Seattle Sounders, Drew Cary must be familiar with the Zips soccer program. He also has a Twitter account. So, who's going to invite him to a Zips soccer game next season? (I don't have or want a Twitter account.) I think it would be great for our local publicity and even nationally if he attended a game that was on the Fox Soccer Channel. Not only that, but I think he would really enjoy the atmosphere in addition to "dominant" soccer!

Potential College Football Scandal
UAZipster0305 replied to Dave in Green's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
A big part of why I enjoy following the Zips is that they are big enough to "compete" (cough football) with the big boys and play big name opponents but not so big that this level of corruption is running rampant. I hope we never get to be so big that we welcome huge money, power, and corruption on campus. -
State of ohio moves forward to the 1990s

From Wikipedia: The U.S. Department of Energy considers Amtrak among the most energy-efficient forms of transportation. Proponents point out that the government heavily subsidizes the Interstate Highway System, the Federal Aviation Administration, many airports, among many aspects of passenger aviation. Massive government aid to those forms of travel was a primary factor in the decline of passenger service on privately owned railroads in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition, Amtrak pays property taxes (through fees to host railroads) that highway users do not pay. Advocates therefore assert that Amtrak should only be expected to be as self-sufficient as those competing modes of transit. Along these lines, in a June 2008 interview with Reuters, Amtrak President Alex Kummant made specific observations: $10 billion per year is transferred from the general fund to the Highway Trust Fund; $2.7 billion is granted to the FAA; $8 billion goes to "security and life safety for cruise ships." Overall, Kummant claims that Amtrak receives $40 in federal funds per passenger, while highways are subsidized at a rate of $500–$700 per automobile. Moreover, Amtrak provides all of its own security, while airport security is a separate federal subsidy. Kummant added: "Let's not even get into airport construction which is a miasma of state, federal and local tax breaks and tax refinancing and God knows what." According to the United States Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, rail and mass transit are considerably more subsidized on a per passenger-mile basis by the federal government than other forms of transportation; the subsidy varies year to year, but exceeds $100 dollars (in 2000 dollars) per thousand passenger-miles, compared to subsidies around $10 per thousand passenger-miles for aviation (with general aviation subsidized considerably more per passenger-mile than commercial aviation), subsidies around $4 per thousand passenger-miles for intercity buses, and automobiles being a small net contributor through the gas tax and other user fees rather than being subsidized.[77] On a total subsidy basis, aviation, with many more passenger-miles per year, is subsidized at a similar level to Amtrak. The analysis does not consider social costs and benefits, or difficult to quantify effects of some regulation, such as safety regulation. -

BUT when it hits $5.00 and $6.00, that HSR that the other states have will look awful good... Could you show me some source for your prediction that gas prices will go up that high and that it would have any relation to high speed rail? Honestly, if you have it, I truly would like to see it. When is that predicted to happen? Show me where the world is NEVER going to start running out of petroleum. And I never said the price of gas has anything to do with HSR. But WHEN petrol goes up, for any of a bunch of reasons, it sure would be nice to have an alternative mode of transportation. Ohio is so stuck in the past I can't stand it. There are still people all over Ohio waiting around for the steel mills to open back up. WAKE UP. It's not the 50's anymore. There's a reason most of the worst rust belt wastelands are in Ohio and people are leaving everyday... +1. HSR isn't a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Because of the current backwards, conservative thinking, Ohio will once again lag behind most other states in this development. I would rather take the train than drive or fly any day. If the argument for the train is that someday the world will run out of oil, then the discussion has gotten a little out-there. Yes, someday the world will run out of oil. But not for a few hundred years. New reserves are being found and existing reserves tend to have more supply than initially projected. Its not really a persuasive argument to build this train. Its more realistic to predict that gas prices will go up because of higher taxes than we run out of oil. I'm a believer in alternative energy sources, mainly to get us off of our dependence on foreign oil. I actually like the idea of a high speed train in Ohio and I think it should be built when it makes financial and technical sense. It just doesn't make sense now. As I said before, the federal government has no money and is deeply in debt. The state is in bad financial shape as well. Painful budget cuts are going to have to made everywhere. There is no money. I wasn't referring to when we run out of oil, but rather when the expense of oil increases in the next 2-3 years that it becomes prohibitive for many people to drive and drastically increasing rail ridership potential. It will happen, and once again, Ohio will be behind the times. Sad. Your budget argument doesn't work either because the money will definitely be spent. It is just that the money is now going to other states. HSR is a necessary INVESTMENT. If we wait for demand to dictate building, it will already be years late when it is finally built and operating.
