  1. Is that the ding-aling you were looking for? --edit-- After thinking, my best answer is: Anybody -- so long as it's in Santa Barbara and in December. Exactly what I was looking for Z.I.P.! I should have considered Northwestern though. And you're right, I like all schools mentioned so long as they are 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 home versus away deals. I also like the idea of repeatedly playing anyone we don't have a lead in the all-time series against until we take the lead back. Can we play IU five times per season? At that rate, it might only take four years to even things out a bit. Ouch!
  2. Who would you like to see the Zips play on the futbol field in the future? Doesn't have to be on a future schedule, but could be prospective NCAA Tournament opponents as well. Mine are as follows: Louisville (Ken Lolla has them approaching the Top 10 and I don't ever remember UA playing them) Indiana (we have an abysmal record in the all-time series and it would be great to get one back while we are up and they are down) Wisonsin (the only Big Ten team I don't remember us playing except for the preseason and they have won a National Championship before) Pitt (they are terrible but again, an opponent I don't remember us playing; they are close; let's return the favor from football and basketball) Maryland (we need to redeem the game from the 2005 Tournament) St. Louis (a traditionally strong program with many National Championships) SMU (the only school from Texas worth a thought) Looking forward to Z.I.P chiming in on this one.
  3. This is the same kind of complacency and wait and see approach that got us a loss at home against a very mediocre I-AA team. The complacency was apparent to the players and influenced their performance. We have standards. Regardless of a new coach, they should never fall below the threshold of accepting a loss to a I-AA school. They also should not include accepting poor discipline (i.e. careless penalties) or not expecting a week to week improvement just because these aren't the players iCoach recruited Shame on you for cutting him such a break! Other than OSU, this region hasn't had a winner in nearly 50 years! There is opportunity for us to fill that niche albeit never to the extent that OSU does. That doesn't happen by making excuses or taking a wait and see approach. That is what got us into trouble opening a new stadium with JD's regime still at the helm. Now we will be rebuilding for three straight years after opening that gorgeous stadium. I didn't expect this team to win the MACC or even the MAC east this year. However, being competitive, playing hard and disciplined football, and continuing to improve is not too much to ask for. If iCoach can't do those things with these players, he will never be able to develop talent or get the team to perform even if he lands some big name recruits. Games are played on the field as a TEAM, not on the recruiting trail. As I said before, the facilities should sell themselves and the University. iCoach needs to build a program that has some character before there is anything else to sell and that depends on the performance standards I just mentioned. Getting thumped by two BCS schools the next two weeks won't tell us much. Though, if this crap continues through the MAC schedule and we end up 0-12, he deserves to go. The MAC is a terrible I-AA level conference and we should be able to win at least a couple of those games. iCoach has been handed a healthy salary and a great opportunity. Let's see what he does with it. No more excuses!
  4. You'll be wrong. Unless you plan on seeing 10,000 people at a soccer game this year. Because, that was the attendance for our final home football game last season, at the end of a horrible season, in freezing cold weather. I was at that game against EMU. There were maybe 4,000 people actually there. I'm talking actual attendance, not "announced" attendance. Trimmy. I know what you're trying to say. I make the same argument on here all the time....attendance vs. how many people are in the stands. But, what are you going to do? Count people? And I am sure soccer counts their attendance the same way, with tickets sold. I do NOT need any factual evidence. I'm simply trying to make a point of how good the soccer team is and how bad the football team is. We might be the only university in the country to be able to EVER declare such a distinction.

  6. ...Pretty much sums it up. http://www.ohio.com/sports/102717739.html
  7. My prediction: The soccer team will be outdrawing the football team on a per game basis for the final games of the season. With exception to the Can't game, the soccer team will also outdraw the basketball team on a per game basis.
  8. Rodriguez didn't lose to Appalachian State. Lloyd Carr did. The Lloyd Carr with about 5 Big Ten titles and a National Championship. And guess what. They fired his ass for that bullshit. We should follow suit. +1 Don't pass go. Don't collect $200.
  9. A coach coaches players, not a system. Any recruit that iCoach brings in won't be so drastically better than any of those from the Brookhart era. Consider that JD's best year was with mostly Owen's recruits.
  10. Why wasn't "Not soon enough." an option in this poll?
  11. +1 I hate reading that so and so is a great recruiter. To me, that means salesman or bullshit artist. Our facilities now sell themselves provided a recruit agrees to come to campus. No great skill necessary for that. A coach who can develop players and potentially give the best few every year a chance at the NFL while winning consistently will also sell himself. Bottom line, a "great recruiter" is just smoke and mirrors. When we were in the Rubber Bowl with no Field House or on campus practice facilities, that's when we needed a great recruiter! Why is it so hard for the thinking of administrators to evolve? We are no longer Akron U, we are the University of Akron with commensurate facilities.
  12. At the college level, the main responsibility of the coach is to lead the team to winning. He does this through holding the players accountable and providing a consistently communicated plan. Afterall, the coach is the only one getting paid. Player leadership and the desire to win only go so far in spite of poor coaching. So, I don't blame the players, I feel sorry for them, but only to an extent. Bring Brian Kelly in here and I bet we'd consistently improve throughout the year and win the MAC next year with THESE players!
  13. I bet NIU and the people in the MAC Offices are breathing just a bit easier after the near loss to North Dakota. Has the MAC had a single respectable out-of-conference performance yet? Buffalo is getting worked over by lowely Baylor and BUGS wasn't really close with Tulsa all game. Sad to say but Can't against BC might be as close as it gets. The disparity between the MAC and other I-A conferences is staggering. After all the success of the 2003 season, the MAC has essentially become a I-AA conference. Hell, YSU had around 15k fans relative to our 10k. It's a dire situation, folks.
  14. Maybe a former player for the Director of Basketball Operations position. I would love to see Cedrick Middleton come back if playing in Europe doesn't work out for him. Any chance Dials would change his mind about working for the Sweaters? I know I'll get hammered for this, but it looks like the rats are abandoning the ship, like ASAP. Don't look outside your portals Zips fans, but that thar is an iceberg! What would a Hawaiian know about icebergs? Stick with soccer, Z.I.P.
  15. I will be going to both UNC and WF. I have even recruited a UNC student I know to get a picture dressed in Zips gear while holding her UNC student ID.

  17. I don't have a problem with Lebron leaving Cleveland. Akron is his hometown anyhow. Nonetheless, I didn't like the way in which he chose to leave by throwing it in the faces of NEO sports fans on national television while not giving the Cavs an opportunity to go after any other marquee players this year. Lebron is one of the best of his era, but will never be Jordan. To obtain that throne all he had to do was bring a few championships to a city starving for success. In a single decision intended to do the opposite, he just limited his legacy. The Sports Illustrated article said it best: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ...tml?xid=shareFB In general, I believe that what hurts Cleveland benefits Akron and I don't think this will be any different. Cleveland is officially the sports equivalent of a 3rd world country now! The next low point for Cleveland?...Losing CLE's hub status because of the United-Continental merger. Two years tops...ala Michael Reghi, "Book it!"
  18. http://www.mlsnet.com/news/article/what-wi...-team-look-2014 In the paragraph about midfielders. I would love to see him get the opportunity. I love the World Cup, and having a UA alum on the roster would make it that much more interesting. I've placed the bait. Now, Z.I.P. sighting in...3, 2...
  19. Let's be honest, the men's soccer team has more proven playmakers on its bench than the football team has on the entire roster. The criticism is fair. We are not very good until proven otherwise...especially based on last year's results, which drive these previews.
  20. What Western Kentucky lacks in football, they more than make up for in basketball having made the tourney regularly and actually having made a run or two. The MACC has not even won a game (since Ohio this year) in 5+ years. We'd be lucky to have them. SIU is solid academically and in both football and basketball. I like the natural rivalry with NIU too. We'd be lucky to have them as well. Both schools would give this conference a boost. Temple on the other hand makes this conference look bad. They are using us as a very temporary stepping stone to a better conference after being banished from the Big East. If the on-field performance doesn't establish conference hierarchy, accepting another conference's reject certainly does. It's like admitting that we suck. No commissioner should have permitted Temple to join without becoming a full member. Think about it, if Temple was given that ultimatum, what choice would they have had with football?...That's right, join the MAC as a full member or drop football to I-AA. All or nothing! Not only that, but they screw up the football scheduling. As a result, they have prevented us from playing (and likely getting rare wins) against one of our biggest rivals in Miami in recent years. Get rid of them!
  21. I still think the MAC should make Temple join as a full member or kick them out. Then add Southern Illinois and/or Western Kentucky.
  22. Actually, if you rank by total attendance (and not average), we were #4 for 2009. Behind only UCSB, Maryland, and UConn in that order. I look for attendance to improve with upgraded facilities and an even bigger brand name for the program after the NCAAC appearance. Here's to another great season.
  23. "Nexus of failure to the north..." I love it and couldn't agree more. What would it be like without the Cleveland Clinic and Case up there? Scary to think about. I agree, anything Akron can do to separate and distinguish itself is a good thing.
  24. No offense taken. Keep having fun. The only serious subject on ZN.O is the final score of Zips games. I am always serious when I say that Can I get a ?
  25. Then someone (not me) should update the UA Wikipedia page accordingly.
