  1. I was there. Maybe 2,000? Very rough estimate, but definitely not 10K or even 1/3 of that.
  2. Thanks to Hilltopper for providing myself and parents with tickets to today's game. Was in from out of town and wanted to see the Info as much as anything. I was really impressed with it and the changes on campus.A few random notes:The band is awesome!Nicely and Wagner are very impressive.Nicely has room to learn (e.g. sliding on the run on third and long that resulted in a fumble and the first interception). This will come with time and (hopefully) good coaching. The play calling on offense is extremely simple and predictable as pointed out by my mother. If the 3-3-5 only slows EMU down, it will never be good enough to win the MAC.Saw Coach Porter with his wife and infant. Very impressed by the overall support among the Athletic Department especially considering the opposite ends of the spectrum. Very classy on Coach Porter's part. I hope he stays after this season.JD can go. While a hardworking gentleman, the facilities investment requires that the team win and fill the stadium. Today's attendance was the only proof necessary that JD has not earned the right to return. It is time for a change, and I wish him the best.I think an Annual Black Friday game could be well attended if both teams were competitive. The MEN's restroom was crowded at halftime in spite of the <2,000 fans. Was this a problem earlier in the season with the large crowds?Good to see that Can't lost today. Can't wait until Sunday for the soccer game against Stanford!
  3. I'll take them. What would be the best means of arranging pick-up?
  4. huh? they play them on the road. in fact, their first home game is 1/16. I'd rather see Akron play Austin Peay at home than nobody. Do you really thing GT would come to Akron? There is no upside to playing us at home, for any big team like that. Just nothing to gain..I was simply saying this is necessary to build a program and a fan base. Losing to Austin Peay at home early in the season is counterproductive in this sense.
  5. Damn! Impressive. If we had a 50-50 home-away schedule with opponents like that there might actually be large scale community interest in Zips basketball before conference play begins. That's what it takes to sellout the JAR and require a new arena. No one wants to come watch the Zips lose their first game to Austin Peay, but Georgia Tech (win or lose) might be another story. I could see a sellout for a game like that...especially after coming off a Tournament appearance and having a top 50 recruit.
  6. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...caa&cc=5901"There's no question the Zips are the team to beat. However, despite the Zips' 20-0 record this season, there are still those who have reservations about Akron because of its Mid-American Conference background. A team doesn't go undefeated and receive the tournament's No. 1 seed based on luck and a weak schedule. The Zips are the real deal, but favorites have fallen in the NCAA tournament. Everyone will be gunning for this team, and it's up to coach Caleb Porter's squad to answer the skeptical once and for all. If not, it will be an even longer winter in Ohio."
  7. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page560.htmStetson (14-3-2) vs. South Florida (13-3-3) - These two teams faced each other in a preseason match with South Florida prevailing 3-0 but the game was much closer than the score indicated. The fact that Stetson has fourteen wins means that they are a team to be taken seriously but South Florida’s quickness and the solid play of goalkeeper Jeff Attinella should enable the Bulls to advance. The bad news is that the winner of this one must travel to face an Akron team that is 20-0-0 and still hungry. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page467.htm#1 Akron Bracket: (Love how that reads! ) First Round – Stetson (14-3-2) at South Florida (13-3-3)
 Second round – Winner at #1 Akron (20-0-0)First Round - St. Mary’s (10-4-5) at Stanford (10-5-2)
Second round – Winner at #16 UC Irvine (15-6-0)First round – Green Bay (14-2-3) at Notre Dame (10-7-4)
Second round – Winner at #9 Northwestern (10-4-4)First round – Missouri State (12-4-2) at Saint Louis (14-6-0)
Second round – Winner at #8 Tulsa (13-4-2)
  8. I like how the bracket sets up for us...revenge potential against USF and Northwestern and the idea of a big name west coast PAC-10 school like Stanford coming to Akron is awesome! If making the Final Four, any game we get will be tough, but I'd prefer to play OSU again over UNC. However, IF we get UNC and manage to beat them in their own back yard and go on to win the National Championship, this team may be able to claim it is the best of the modern era in D-I and potentially of all time! Here's to revenge and an exciting run at the National Championship! (Someone with more time and computer talent than myself needs to make an emoticon similar to the one above that simply says, "Go Zips!")
  9. I'm excited, so I thought I'd start the thread. We are already and we know that , so why not too?
  10. I thought about writing her an email regarding the fact that we weren't one of her top ten favorites to win the national championship this year.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...caa&cc=5901
  11. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...caa&cc=5901Right on! Enjoy.
  12. We don't need help provided we take care of business in the MACC. We would have a 20-0-0 record and the #1 RPI. Enough said.
  13. +1 :champs:The Rowdies will own Sparty!http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-soccer.../110309aaa.html"We're going in with the mentality that we have nothing to lose," said junior Colin Givens. "We are going to go at them and maybe play a little more risky than we ordinarily would. We're excited."The 16-0 Zips have outscored their opponents by a count of 45-3 this season and are 4-0 against the Big Ten, defeating Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.
  14. We have by far the best futbol team in the country and one of the worst football teams in D-I. Tragically ironic considering the talent on the football team is actually pretty good IMO.More than ever I am looking forward to the Captain's review of this one.
  15. "New Orange coach Doug Marrone has this team playing better and they will not lose to Akron two years in a row even though this a team the Zips have the talent to beat."...and what exactly does that say about our coach? Goodbye, JD. You've earned it.
  16. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...caa&cc=5901http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/...tory?id=3667592Hope Coach Porter pursued the undecided #3 and #4 players.http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/...tory?id=3776407
  17. Friday: Akron Aeros could win their league, ST V versus Hoban, UA versus IU in a sold out soccer matchSaturday: Another big UA game at the Info and first win over a Big Ten school in over 100 years.Sunday: UA versus St. Louis in men's soccerAm I forgetting anything?
  18. If this isn't posted on Wikipedia for both the University and Stadium, it needs to be soon!
  19. Where on campus is it going though?
  20. No better place or time to say that
  21. Scalping for a Zips game? I must be dreaming.Looks like it was a good choice not to open with a "name" opponent. Game 1 sold out because its new and Game 2 sold out because of the B11 team. Nice! Will also likely be sold out for homecoming against OU and then again for the beatdown that will be the Can't State game. I'm only concerned about the EMU game at the end of the season if UA is not competitive for a MACC or bowl bid. Unlikely though IMO.
  22. http://www.nscaa.com/seniorRes.php?it=1064http://www.nscaa.com/SeniorResReg.php?it=9...;rg=Great_LakesI called it!Cincinnati is a respectable program, but High Point shouldn't give us any problems.Bring them on!
  23. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/ncaa/scoreboard?cc=5901http://soccernet.espn.go.com/ncaa/ranking?cc=5901The Zips were ranked in a tie for #3 in the NSCAA rankings (the one most considered for tournament seeding) and all teams ranked ahead either lost or tied. If a good result can be achieved against Tulsa, UA will have the #1 spot when the next poll comes out.Where is the emoticon for National Champs?...Have a feeling the MAC Champs sign just won't be enough this year!
  24. Back in my hometown near Ashtabula, OH(almost Pennsylvania) there are tons or Akron blankets being sold at the local Wall Marts and one of the hardware stores. It's spreading, my friends. Buckeye country is officially being invaded. What is Buckeye Country?
