  1. Zips football, basketball, and soccer fan and alum x 2 from Pittsburgh, PA.
  2. We are in on the Big 10 beating party. The men's soccer is 2-0-2 against the Big Ten this year and just beat OSWho last night. It's about time the football team gets in on the action though.
  3. We got scored on three times? ...Another quality win though!
  4. It should be a good game. We're looking forward to welcoming you Zip fans to Richmond. Unfortunately the game is scheduled during Winter Break so I'm betting the atmosphere will not be as big as it usually is. VCU is also a very young team but we still have Eric Maynor who is our leader as the lone senior on the squad and preseason POY for our conference. By all accounts we should have Maynor and four sophomores starting, so we are just as inexperienced as the Zips in some ways. That said, it's really not that easy to win in the Siegel Center. I think we've won 84% of our games there since we opened the place several years ago. It certainly looks like you guys brought in some good talent this year though and I'm sure Coach Dambrot will bring a well-coached team into Richmond. We hope you guys will enjoy your stay in Richmond (although I hope without a win!) This is what it's all about right here...good competition and classy sportsmanship. I welcome this kind of opposition fan on the board any day. Why can't some of our rivals' fans have this attitude?
  5. All this good news and I'm still a little disappointed the result wasn't a shutout. What can I say, as a national power, we should have high standards. Great win and let's keep it rolling!
  6. Let's beat them down in soccer and be done with the OSWho debate for another year.
  7. As good as our program is, I'm fearful of the irony in playing Louisville in the Tournament.
  8. Hartwick and Penn State are traditionally strong programs. Both have won National Championships, but are having down years. Those games should be two more wins and two more shut outs.OSU is not currently ranked, but is a tough game. I hate to say it, but let's not forget that OSU was in the National Championship game last year. That game scares me. I think in the past decade we are 0-3 playing at OSU.
  9. ...from the NSCAA rankings page: "The NSCAA rankings are an indicator of week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for championship selection."We know all too well the truth behind that statement.http://www.nscaa.com/cr.php
  10. Seriously!...I was thinking the same thing...what a home field advantage. I think it's great that UA is becoming a haven for soccer hooligans and that some of the legacies (kind word for older UA fans) are attending the games and getting interested in the sport. I also like that although the Rowdies are crazy, they aren't out of control and don't detract from an otherwise family environment. There are a TON of potential family fans out there whose kids play and should come to appreciate the game at one of its highest levels. Here's to a hill and fans behind BOTH goals,
  11. It's not that we got out played, it's that we sat on the lead and didn't push forward in numbers. Yes, Michigan had a penalty kick that shouldn't have been awarded and a couple more corners, but no other huge scoring opportunities. Keep in mind too that Steve Zakuani hit the post off a long dribble from midfield where he beat two or three other players with 15 minutes left in the game. There was a similar situation with about 5 minutes remaining where Steve crossed the ball instead of shooting to a wide open Tutich in front of a wide open goal at the corner of the six yard box and Tutich just couldn't get it out of his cleats. I think it was a bit out of his reach. The score easily could have been 3-0.Nonetheless, a great night for soccer, a quality win for the Zips, and yet another shut out. Great effort from Bush on the PK save! Well worth the trip from Pittsburgh even though I missed the goal and most of the first half.
  12. Not true. The most highly regarded one and the one most similar to the NCAA selection committee is the NSCAA/Adidas Poll where we are #5. UM is #21 and OSU has been ranked on and off throughout the year. The game against OSU on the road will be a battle and would be a quality win.
  13. Michigan is coming off a 1-0 victory AT Indiana too.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...caa&cc=5901
  14. Big game against UM tonight and I'm coming in from out of town to be there! UA is 3-3 all-time against UM with all wins coming for the home team. One of my best memories is circa 2004/2005 when Kirk Harwat was near midfield and beat an out of position keeper over the top. That was some great scouting by Lolla!I'm also looking forward to walking around campus and seeing the progress of the Info and the outdoor living room. After the fall season is over, is it true that construction will begin on a new / greatly upgraded soccer facility?
  15. Now that would be fun, but I think the Wolverines have zero chance of being Bowl eligible this year (it will break a 33 year streak, longest in the country). They are 2-5, have Michigan State this weekend (who just dropped out of the rankings), then Purdue and three ranked teams (Minnesota, Northwestern and OSU). In other years that might have looked doable. I do not think so this year.So who would everyone else like to play? I also think a rematch against UC and another BCS victory would be a nice way to close out the season.
  16. Wiscy is a much better team than the bottom 10 of D-1A....and at least we've won our games against the other members of the list....and we still should have had the UC and BGSU games. We beat ourselves. You're right though, !
  17. WHAT?!!! You are crazy! Root for your team/school first and then concern your self with what the rest of the conference does. Seeing as we're 4-4 (2-2) now, we root for 4 wins to close out the season, a MACC win, and a bowl win...nothing less. The success of our own programs trumps overall conference progress. Can you imagine other fans doing what you propose if the roles were reversed (Akron - BSU)? I can't!If we win championships every year, the Big East will come calling and then, the status of the MAC is irrelevent. That should be (and likely is) an extended goal of the University and its Athletics Department. That being said, I'd love to play and beat the University of Michigan in the Motor City Bowl.
  18. When the Zips are on TV, I turn the volume off, and the radio broadcast on. Frenchie is the biggest homer ever and I love it! It always seems like the officials are members of the other school's alumni or fans and out to get UA. It's a nice outlet, especially when our team is having a meltdown in trying to close out a game. Thankfully, the soccer team doesn't have that problem.
  19. where bouts in Pittsburgh? We could have some common ground here.Indeed. I live in Shadyside and am a student at Carnegie Mellon. Private message me if you don't mind. It would be great to host a Zips watching event here in Pittsburgh.
  20. I would much rather see Southern Illinois added than CSU and having NIU dropped.SIU is a strong academic and research institution with a distinguished men's basketball squad. They already have a D-IAA football program, which is respectable. SIU fits much better into the profile and geographic profile of what the MAC needs.I'd also like to see Temple added is a full member for all sports and not just an affiliate member for football. I think that should have been a stipulation for their joining.
  21. Keep in mind the UC fans were saying the same thing and they didn't even end up beating us. We beat ourselves in that contest.
