  1. And I am sure it was uphill to and from the game as well.
  2. I am absolutely appalled. What prestige and dignity do these awards and the tournament have if they are so biased?
  3. Hope he wins the Herman Trophy on Friday!Good luck to you, Steve. Do UA proud!
  4. Utah played a lights out game. I was loving it. I agree, Utah beat a top 5 team worse than Florida did and Florida is in the NC game. And Utah is undefeated. Florida has a loss.Agree with BigZip and johnnyzip that the Big East is not worthy of an automatic BCS game. Their basketball prowess is carrying the conference.
  5. I gave up a few years ago. I could care less if people call it "Akron U." Hell...Dambrot does it every so often in post game interviews. Life is too short to get all riled up over "Akron U" vs. "The University of Akron." Your precious time on this earth should be spent hating K.e.n.t. State, and occasionally, Ohio State. And the 3-3-5..................and Peter King, the NCAA, Bubba Walther...........and Northwestern and NIT selection committees.
  6. It's unbelievable how sick I get of seeing professional publications use "Akron University"! You never hear/see "Cincinnatti University" or "Toledo University"!From the local old timers, okay, I get it...No excuse for professional publications though.
  7. really? Interesting. What is it that you would say makes UA's dept. better?(I always thought those rankings were BS anyways)UA actually cares about its students. Pitt does not care about its students, but rather research dollars and posturing in the rankings. What a joke. As UA increases its research profile, I hope it maintains the student emphasis. I would be ashamed if it ever became like Pitt.
  8. BS Chemical Engineering '03MS Biomedical Engineering '05 both from UAPhD Biomedical Engineering '10 from Carnegie MellonI did all my PhD coursework at Pitt and can say that UA's engineering is far better in preparing quality engineers although Pitt supposedly has a top 15 program (not in my opinion).
  9. OSU and NW are in the same conference. OSU was pissed that they had to play here, and wait an extra day because of the weather (almost identical scenario to the WVU game a few years ago). OSU lobbied the Big Ten to do whatever they could to punish us for having the insolence to beat them at a high school field. Big Ten whispers into somebody's ear at the NCAA, who then changes the game site prematurely while conveniently taking off a few days for Thanksgiving. Sound far-fetched? Some people have the idea that this is what happened. I don't think that was it at all.I say this was an inside job by a guy with a grudge or an OSU fan that just happens to work in UA athletics. We were sold out on the trip to OSU at the end of the season. Somebody warned them that we were bringing busloads of fans, because that somebody severely dislikes either the fact that we have better fan support or dislikes somebody who is in charge of creating fan support. Well, we won despite that. Then it happens again - UA plays OSU, this time at home, and we make them look bad on the field and in the stands. This somebody is even angrier, and decides to screw over Akron, so he makes a call. Then the NCAA is more than happy to move the game to Chicago under the pretense of "player safety".Whoever it was that works at UA and decided that our field would be unplayable four days in advance, without consulting Mack Rhoades or Caleb Porter who were both conveniently located off campus at SVSM at the time, needs to be fired.I fully endorse this theory. What a sham and what a shame! While I'm saddened by the outcome, at least the rest of the team, Coach Porter, and the program will live to fight another day. The ones I truly feel for are the seniors who have to end stellar careers on such a low and unjust note. Here's to good luck with the MLS for Bush and Tutich!
  10. Considering we lost, the article just sounds like sour grapes. Had it been written before the game and rallied more support then I'd give the some credit. Well written, but too little too late. What I want to know is how Mack and Dr. Proenza are going to guarantee the fans, alumni, and especially the team and Coach Porter that this will never happen again. I'd hate to see Coach Porter become the next Ken Lolla.
  11. skip-zip, I understand the context of your post, but disagree with how optimistically you compare our program. UA football success should be relative to current MAC champions and rising programs (UB). Not the falling ones (BGSU and Miami). You must be a Browns fan too.Nothing personal.
  12. Unfortunately, that program is UB.
  13. If there is any question as to why we need out of the MAC, it has been fully established now...the only team not to go to a bowl game a couple years ago, the NIT snub, and then the #9 seed a couple years ago, but this was atrocious! The irony of today's weather kills me. Given these biases and especially the latter, I no longer expect Steve to win the Herman Trophy even though he's earned it.NU executed as they had to...got their goal and then sat back and just played D.What I take from today's outcome:1) We'll be lucky to keep Coach Porter given our inferior treatment from the NCAA. I wouldn't blame him for leaving like Lolla did.2) The soccer facility upgrade needs to happen this off-season.3) We need out of the MAC. I just can't say that enough.
  14. Is said video stream free though? As much as I want to watch the game, I don't think I'll be giving my money to Northwestern.
  15. Weren't three of those wins in the last three years of LO against I-AA teams (Howard, Cal Poly and Liberty)? I'm sure that if that was the case and we filled those I-AA spots with I-A teams, the record would look more like 25-34. I fail to see how that is better than 27-32. Don't forget the wins against BCS teams and the MAC Championship either.I'm not being overly defensive of JD because if he got fired tomorrow I would not lose a minute of sleep over it, but this team is better now than it was under the LO era. After 9 years at Akron, LO could only muster 5 wins against I-A teams his last year.Lee inherited a disaster of a program and had the worst facilities and administrative support in the nation to deal with. JD inherited a team with 4 future NFL players, coming off a winning record, one of the top graduation rates in the NCAA, and one of the top brand new practice facilities in the nation. STARTING OFF with that, he can barely muster 5 wins in his fifth season, in what has become the worst division in college football (the 2003 MAC had 3 ranked teams throughout the year and was knocking off ranked teams left and right). The comparison doesn't look too hot for your man JD.You are dodging the point. JD would have a better record vs. LO if LO didn't play three cream puffs. It's OK to say your comparison isn't quite honest if you look closely. So JD is two or three games better than LO over the course of five years. Big deal!!! The results are still not good enough as I have described in several other posts. The facilities and administrative support differences are also notable.
  16. The coaches at BSU, CSU, and UB weren't high profile before obtaining their current positions and yet, have built strong programs. I want a coach like them. Keep in mind, none of those coaches have the facility resources JD has had to entice recruits either.
  17. Well-coached teams are disciplined, adapt and improve from mistakes, and win close games. Even though we won the Can't and EMU games, we were either handed or lucked into those outcomes. They weren't actually won. We lost four other games that were undecided in the last half of the fourth quarter (UC, BGSU, UB, and Temple). That has made the difference between a subpar season and one that could have been a top three all-time for this program. What's worse is that with three games left, a game removed from a nearly three week break, and a potentially great season for the taking with the division leader and two weak teams ahead, our team played its worst football of the season and appeared unmotivated at times. Unacceptable. Please spare me the "we outperformed expectations (by the media in preseason)"! This team had the talent to win those four games. Coaching was the difference. Period. If this program is ever to be taken seriously, it has to start next year with a fresh face. With some of the best facilities in the country, there are no longer any excuses for mediocrity. From season to season, this program should be 7-5 to 10-2. 5-7 or 6-6 are even OCCASIONALLY acceptable, but shouldn't be the norm.Head coaches make very good money (even relative to other professionals) to produce wins and represent their university well. JD (and his players) represent the university well, but the wins (or corresponding progress) isn't their to justify continuation in the most important season (prospectively and retrospectively) this program has and will likely ever have. However, I would sympathise with some of the assistant coaches who don't make nearly as much and for better or worse has their success tied to the head coach and performance of the entire team. Unfortunately though, that's the nature of their profession. For now, go support the soccer, basketball, rifle, and track/field/CC programs as those are well-deserving of our support.
  18. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/35027229.htmlI'm really glad KD is building our program in the right way. There needs to be a new emoticon with a golden flush behind bars.
  19. I'll give you that, skip-zip. For the record, I'm not a JD hater. Just disgusted with where some of the coaching decisions have put us when IMO we have much better talent than the results demonstrate.Still, 1-4 in games that come down to the last half of the fourth quarter or OT is unnacceptable. The Can't and EMU games are not considered here considered because as I said before, we didn't win those games. As the rest of the MAC knows such situations, we Akron'd them. That is, the ball bounced our way and we won when circumstances could have very easily dictated otherwise.Everything else being equal, we should roughly be 0.500 in such games...meaning 2-3 or 3-2 is reasonably acceptable in my book. Apply that to our overall record and consider where we'd be. I would be very satisfied to be sitting at 6-5 or 7-4 right now. The OU game was a must have as were either the BGSU or UB games.apologists are what i hear....i've based my decision not on one game, but the last two seasons....stupid mistakes, underachieving....hey, if you guys wanna support medicore football have at it...(Still, 1-4 in games that come down to the last half of the fourth quarter or OT is unnacceptable)...rack that statementgood coaches and good teams beat ball st, cincy & BG AT HOMEI am not apologizing for anyone, I think I've made it quite clear that I am not satisfied with the results or the coaching. Period.(good coaches and good teams beat ball st, cincy & BG AT HOME)...rack that statement too. Well coached teams defend their home field. It's referred to as home field advantage, not home field disadvantage.
  20. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...;ATCLID=3621896The first thing I though of after seeing this article...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YABRmdyuMk(If anyone knows how to embed this, please do so.)Gotta love Austin Powers!
  21. "Practice? We're talking about practice!?" -Allen Iverson"A bowl game? We're talking about a bowl game!?" -trimmy10The result of the OU game officially concluded football season. Thankfully the last game in the Rubber Bowl was meaningful. Imagine if we had Temple at home to close it out this Friday. Scary. Go support the soccer team. They are national title contenders and play a very respectable (yet nameless) big time school/program in a rivalry that we dominate with a home game in the NCAA Tournament. Excitement at any D-I school doesn't get any bigger than that.
  22. I'll give you that, skip-zip. For the record, I'm not a JD hater. 23. I would not count the Can't game a close win for us this year. That game was handed to us. The EMU game was pure luck. I am yet to see a close game win where we take command of the game and take the win as opposed to having it given to us or lucking into it. The opportunity to do so existed in four other games and in all four, we've found ways to lose. There is no way we go bowling at 6-6 and IMO, we don't deserve to.
  24. But the rest of the campus is a while ours is gorgeous. I'd personally rather have a nice campus than just a nice arena. Good showing by the Zips.
  25. They can't spell Special Teams either. Who's the Special Team's coach, fire Him! (I know its JD so he needs to fire himself). one game we're talking about how great the special teams are (block pat for 2pt safety?) and now they have a bad game and we're calling for the coach's job. we really are pathetic fans. It's not just this one game though. It's the fact that we've had the talent to win four other games this season, but continue to make the same mistakes/errors that have prevented us from being put over the top in those contests (i.e. high snaps, in opportune penalties, dropped passes, poor game management, and an unwillingness to try something new when old tactics aren't working...3-3-5). These are all COACHING issues! Given the fact that we were close to winning all of these games proves that we have the talent to be 8-3 or 9-2.I have been a supporter of JD up until now, but I think the Temple game should be make or break for him. Even at 6-6 and bowl eligible, we will not be offered a bowl game and IMO, we don't deserve to one.Other than a couple BCS wins against losey programs, JD has nothing to hang his hat on since the MACC. Yes, we won that game, but even so, we were lucky to be in it given the tie break scenario. Let's not forget that we've had roughly one win every season that shouldn't have been (EMU this year, WMU last year, etc). Take those away and what do you have?Yes, JD has beaten Can't 4 of 5, but this program would really be in the if he hadn't. Given how poor Can't has been, beating them every year is no longer a feather in the cap, but an absolute requirement to continue as coach.
