IMO for this to happen and be worthwhile, the Info would need to be sold out for every home game. Why give people another excuse to stay home on a cold, dreary night at the end of November?I can also see another scenario like last year where the end of the UA-Can't game was cut short in the closing minutes when the game was yet to be decided to make way for OSU pregame. Just imagine an overtime conference game or a close out-of-conference game against a big opponent being cut off to make way for Archie Bunker on All in the Family. ...you want to talk about DECREASING legitimacy to a program that did and would do it, respectively.

A realistic picture of our recruiting class

According to the FIFA Laws of the Game, page 7 (for a PDF copy, http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame.html), a soccer field may be (100,130)L X (50,100)W [min, max] where units are in yards. For international matches, the field must be (110,120)L X (70,80)W.I would assume the NCAA implements similar requirements. -
UA Recruits Win at Home Depot Center
UAZipster0305 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Z.I.P., always a good read and yet another great post. I wish there were more die hard UA (or just general) futbol fans on this board. We'll have to meet up and sit in the stands together when UA is playing for the National Championship. Until then, -
Then I would seriously question the credibility of this publication.
-
I beg to differ. Navy is still very good (they'd kill any MAC school) and Air Force has been respectable of late.

A realistic picture of our recruiting class

Timmy, I agree the Zips have a great future as Z.I.P. has pointed out. UConn and South Fla are worthy rivals, altho' we should have kicked S.F.'s ass. We were the better team. When we last played UConn they were slightly ahead of us. Those fortunes have changed. All they have is a better facility and conference now. We are better. Our new facility has had architectural review and has been signed off on by the board of trustees and facilities management. It is a beautiful facility with 3,500 seats on the side our bleachers are on now, locker rooms, refs rooms, press box, an entertainment suit and birm seating behind the east goals and along the side opposite the main stands where the teams now have their benches. There is only one teeny little problem ...there is no money to build it now or in the next three years. Caleb has been told he has to do his own fund raising if he wants it built. Cost is $12 million. Caleb is trying to get it built in phases while also trying to find a major donor. First phase is to move the field to the new seting to allow for a big grandstand and lay down water, sewer, electrical and drainage under new turf. The next phase is lights and a few misc. things. The last stage is the main grandstand. This will be hard. Don't believe for a minute that the school has to build a new facility if Caleb wins big next year.Akron's debt is at a manageable, yet all time high level right now. The borad of trustees will not go in deeper to build a low revenue generating facility until after the football stadium is shown to be a success. Read that to mean 5 years. That's why we need someone with deep pockets to jump start the whole initiative. The truth of the matter is that our conference and our facility are the two greatest, and only sigificant, limiting factors to the growth of the soccer program. I hope Caleb does not get frustrated. I believe he will not. His contract extension shows he wants to build here and he has a very good relationship with Mac Rhoades. Caleb speaks highly of him often. Caleb is a big picture guy who sees where we can go. Kinda like KD, but in a sport that is higher in national prominence. He's what we need. Let's give him the people in the stands he needs this season. See you there and then afterwards for a cold one. Deal? Deal. I look forward to it. Thanks for all the information. -

Beautiful. Great post! I'm really excited to see where this program goes in the next five years. I think at some point, UA will be playing for a National Championship. I just hope the community and fan support grow with the success of the program. In the overall analysis of power programs, I'd also like to mention UConn and South Florida. They are both programs UA has met in the NCAA Tournament with limited success and that have the facilities and tradition to rival UA's.I can't wait to see more detailed renderings of the new on-campus soccer complex. Any idea when that project will kick off? -
He has shown signs of being a great punter. Do you remember how he put on an All-American type performance against OSU? He has the talent. The coaches are the ones making him do the stupid rugby punt thing. If our punt-coverage has improved, Stec will be allowed to make more of the regular punts that he is capable of.And that "stupid rugby punt thing" worked fabulous a few times when it was used as a fake on 4th down, not that I'm advocating that they should do that all the time.I agree. Do it intermittently for the sake of maintaining the fake element, but not all the time. It's not necessary to do it at the start of an away game on 4th and 26 from inside our own 20. That's not fooling anyone. Make the big punt and play the field position game. But, I guess this gets back to the issue of a lack of creative play calling. Why do I feel like the conversations on this board go in one big vicious circle?

Sorry, its real paint on wood. But a C-USA logo could be painted on top of it easily!I think this has been discussed about a hundred times or more on this board, but I think the general opinion is that the only worthwhile conference for UA to join would be the Big East. CUSA is more of a lateral move with much higher travel costs for away events.

So does anyone think renaming the street is a good idea?
-
Actually, the living room is going to be between the student union and the soccer field where Carrol Street used to run through. I think Vine Street is staying right where it is.I'd love to see all roads leading into campus renamed with something related to a prestigious aspect of the university.
-
First, in keeping with the theme of incorporating tradition into the new stadium, does anyone else think that Vine Street (the street that runs east-west between the stadium and field house) should be renamed to honor and accent a traditional aspect of the football program? I was thinking something along the lines of Heisman Avenue.Second, why does the Heisman biography on the official website not mention Akron or Buchtel College as a school in which he coached? A motivated ZipsNation member should email the organization and suggest the amendment.http://www.heisman.com/history/john-heisman.html

Unfortunately, the NE Ohio area is equally populated by Can't grads who are by definition stupid... Not everyone is worthy of being a UA alum. I can't say enough that

More specifically, the Auburn renovation is primarily for the biology department, not engineering. The biology department is going to move into the space that is now parking and biomedical engineering will be moving into a renovated version of the old biology department space. -

What you mention is for the 2008 recruiting class. I find it to be an under-rating; however, if you scroll down, you'll find that UA is #34 for the 2009 class with the commitment from Zeke. -

When Will the 2008-09 Schedule Be Out?
UAZipster0305 replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So what if these two games against the high major are almost guaranteed losses? Our aspirations are to play in the NCAA Tournament and unless we win the National Championship (no, I'm not suggesting we will), our last loss of every season should be against a high major level team. We might as well be prepared as best as possible for that kind of game, so we can potentially pull a few upsets along the way. It will make league play seem easier too.Scheduling a big name school at home would be great for building community support as well. No one wants to show up for a game around the holidays against Niagra (as our previous attendance records demonstrate), but schedule UNC and the place will likely be sold out. -

Bush is one of the best goalies this program has ever seen. He's very solid. Don't knock him. -

I hate to bring up OSWho, but John Cooper was a great recruiter, but couldn't coach well. Tressel seems to be good at both. There is a balance between coaching and recruiting that results in wins on the field and maximizes a program's potential. So while its great to have all these prospects, I'd like to see it translate into success on the field. Although the team was relatively young this past year, the talent was there and we lost an NCAA tournament game to USF at home after being seeded. That's not the best way to earn respect at the national level. Given the recruiting classes and the tradition of the program, I expect more in upcoming seasons. -

http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/18859579.htmlThis couldn't have come soon enough! He'll make more than enough money in increased revenue with the new location and the opening of the stadium than he supposedly lost in the imminent domain proceedings. Hopefully, he'll then reconsider his bequest from UA to Can't.
