We weren't in the discussions for these games. I'll have to trust that those involved got us the best deal they could at the time. Are the money games worth it? Yes. If we never played a big time school, we would never be able to celebrate the upset. But the trips to OSU and PSU type schools must be moderated with a lower rung BCS school at home. No more six game stretches to start the season with five away games. Presently the football team is in need of the big paydays to help cover costs. Winning and the new stadium are the two best friends the team has. K ent was downtrodden for so long they were an easy selection by Minnesota and BC when they needed to fill a spot. They wouldn't choose a team on it's way up, they would choose a perennial loser. Now k ent is playing better and may have a hard time getting these big home games. Thanks CK!

It would be easier to read your posts if you would use the quote feature.

Probably accurate. Let's hope they overachieve and become average.
-
Same here. I think they gave infocision the list of season ticket holders.

I feel your pain but 45 yard field goals are not almost automatic even for the pros. I would say a better distance with good confidence would be 35 yards out.

K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
UADavid replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Why can't you understand that this is a Zips board and most of us don't care what ysu does? Deep talk this info on your forum and spare us the ysu this and ysu that threads. If you want to comment on the zips, try to keep focused on the zips. I'd be hard pressed to find one post where you don't lose your focus and start talking about ysu. Please stop. -
K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
UADavid replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
BC is no longer a Big East team. They left with VaTech and Miami but may have stayed one extra year because of shedules and lawsuits. They are part of the ACC Atlantic. But a huge game for any MAC school to play at home. With the Minnesota game last year, the home team has had some big time opponents. -
Access to the players was very good and I enjoyed seeing all the artist renderings of the stadium, but the rest of the event was not. To start, no signs telling people where to go (doors from the rec center were locked). The temperature inside the fieldhouse must have been 90+ at the begining. The dinner was poorly planned with most fans having nothing to drink or place to sit. What happened to the raffle? There was no speech from the coaching staff or team introductions. The players were very accommodating with pictures and autographs, but I respectfully disagree with your assessment of this event. In my opinion it couldn't have gone much worse or been more poorly planned.

The home team seating assignments are a good way to get people to the game.

Thank you Akron SID for getting the broadcast team information on Kiki so they would mention him and the Zips. Oops, my bad. They didn't bother to mention him. There was one quick mention of Akron while talking about CF and the other Qb's.Maybe it was a snub by Kosar and Donovan, but the track record at Akron would suggest otherwise.

What was expected was lousy seats for OSU, what wasn't expected was the lousy seats for our 'home' game against Army. Akron received sections 129-131 for season ticket holders and the dawg pound for GA tickets. That's shameful. Thanks MAC for the great seats and home game!

The "don" is a d_ _ _ and really crapped on the football stadium. Six events and maybe a couple concerts. Not an economic engine. It's simply not downtown and that has his panties in a bunch. If you are so hot for a downtown arena, build it yourself. Take a midol and go away!

I also liked Hakes. Without the facts, it's hard to comment but he should want to earn the starting job.

JD left me frustrated last year with the poor special teams play and play calling. He has addressed both of these problems by handing over the play calling and taking over the special teams himself. I believe a good coach is one who can see weakness and make changes. He didn't adjust during the season but he has changed things now, hopefully for the better. Time will tell if these moves help the team, but I am behind JD till he proves he's not the man we need. This is the last year for LO players and from now on we will see if JD's recruiting classes will make the difference. I think we have beter athletes and more depth now than we did, but LO found many local marginal looking players who became very good Zips players. I think Jd will now have the time to evaluate play and make changes during the game since he has given up the offensive coordinator duties. I look forward to a more polished and disciplined team taking the field this fall. No more stupid fouls by crouch and alleman to move us out of the red zone.

Special teams is JD's baby this year and the spring game left me underwhelmed. If they really plan to use the roll out punt, we will be losing field position with every kick. You have a kicker moving right or left, depending on the kicking leg, which interferes with proper set up and contact. It looks more like a qb kick. Instead of 1 deep back, they have three with the kicker rolling and kicking. That is poor fundamentals for a punter. The snap is enough worry for the punters. I could envision a whiff trying to punt this way. The biggest problem I see with the kicking is the inability to block at the line of scrimmage. There was too much penetration during the scrimmage. Coverage last year was also a big problem.

You are an idiot. Leave and no one will bother you. You post ad nauseam about the little school to the east of can't that no one on the Zips board wants to hear about. Post to your heavily viewed site and spare us the drama. Stop being such an eguin! pest (pest), n 1. a troublesome person 2. eguin

Article from the toledo paper. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS02/703310439

Agreed. I saw this last night on the ESPN crawl at the bottom of the screen. It was on all their channels but still not a big story nationally.
-
I believe he is. Hopefully he's still enrolled and taking classes. Definitely a talented player who's in desperate need of a time out.
-
Thankfully most here didn't see him and his outbursts at the Ohio game. He was vocally negative toward the offense, quarterback and team. He was crying to family in the stands about anything and everything. Very sad to see. Family did the same.

You seem to have a problem with most ideas people post. Why not keep the concerns you have to yourself and just use the ideas you like. It isn't necessary for you to respond to every post. You would probably shoot down the next idea anyway. The restrictions you impose appear impossible to overcome, so go with the largest most loyal group. I liked the high step high energy the marching band was.

Could'nt stop laughing at your post. I had visions of Michael Jackson. With respect to your comments, no professional gets in a pillow fight with a customer or student in this case. Truly a classless act on the part of the mac official.

I'd be pleased to see the timekeeper fired.

Why would anyone in cali or texas give a damn about the Zips when the local paper won't give them the time of day. The last couple of nights have had good articles on the team, but the bj has been absent for most of the season. Same with the cleveland tv and radio stations. Listen to wknr and you'd be hard pressed to find any sport talker mentioning the zips during the season. And the gary waters feature on ch. 3 made me sick. Screw him! Asked when they could see cleveland st. in the ncaa's, he said they would see great improvement in year two, then said second or third year. He also implied it was our own fault because the schedule was so weak. We can't play 20 road games a year. Special thanks go out to espn for giving us Austin Peay, so the win could raise our sos and rpi. Well done, that bracket buster was really helpful. Thanks go out to the nit for the final insult and snub. To the members of The University of Akron basketball team, thanks for the record setting year.

To bad the University stopped all repairs at the Rubber Bowl years ago. These next two years will be challenging. That must be the reason for such few home games.
