Sounds like a bunch of excuses that can't be supported by the facts.

That may be your funniest post to date. Keep on shooting, you might hit something.

Anyone have a clue? Johnson averaged 27.2 attempts per game in his run offense and Charlie averaged 29.0 in his first two years and 33.3 his last two. Those pesky facts always getting in the way.................................... 2003 was Charlie's junior year when he padded his stats. Bobby Hendry 231 attempts 981 yards 1988 was Mike Johnsons junior yearDoug Lewis 119 attempts 609 yards 1988Doug Lewis 171 attempts 763 yards 1989Hendry was the main running back throughout most of Charlie's UA carreer and is ranked 5th all time behind the 4th all time Brandon Payne who also played 2 years during Charlie's time at UA.I am also a fan of the Zips and have been for some time. My recollection of the games appears to be different from yours. Just adding some insight for others and, in my opinion, setting the record straight.

I agree, weather will be a big factor. There will be a big push by the athletic department to get it done. The team could help by not playing so badly.

Let's look at Mike Johnson, a nice qb for Akron. 22 games 598 attempts 281 complete 26 int. 20 td's 3989 yards .470 pct. 181.3 ypg23 games 669 attempts 420 complete 15 int. 24 td's 4877 yards .628 pct. 212.0 ypgthese were Charlies first two years. To be fair, we need to look at Charlies last two years since Mike played his junior and senior year after transferring.23 games 767 attempts 493 complete 17 int. 40 td's 6172 yards .643 pct. 268.3 ypg What exactly is your point? You're so results oriented. These are their respective stats at the qb position. Your statements are absurd. Mike was a good qb, Charlie has been our best qb to date by a country mile.

That's right, he did it all himself. You are deluding yourself and I think it's really quite funny. How long did it take you to come up with the two girls crack? Truly one for the ages. Well done! Thank you!

CK also included a lot of reasons why our offense hasn't produced and I do agree with that part of his analysis. I would still advocate playing Luke, but the guys behind him need playing time that Luke hasn't earned. Again, how much of this years inability is a result of losing Coach Pry?

You're preaching to the choir. I've been the most vocal person on this forum calling for more playing time for our second teamers.

How many other pearls of wisdom could we repost?

Glad to see so many on this list want to see the "junior varsity" play. There have been many opportunities to get valuable playing experience for our team and for whatever reason Brookhart has resisted. At least he's coming around as is the rest of ZipsNation. I don't know how much influence Coach Pry had on play calling or game plan, but after the first few scripted plays, the offense falls off drastically. I haven't been too impressed with JD's ability to adapt during a game. Is anyone in the coaching box giving advise? It's hard to see what the D is doing from the sidelines. I think we need someone who can call plays from the box and free JD to be the head coach. PS. Please hire a special teams coach!

Nice article. Thanks for posting it CK.

My connection says Akron vs. toledo, live from Rynearson Stadium. That's Eastern Michigan.

For arguments sake, let's assume you're right and Hakes is next years starter. You have a starting QB with zero game snaps and two backups with the same experience. Suppose Hakes gets hurt or is not the answer. If the CJ's have an opportunity to play this year, they should get it. I hope that opportunity comes in the fourth quarter with UA comfortably ahead. It makes no sense to not get one or both some playing time. I'm saying if the opportunity presents itself, not when the game is on the line. Good coaches do these things and we have lost two chances (IMO) to improve the team. This may seem trivial to some, but it's the attention to detail that makes the difference.

I didn't see what he did, but I sure saw an animated Brookhart. Cobham was trying to walk away as JD was in his face and had to stop him by grabbing his face mask. They were nose to nose. What did he do, late hit?? Several years ago I saw a PSU player late hit someone in front of Paterno. He jumped all over him and sat the bench the rest of the game. A statement needs to be relayed to this team that we won't tolerate bad behavior.
-
He's already lost valuable experience by not playing him late in the N. Texas game and our terrible effort against Can't. Spring games are not the same as opening up against tosu next year.
-
What is a tight end? I don't think we have any of those.
-
I believe we were also the last D1 team to have a home game.
-
Most coaches do play backups and give them real game experience while trying to win games. The coaches who don't try to win, if such a thing exists, are unemployed. Backups are one injury away from needing to play. We're not talking about protecting a red-shirt for either player. I don't advocate pulling Luke in favor of either CJ, but if the game is a blowout either way, we could and should get a look at selected backups and give them a taste of what they need to do. This would also keep the regulars from getting too complacent. The backups would be pushing them harder in practice to get more playing time. I would certainly feel better if Ohio St. is not either QB's first snap.

I heard they have running water!
-
It was fun to see these guys again. They look good. Bardo needs work to keep up with the up tempo game we will play this year. Expect them to run, run, run. We have some new players that should be able to contribute right away.
-
Agreed!

The bye week couldn't have come at a better time. The players and coaching staff need some time to reflect and assess the poor start and turn the page. No need to look back, we have 6 games to go. I expect a lot of improvement in all aspects of the game. It's what we deserve and what the team has worked for this year. We can get on a roll and possibly win out, but this team needs to do it. It sure would soften the disappointment of the first half. Go zips.

So you Want Akron to have true Fan support
UADavid replied to Mr.McChickenTrousers's topic in Akron Zips Football
All the mistakes I think point to poor conditioning and coaching. Strength is great but where is the conditioning? Where is the agility? How many penalties have stalled drives this year? It's okay to lose games to teams that beat you, but we manage to give them away. We need to play more of the young guys to see where they are for next year. It won't hurt to give the first teamers a break also. Let's see some Jackson out there running the option. We need some running room and that might help. JD took some responsibility for the play calling being weak. I think the plays should be called from the press box where you get a better look at what the defense is doing. Let's shake things up. If something doesn't work, move on. ie. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down at cincy in the first quarter. Where are the te's? Let's run the play cincy runs to the te. We can't stop that pass across the field. How about some halftime adjustments that actually work. We still have half the season to improve and that's what I would like to see from this underperforming team.
