  1. When it finally closes next year? I thought it closed years ago. ??
  2. Okay, okay. Anyone with even a MAC education can now tell implicitly that GP1's famous antipathy toward the university in Portage County is nothing more than reverse psychology, intended to throw people off the track of the fact that he gained much of his skill set at that very institution. Let's not tell him we got him pegged! Toke stone, indeed.
  3. Note to Legend: Congratulations! You have just provided your audience with the definition of "frontrunner". Your audience salutes you. Oh, and BTW -- does anyone realize this is the Zips BASKETBALL forum??
  4. Hey! The Diamond Head Classic has updated their website no the dawn of another basketball season. http://espnevents.com/diamond-head-classic/teams/ And the good news is, if you look at the roster, Zeke (and Rico and Brian W.) will be BACK for 2013-14! Guess the perogies didn't go down well! Well, I can assure Zeke he won't find any on this island! lol
  5. If that's what the media guide says, I guess I have to accept it, BUT -- my memory tells me we defeated them the year they won the national championship -- I think the year was 1979. Can anyone find that score? I recall Edwardsville started the year slow, losing two or three games by late Sept., including one at Lee Jackson. Then the week after the game @Akron, their coach suffered a heart attack. They did not lose another game that year. I also remember us playing and losing to Howard in Akron the year THEY won the national title -- possibly 1977. Ahhhhhh, memories..... Edit: I found this on the SIU-E athletics wiki: National Soccer Hall of Fame coach Bob Guelker came to SIUE in 1966 to start the men's soccer program. He had previously also begun the program at St. Louis University, where his teams won 5 NCAA titles, including the very first in 1959. As coach of the Cougars, he lead them for 19 seasons, compiling a record of 216–67–21 and winning the very first Division II title in 1972 and the Division I championship in 1979 in their 14 NCAA tournament appearances. So, did we beat them their title year? And the answer is: Ah, shucks. they beat us 2-0 that season, and finished with a 20-game unbeaten streak.I sure coulda swore we put it to 'em. Damn Cougars! Let's get em back on the sked coach.
  6. Come on man! I can't believe you're not giving us your true feelings: The refs killed us!!!
  7. Mythbusters? Will James Randy be participating in this? Skeptical Enquirers want to know.
  8. Okay, agreed. But we need to increase the strength of whom we call a "rival". Why should we want a rivalry with a team we nearly always have beaten? For a multitude of reasons, going back to Jerry Yeagley's (I hate even writing that guys name!) rookie seeason in (?) 1974, and coming up to the current almost impossible-to-believe rookie championship run of Yeags Jr. I have to tag the Hoo(-the-Heck-are-they-)ssiers of Indiana as our biggest rivals. How the Hell come we don't play them in the regular season this year, anyhow?? Go Zips. I'm backing our team, no matter who is in charge.
  9. I like the fighting spirit the guys show -- no way are they close to being satisfied with things.
  10. It's a bit saddening to read that people right here on our own ZN BB are losing faith with the program -- especially this short into the span of a new leader. For Pete's sake, there are only about a half-dozen teams in the nation with more wins than Akron. Don't give up on our team now!
  11. EXCUSE ME! But we are talking Akron football here -- as in Association Football! And in football, Akron is the top-25, or top-10, or NOT the OSUckeyes!
  12. That's a two-handed, in-your-face, insider trivia slam dunk from ZW! When, oh when will we see our much-beloved mascot again?
  13. Same score as our game, but we had a truckload more shots. Did someone say we need a finisher? Hope Reinaldo stays healthy!
  14. Hey -- I hear what you're saying brother! The problem is we're so (over)loaded at the wings, especially the three spot. Do you not believe that BJ is very capable of competing with Nick and Q.? If the two seniors (well, I suppose Harney is a fourth-year Jr, but anyway...) are head and shoulders above Gladden, then either they have improved markedly, or Gladden isn't what we have been promised. Jus' sayin'.
  15. Where's the transcript?
  16. Now GZ, is THAT what your sources behind the bench are telling you? I agree the depth is scary -- WITH three or four new faces. But put them in street clothes, and the whole world changes. We need their help NOW!
  17. Some one needs to see a DR. Someone has an infection of the finger -- and possibly eyeball, if they think we were screwed by da refs -- every loss since 1963 vs Western Reserve.
  18. So what you are saying is, the only thing that matters is $$$$? That kind of sounds like the Tosu alma mater!
  19. Ahhhhh. Nevah mind!
  20. Whatever happened to Bob Huggins, anyway? Has he seen my friend Coleman lately?
  21. Mahalo lobo! Where are all our usual posters. I want details!!!
  22. I think what is posing as discussion here is best referred to psychologically as self-hatred, left over from the days of Akron U's losses in the first round of NCAA College Division games in the mid 70s. LeBron has stated publicly that, had he played college basketball, he would have spent his year in the JAR, with his coach, Keith Dambrot. Either that, or you're right -- having the most famous athlete in the nation playing in your gym and promoting your team is irrelevent.
  23. Anyone know why Hirschman didn't play today? (heard something about him injuring himself on a TD celebration. ) We sure could have used him with the other guy throwing the ball out of bounds so much. As far as the end goes, I don't know what the clock rule is -- were they supposed to add time after the replay? The announcers sounded surprised that they didn't give more time to Akron.
  24. Mostly people in Youngstown, I understand.
  25. Whoa. That does NOT look good. We better get a win to cheer up fknbuflobo.
