In press releases like that, they (NDU in this case) nearly always place their own school first in order, so the '3' is for the Irish. I think the UA uses the same format. University specific, not sport specific. Though I still always shake my head when college broadcasts on TV show the road team first on their scoreboard. PAC-12 and B1G nets both do that! US Broadcasters of pro footie have learned the "proper" method, but for college ball it still tends to be backwards.

And that does it folks! Akron wins a big one 2-0 at home over ...what? No. 7 Notre Dame? In any case, this team of Roos belongs in the top 10. Two MAC teams in the top 10! Don't think THAT has ever happened!
-
Late penalty given to Notre Dame with 2:22 showing on clock. Holthusen pushed in the back just inside the box. Gainford takes the kick...stopped by GK, but Hinds is right on the spot to put the rebound away. 2-0, just what I was looking for!
-
And with that, a blast by Holthusen after a fine deek on the left side of the ND box just misses the far post. And right after that Stuart gets a breakaway, and is taken down by the Irish goalkeeper. No call! Guess he (the keeper) got a hand on the ball.
-
I don't like how we have lost our edge offensively in this second half. Notre Dame not possessing the ball much, but Akron not being very aggressive offensively. Let's not play for a one-goal win!
-
Notre Dame looking a better team at placing defensive pressure in the second half, but no real scoring chances while I've been watching. Still 1-0, down to 22 minutes remaining.
-
And just like that an Akron attacker is taken down about 5 yds from the goal line by the keeper, earning a PK. Penalty put away by Sam Gainford. 1-nil Akron Zips.
-
Played 30 mins, 0-0. Akron controlling about 65-70% of possession. I saw NDU play @Indiana, and would say we are just about as dominant, or a little more so than the Hoosers were against the Irish. Hope we can break thru before the break. As I wrote that we had a break-away opportunity, and Egbo, I think hit it early and a couple yards left of goal.

Tor Saunders has earned the starting job between the posts (again). Looks like its his to lose at this point.

" Akron owns a 3-7-3 all-time edge against Notre Dame despite not earning a result against the Irish since the 2008 season (or in Akron since the 1988 campaign)." I imagine at least several of these contests were before NDU men's soccer became a varsity sport. The Irish competed as a club team until I think the mid-1980s. Looking on ESPN3 it looks like a sparse crowd -- at least across from the camera. Hope its late-arriving.

Since I couldn't post this earlier...Was A.J. Milwee calling plays for both teams today? Looked like two incompetent offences.
-
My audio and video have a delay of several seconds. Well, I guess I'm getting the play before I have to see the WMU TD.
-
Have the announcers said what the wind is? That might be the problem with the WMU passing attack.

Thought it was just me!

Z.I.P. replied to fknbuflobo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
3-1 final when the team could have scored (a few) more. Again, they were absolutely dominant in most every element of the football game. That has been the case in all games I've watched, with the only thing that slows them down being difficulty linking up in the final 16 -- and then on the road exclusively. So, yes, as others have said, they have to get better when they play on the road if they're to go far into the post-season -- like to the College Cup, where IMHO they belong. Notre Dame will be a better test -- perhaps the best of the season so far. Look forward to that game, though I figure Akron should be favored. -

I'm trying to locate our 1979 schedule/results. Both I and Fknbuflobo claim to have been at LJF (in the bleachers alongside the Nanchoff Bros) when our side beat SIU-E the season that they won the NCAA title. Come on Zips historians. Don't make us all out as liars! In any case, at halftime, Akron leads (just) 1-0, a very lopsided contest, if not score. We've owned nearly 90% of the possession time it seems (I watched about 20-25 minutes). We have 9 shots to 3, 3 SOG to 0. Need to put a couple more away in the second half! -
Did you see the Guardian article suggesting Julie Foudy or another woman-- for diversity's sake (as if diversity, or feminism could replace democracy -- side comment ) It mentioned Eric Wynalda was preparing for a run to replace Sunil. That's a fascinating possibility, being a fan of Wynalda's. Do you think a young former player with a good head for US soccer politics could be successful?

Just curious as to how much you would have to pay to upgrade. Where I live the Spectrum (prev. TW) Cable has a sports package that includes like 20-30 stations for <$10.
-
Well, technically it was a free kick, following WMU taking a safety and hoping to hem the Zips in their own end as time ran out. It didn't work (monumentally)! Here's the replay:

"Other factors include competition for international students from schools in other countries, as well as politicians’ remarks about controlling immigration." Politicans' remarks!!! The new PC. Why use a plural? (politician's remarks would be factual) lol
-
Captain, you're getting your footballs confused. . This game is full of strategy, including psychology. But I don't think coach will tell his squad, "Go out there and get a draw!". lol
-
Game almost complete at same time as USA is laying their egg vs T&T. Zips up 2-0 with a couple minutes to play. Goals for Skye Harter, first minute and Mouafo. Game has now gone final. Only question is why is Tor Saunders in the net for us? Played 90, apparently.

Hope I can break into this sniping battle...Don't look now, but Ohhio and Miami look to be going down in MAC East comp. CMU won @Athens and BeeGee leads the RedHawkskins late 30-29. Those are the two teams of which we must beat at least one to have a serious chance at six wins and a bowl!
