  1. Damn! Where did you here the team was headed to Maui?? If so, I have to book my plane ride and hotel! That was my goal I set for the team in terms of OOC sked. Ball St. won two games there back in 2001 with Bonzi Wells. All I know about for 2017 is a visit to the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, here on the island of O'ahu... Hey -- at least you didn't write like a Kent State media release a few years ago -- "The Golden Flashes women's soccer team is set to arrive this morning on the Big Island of O'ahu" LOL!
  2. Ha ha ha! I hope they have a new one before the #DiamondheadClassic basketball tournament in Dec. Not likely that Zippy will show here, but the time she did come -- 1991 (the one inside at least) -- the words in the hotel hallway were (I've told this story so many times it rolls off my tongue!): Okay -- I got Zippy's tail, where's the head??
  3. I have higher hopes than that 5-8 wins. I give them a real shot at double figures in the 'V' column. And someone tell Noreen the Zips need a trip to Hawai'i! The one her predecessor and I talked about.
  4. FYI, they have the coach's name misspelled! It should be Bart-Luther MoUafo. Apparently he's part Cameroonian. I had to check to see if he was Samoan! lol I also see that he's a former player of ours -- AND now I see (Ta Da!) He's STILL a player and that the person I was looking at is labeled "?" #WhoDaGuy??
  5. I heard they re-branded as "Cascadia's Polytechnic University". Do they have a new President? Scar, something??
  6. If Joao Moutinho is half the player of Akron's greatest Joao -- Joao "Joe" Perreira of the late 70's-early 80's, he'll be a killer! But THAT Joao was from Toronto, NOT Lisbon.
  7. I just read the article on TDS by Will Parchman that integrates this interview. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2017/08/the-sad-unfulfilled-fates-of-the-2012-u-s-olympic-team/?utm_source=TopDrawerSoccer+Newsletter&utm_campaign=6e250818c9-TDS-8-2-17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8340315a79-6e250818c9-31214089 This has to be about the best bio I have read on a futbol coach. The thing about Caleb is, he doesn't have what you would call a magnetic personality, but he's like the boy next door who grew up and you can't help rooting for him to succeed. He's so down to earth and it's impossible not to want him to do well. I would love for Will Parchman to consider writing a book about Caleb Porter (if Caleb doesn't do an autobio)! lol
  8. That had never been done at Akron in any sport, and only one other time in the entire Mid-American Conference had a national champion happened. What was the other time in the MAC? I was under the impression ours was the first in conference history. BG's hockey title doesn't count. That was in the ECHA, or some hockey-only conference.
  9. I see a contradiction here on the part of 72Roo that stands out like a sore-armed QB: Did anyone ask how many of those transfers are incoming basketball (&/or football) players?? Hey -- jus'playin' with the Roo from C'bus, here. Nothin' to get upset about, folks!!
  10. Cupcake! Mmmmmmmmmm.
  11. Read this story back in April from President Wilson's Twitter. We are deeply fortunate to have the connection of the Oelschlager's to the U of Akron (my dad, a Firestone line-worker met the gentleman after the factory closure when he was able to bump to the HQ bldg as a janitor to get to his 45-year retirement). However, I had to raise my eyebrows to the merging of a museum of Native American artifacts into the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology. Psychology...Anthropology...? Could it be that the university cannot afford to build -- or even renovate, a building dedicated to the new museum/gallery, so the psychology museum -- a university mainstay since I was a student 35 years ago must move it's displays over to make room? Hmmmm! http://www.uakron.edu/development/news/news-detail.dot?newsId=5b904736-1e3f-40ab-bc60-df734b0ba289
  12. Here comes another blessing! Ben Roderick, 6-5 SF. Straight Outta Olentangy! http://verbalcommits.com/players/ben-roderick
  13. This will be the first meeting in the Aloha State. They met in 2014 in the Charleston Classic. https://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/gametracker/recap/NCAAB_20141120_USC@AKRON
  14. It'd be easier if we WERE playing the Bucks. But they won't play us!
  15. #LeiUp! The DHC released the tournament bracket this morning. Aloha kakahiaka to Coach Groce and his troops. They get the favorites on the first afternoon (7:30/8:00 PM EST on ESPN). http://espnevents.com/diamond-head-classic/bracket/
  16. Yeah -- sorry for the delay! The DoD funds the program at the federal program, as they're the major beneficiary or if you will "stakeholder" as I learned in planning class! It was fun, because the DoD's program manager is a Cant State alum and the top university in the field is ours! You can probably still find the thread and/or links to info on the lawsuit. I suspect it was settled out of court (naturally), but not sure if the UA PM is still around. I was partly interested in how the program came into being under Pres. Proenza as a small project on the Medina campus, and then the Defense Dept stepped in and it blew up in size.
  17. Is he really a 6-7 SG?? http://verbalcommits.com/players/cameron-brooks-harris
  18. Cam Brooks-Harris of Zanesville. Offers from Marshall and Cleveland State.
  19. Just made note of this recruiting thread. Amazing coincidence, as I have met the founder of the UA Corrosion Control Program. Was at my jobsite to film the plating and painting process for USAF C-17 cargo planes. Do hope she's still at the U. Had to file a lawsuit against the Engineering School Dean to have the program properly funded. This was discussed on the UA academic forum a couple years ago.
  20. Thanks Mom! And all blessings to the whole Chop Fam, and the Kangoeroes! Maybe he can take some grad courses in Belgian brewing!
  21. Mattocks starting for Reggae Boys vs el Tri.
  22. So, I take it the incoming players (frosh) have to be taking classes to get room & board. That must be true for others who are in summer work-outs too. That was my basic question.
  23. When ya'all are at the Hall, look for a photo of the first NFL champion, 1919 Akron Pros. See if you can find my grandfather -- Arthur Sloat in the shot. Think he was a tackle. Saw it and his name back in the 70s.
  24. I was just curious about something I've wondered for a while -- are the athletes who arrive "early", be it for Summer workouts or incoming freshmen who grad early -- able to stay in the dorms or do they have to find housing and pay rent?
  25. All I know is their program fell on hard times several years ago. Not familiar with their current G roster, but would anticipate Noah to have a shot at starting or getting signif PT. Will sure be following and rooting for him, as always. They're not on our roster, in the event w/ Maui U are they?? So good to see the team playing in HI twice this season!
