Dr.Z- so your telling me that you don't think it's significant drop-off in the level of talent at that position moving from Harvey and Lindsey to Fuqua and Williams?I'm just saying losing them really put both QB's behind the eight ball per say.

Here are the reasons that I don't really blame either QB for their lack of performance on Saturday.1. The offensive strategy is elementary and I don't really feel like the coaches called any plays to make a big play or change the game. (HB pass doesn't count thats just a trick play, not part of a scheme)2. The O-Line could not keep the heat off either one of these in-experienced QB's3. There was no run threat to keep the defense honest 4. We really miss Harvey and Lindsey, Fuqua and Williams are not talented enough to be Div. 1 starting recievers, and Harvey and Lindsey were some of the most talented in the MACAll in All:I do feel like Jacquemain performed better (he looked calmer) but he is more of a role player rather than a playmaker. There has always been alot of talk about Jackson being more mobile or a Mike Vick type but he's hasn't shown me any sign of that. He plays quick but in the few run attemots he had he really didn't produce anything. I'm pretty numb to both of them at this point and really don't look forward to watching these two start for the next few years. Hopefully Rodgers isn't all hype like these two seem to be.

Sorry Rasor but you must have been misinformed. I heard from a very reliable source on the team that Chris has earned the starting job. I think after how well Rodgers played in camp, we should move CJ to WR because we don't have enough talent to have him sitting on the bench. Another thing Ive always felt like CJ would've made a better WR and so did the other schools that offered him, seeing as Akron was the only team to offer him as a QB. I look at this as a positive so we can get both kids on the field. Now we have another kid to replace the hole left by Harvey, Lindsey, and the no show from Vince Hill.GO ZIPS!!!Can't Wait for Cleveland!!!

Either way... whoever plays we're in good shape.

Since I live down here I can shed some light on this... Hakes played in the toughest private school division. It's comparable to Division 2 ball in Ohio. So take that for what it's worth... on a side note his team had never won a state title in it's history until Hakes was there.

That's what you call "building a program", you build for the future if you know that it's not your year, I think JD knew last year wasn't going to be "their year" so they redshirted some players and let them get even better before putting them out there. That's how you get your program to grow and become stronger is by recruiting talent and then developing it before throwing them into the fire.Just my opinion, or at least that would be my strategy.

Rutherford, if memory serves me right was a pretty prolific passer with the target of Larry Fitzgerald to throw at... I might be wrong but that's besides the point. I think I agree with you that it's a two man race between Jackson and Hakes right now. But if you base it solely on who's throwing into worse coverage (i don't want any of my QB's throwing into coverage) you're picking the better of two evils. They are both making the same mistake, although one might be worse. JD has called Hakes a "wild card" probably because he will get you TD's and make things happen, but he also has the occasional errant mistake. I'll take a 1td 1int outing from a true freshmen in a spring game anyday. IMO it comes down to this they are very close in talent and similar in their performance this spring with the edge going to Hakes according to Rasor. But to me that doesn't matter, what matters is Hakes seems to have the leadership qualities that Jackson doesn't. After hearing about how he handled himself this spring it makes confident that Hakes will be the next QB. I base that opinion on this, he won 2 state titles in 2 years and it seems to me the kid is a born leader. I'll take a born leader with equal talent over a guy who has reported attitude problems all day.

I didn't put 2 and 2 together with Bryan Williams and Adams, nice catch. He could be a real playmaker for us...go zips!!!
-
Nice, yea I just read his blog and wasn't sure if they were going to have open practices.

I was on Rivals.com and Johnny really gives Akron a shout out on his AMO video just click the "Akron standout hopes for more" on the right hand side of the screen. He says he's gonna be at the spring game and he really wants to know more about Akron. Sounds like a good kid with his head on his shoulders and would be a HUGE addition to our Defense. I hope we get this kid... he could be a 4 year starter in his home town and I think that he's interested in that opportunity for the sound of it.Check it out it's definitely worth a look.

Just wanted to share my excitement, finally there are gonna be some pads cracking... I only wish I could be there to see it. Do you think Mike Rasor or The Plain Dealer will have some info on how it goes the next couple days, or is practice closed to the public?Whew I'm just glad football's back even if it is Spring Ball!!!

I don't know if you guys have been down to Texas but the Private School League is comparable to Division-2 ball in Ohio. They've had some pretty good players come out of there in the past few years...Cal: RB Justin ForsettMiami: WR Lance Leggett, OL Ian SymonetteAnd a QB from Episcipal School of Dallas made the Elite 11 this year, I would say his league isn't too shabby.Either way this is dumb to speculate right now, we all just need to let the spring unfold and it should answer our questions.

Cap't you've got us all anxious for the official announcement of who it is... any hints???
-
Man JD did one heck of a job recruiting Hargrave this year, I would really like that trend to continue. This is a huge pick up to fill the void we've got on the DL, cause without Stewart we don't have much depth ay DT.
-
How much size do you really have to have to play wr tho... just look at vince hill he's 5'11" 175lbs so as long as he's got the skills they'll put the size on him.

ESPN Combine ArticleThey list Alleman as a sleeper from this combine... he sure is getting alot of publicity.

Rivals.com has just broke the news that despite holding offers from Boston College, Michigan State, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Akron and others, Upper Marlboro (Md.) Gwynn Park defensive end Jeremiah Martin has decided to go another way. The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder made a commitment today to Prairie View?!?!?!Wow... that suprising!

A "Mondo-Large" Commitment
TXZipFan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
He's actually a 3-Star recruit on rivals.com too!!! -
HaHa I came across that article and thought the EXACT same thing... it would be a great thing for both parties!!! Just imagine UA having the stadium Wolstein had drawn up already, combine the funds together and bring alot of business and help Akron have an elite facility that even the Buckeyes could be jealous of. (looks and technology wise not so much size or tradition). If we had a field that was similar to what Wolstein had drawn up which was like 60 or 50k seats and a crazy modern design, we could quickly become a "hot" school to play for. The recruiting and excitement around the team would be insane!!!
-
Waynes Jones IMO is now priority #1 JD better be bringing the house with kid!!!
-
B&G- It's not that Johnson was an underachiever at Miami, I believe he had an injury and was never able to climb back up on the depth chart. No offense but unlike our Zips, "The U" gets a top 5 running back in the country just about every year. I don't care what he's done recently, there was a point in time where this kid proved himself to be one of the elite backs in the country and had alot of potential and was picked up by "The U" so I'll take a kid that might be hit or miss. Especially if he pans out to be what alot of people thought he could "potentially" be we could have a real solid ground game.

We better see more of him next year, I was refering to the "log jam" that was mentioned for the 08-09 season.
-
Pride is an incoming Freshmen and will probably redshirt, making him a (RS) FR in 08-09. As well you're forgetting Aaris Reed who will be a (RS) Soph. that year. So here's what it will look like in the 08-09...Dennis Kennedy SRAndrew Johnson SRAlex Allen SR (unless he is granted Medical RS)Bryant McMillon JRAaris Reed (RS) SOGary Pride (RS) FR or SO*Ryan Brinson SR (Could be playing DB)*Bryan Williams (RS) FR (He's coming from a Prep School which doesn't count against elgibility)+any additional recruits To be honest IMO it really doesn't look like a log jam to me, rather I think it's just solid depth and lots of talent.I could see Bryant McMillon transferring if he doesn't work his way into the lineup, but other than that I don't see anyone else who would leave.

He's already AT AKRON...
-
Yea I thought that had changed but I wasn't sure. This class keeps looking better and better.
