Although I agree that our defense should be fine and our kicking situation is anything but stable (keeping my fingers crossed that Iveljic heals up), but having a new QB and O-Line. IMO I thought Kemme outperformed just about all our other O-Lineman and other than Alleman I don't think any will be hard to replace. I EXPECT which ever QB that steps in to perform as good or better than Getsy did this season. Just look at TRUE Freshmen Nate Davis of Ball State this past year who out performed Getsy, if the CJ's or Hakes aren't better than him I am mistaken on the amount of talent we have at QB.(Just thought of something... if we rotated Jacquemain and Jackson we could refer to them as The CJ's hahaha i.e. like The LeBron's, just a funny thought I had while typing)

They're replaceable if the kid flunks out or leaves.
-
Yea he's a "beast" who just got booted from school...
-
I'm sorry but these players are given every advantage to succeed in the classroom (free tutoring etc.) if you can't succeed in the classroom it's because you aren't willing to put out the effort. SO yea he's right get someone in there that realizes that he's been blessed with a full scholarship to a Division 1-A University and he owes it to the school, his team and himself to succeed in the classroom.

BuckZip have you checked out Wayne Jones' Highlights from his senior year? The kid is 6'4" 340 and is strong and quick getting to the passer and ball carrier, check out the link man.But I agree we need two DL that can play, but I see Jones not just playing but DOMINATING! I really liked what I saw on his tape (he had good footwork on the OL and great speed and power on the DL).

We better sign some seriously talented DL or pick-up a solid JUCO. I really like the DE's we've picked up in Joe Rash, Marquinn Davis and Shane Shead. But I'd really like to see the middle get solidified, maybe Jafe Pitcock (if he's good enough, I dont have much info on him). I think landing DT Wayne Jones would possibly be one of the biggest pick-ups in this class if not the biggest, just because I think with his size he could have an immediate impact. I dont know how many people have checked out his new highlights on Rivals.com but he is DOMINANT in the middle.DT Wayne Jones Rivals.com Profile Linkhttp://www.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=59951He lists Akron as one of his two schools he has High Interest in along with Pitt, I really hope Jones picks the Zips... he's gonna be a FORCE in the middle.

Yea DL definitely is the area of concern for this team. My only hope is that Nate Robinson will play up to his billing for the first time since being selected All-Big East at Rutgers two years in a row. If Robinson doesn't step up, I'll be very worried about our DL.
-
Wow... I really hope that news is incorrect too. I thought Jacquemain looked like the better QB in last years Spring game between him and Jackson, although Jackson had the nod this year I expected Jacquemain to be right in the battle this spring.

I've got to admit this QB battle is gonna be interesting to see how this all pans out. I know I might be asking for too much, but I hope none of the guys transfer, especially with how good of athletes they are they might just make a position change. I dunno I just figure if you're a team player you don't just quit on your team if you don't win a spot. (unless the scheme doesn't fit the way you play, there's really no excuse IMO)

Marketing-related, and Well Done!!??
TXZipFan replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Regardless it's a nice touch, I was pretty impressed when I recieved my groups photo as well. I realize that the "new regime" has not lived up to all the billing, but if they can get this stadium up (something we've talked about for years) they will go down as a HUGE success and personally I will be perfectly satisfied with the job their doing. (But they've got to get the stadium built ASAP!Either way kudos to whomever sent out the cards, it was a nice touch on the holiday.GO ZIPS!!! -
Add that to the fact that they're losing all of their starting DL and a LB. It only makes an upset that much more realistic. GO ZIPS!!!

Good News: Heard today that Nate has decided against declaring for the draft early.Whew... I really felt Nate would have been making a BIG mistake in enetering the draft this year. Hopefully he'll realize the opportunity he has to prove himself next year, if he aspires to go to the NFL he will need to live up to his potential and dominate every game next year. This also makes me feel alot better about the middle of our D-line next year.

Daryl Dickey got fired this year from North Texas.
-
I sure hope not, cause for as many Florida and CMU's there are, there are way more cases of it being unsucessful i.e. Troy Smith and Justin Zwick, Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee, etc. They need to play the guy who gives them the best chance to win and stick with him. My only hope is that the guy who steps up and takes over can be a leader, I think the offense really lacked that last year.
-
Picking up all these OL and DL recruits this year is gonna be huge come this next year (especially the JUCO recruits). I really hope JD spreads the offense out like Florida does and uses our mobile QB's to cut this defense up. We've got the talent at reciever to run an Offense with more recievers on the field too. But the line recruits are gonna be real key (another reason I wish Nate Robinson was staying).

Maybe after they roll YSU they will sleep on the Zips, cause we're definitely going to give them a better game then the Peguins will.
-
I don't know who convinced him that he could get drafted solely based on the combine but he is sorely mistaken... yes combine #'s are important but most all of the guys at the combine have accomplished college careers and combine #'s to add to their resume. You can't just go to the NFL because you have alot of size and good measureables. Some b.s. agent probably talked him into this and if he's dumb enough to believe this then it's his own fault.

UCF's Bright House Networks Stadium, which seats 45,000 is being built for 65 million and looks amazing... so if our budget is 54 million I think well be sitting pretty. GO ZIPS!!!

If Brookhart has another losing season next year..
TXZipFan replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think having a losing season next year would be extremely disappointing and could spell the progress that's been made to fall apart a bit. But I dont think he should be fired because the school couldn't afford it and the progress he has made with this team has been good, although he would really need to prove it the next year or I think he would be on the hot seat. I think he is pretty far from the hot seat (even though many people seem to think he might be close to it), I really don't think he is even on a warm seat... He'll have another three years at Akron whether he's winning or losing. -
No offense but I feel like I sense a bit of bitterness... hmmm. If Alleman is going on the first day and people think Kemme is better, does it really matter, it's kinda a win-win isn't it?Obviously someone thinks Kemme is better... so I think it's good we'll have at least one real solid lineman returningI'm very happy for Alleman and wish him the best. Don't cut other players down for having success... same team man, same team, it's good for both of'em. It's ok to whine about our player not getting an honor, but when another Zip does, don't cut him down cause you think the other guy deserved it. It seems a majority of people disagree or else Alleman would have gotten it too. You don't need to feel bad for Alleman I'm pretty sure he'd rather be a first day pick in the draft and not be All-MAC, then to be All-MAC and not go on the first day.

Kemme is only a Sophomore he'll be a Junior next year.
-
Sounds like a great sized TE though...
-
Amen to that...

Details, Details...So you want Stadium Details?
TXZipFan replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips Football
I really like the location used in the drawings, but I noticed the dates on the plans are from May of 2005, I'm sure alot has changed since then. -
Pitt sucks... I say sign-em up, i think that it would be a good confidence builder to beat Pitt before going to play the Bucks. Now we just got to hope as many of their star players that are eligible for the draft decide to leave (i.e. Ginn, Pittman and Gonzalez).Buckeyes considering early exit...
