  1. I consider the year we made it to the Motor City Bowl and won the MAC Championship a success. The program was mediocre before Ianello. Ianello was brought in to transition the program from mediocre to bowl games every year. Instead, we regressed
  2. I like our current lineup a lot and think we have a serious shot at the NC title this year. Had we used this lineup the entire year, I doubt we'd have any losses.
  3. I don't see an archive link anywhere on there, only links to girls wearing bikinis. The facebook page needed to happen. We still haven't hit the 1,000 mark yet but 400+ in a couple days isn't bad. Let's hope this story is true.
  4. easier to just put the video in (youtube)(/youtube) but use these brackets ][ BTW, this is how I feel about it if it's true: And is there a link where I can listen to Zips Live? 1350's website is garbage filled with a bunch of bikini girls everywhere.
  5. this isn't updated for playoffs but here are the stats for Zips in the MLS this year:
  6. if this is true, do we give Tom Wistrcill a mulligan?
  7. "In Houston’s case, the rule spared Will Bruin, Kofi Sarkodie, Alex Dixon, Josue Soto, Francisco Navas-Cobo and Tyler Deric, six players who are seen as key to the team’s future." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...expansion-draft "Homegrown players and those on Generation Adidas contracts such as Bryce Alderson, Russell Teibert, Michael Nanchoff, Omar Salgado, Philippe Davies, Nizar Khalfan and Brian Sylvestre are exempt from the draft." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...expansion-draft "Despite battling with injuries, both Brad Evans and Steve Zakuani find themselves protected, as do 2011 standouts Lamar Neagle and Erik Friberg. Generation Adidas member Michael Tetteh is exempt from the draft." Steve Zakuani is no longer generation adidas according to this. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...ers-unprotected nothing from Chivas
  8. Thanks. I just read that. (It does help if you read first.) Korb is not GA. I didn't see Nagbe on the protected list. I wonder about Valentin being on the unprotected list then...He's GA, and not graduated. Now that I think about it more, the list is definitely inconsistent... Zakuani (2009 draft), Bunbury (2010 draft), Kitchen (2011 draft) - all fit the GA exception, but are listed as protected Gavin (2010 draft), Valentin (2011 draft) - fit the GA exception, but are listed as unprotected Nagbe, Sarkodie, Nachoff (2011 draft) - fit the GA exception, but aren't listed Korb, Ampai (2011 draft) - no GA exception, listed as protected, unprotected I believe a GA contract is for 5 years. "Another player on the protection list was rookie Perry Kitchen. After leading the club in minutes and games played, the 19-year-old graduated from the Generation adidas program, a development that wasn’t guaranteed but not completely unexpected." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...ncertain-future
  9. AMSTERDAM — Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury is set for a training visit with English Premier League side Bolton, MLSsoccer.com has learned. The 21-year-old spurned the chance to work out with Hoffenheim to visit Wanderers, becoming the latest in a long line of Major League Soccer players to arrange such trips in Europe this offseason. One source indicated to MLSsoccer.com that Bunbury may also work out with another English club after his Bolton stint. Now nursing an ankle knock, he is expected to join up in early December for two weeks. Currently 18th in the EPL, the Reebok Stadium crew already employ injured US midfielder Stuart Holden and now have the Colorado Rapids' Jeff Larentowicz with them in training. Bunbury has previously worked out with Stoke City and was the subject of a failed Brøndby bid this summer. In 2011, the second-year man bagged nine goals in MLS this season and added another pair in the playoffs. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...ng-stint-bolton
  10. I saw this too, I think I am most surprised by Zarek not being protected. He played a lot of minutes for Chivas and him being picked up by Montreal could definitely happen. Hmmm being a member of the "other" LA team versus playing in a unique, multi-cultural city for a rabid fan base with several UA teammates to boot. And weather is not a huge factor, given the MLS summer season. If I were Zarek or Blair, I know I wouldn't be too disappointed to be selected. The Impact were already going to be my favorite MLS team. This just makes it even better for me While I'm surprised and disappointed that at least Zarek wasn't protected, I'm with you JohnnyZip that Montreal would be a great place to be. For me, I love the idea of a Continental (United) weekend special from Cleveland to Montreal to catch a game. Passport ready! Question - Does anyone know why Kofi, Darlington, and Michael Nanchoff don't show up as protected or unprotected? Also, very cool that Chris Korb is protected by DC. That makes me feel really good about telling him before the draft that I was confident he would be drafted. I knew he was nervous about it. Go Zips! They're still under generation adidas "Generation adidas players who have not graduated by the end of 2011 and Home Grown players are automatically protected." which makes me wonder why Korb, Nagbe, Bunbury, and Kitchen are on the protected list?? Are they no longer Generation Adidas?
  11. It's not a matter of supporting Akron or any other collegiate soccer program. The Crew website has always done stories on former academy players succeeding after they leave the ugly yellow and black. That will probably be the case for a long time -- meaning they will not change their scouting or draft strategy to intentionally draft former academy players. For that matter, how many MLS players today dress for clubs for whom they played at the academy level? Very few I bet. BTW -- the MLS attendance figures are another exercise in exaggeration. Only the top maybe four or five clubs actually draw close to the announced figures. Just take a look at the stands during TV matches. The Crew Stadium is rarely half full. attendance for MLS games is usually very accurate. If you look at each game on an individual basis, you'll notice big variances for some clubs as they run promotions. Take New England for example, their past few games had decent crowds.
  12. Attendance for Charlotte: 1595 1279 2693 1283 1139 1448 1175 Total 10612 Average 1516
  13. Are you sure? I just looked, it starts at 1pm. You're good to go it got moved to 4 http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/...e_vs_balti.html
  14. It's going to be a little trickier this Sunday because the Cleveland Clowns game starts at 4. NFL games usually take at least 3 hrs to finish. Let's hope there are not a lot of people there around 7 so that we can get the same setup
  15. +1 Hermann Trophy candidate?
  16. For those that can't make it down, let's plan on the Barley House?
  17. I will try to set up a watch party at the Barley House again
  18. Unfortunately, Akron will be on the road again. the drive is between 7-8 hrs, 479 miles.
  19. we had over 30 show up at the Barley House for the watch party. Big Thank you to everyone that came and made it an enjoyable experience.
  20. I think I voted 'no' when I created this, I would vote 'yes' today
  21. If tickets are sold for $10 with $5 parking and the average fan spending $2 at concessions (some spend 0 so 2 seems conservative), then it would require 3,676 fans per game, or 22,058 for one game to pay Ianello's contract. An honest estimate for real attendance this year would be in the range of 4,000 - 6,000. I don't believe a single game this year had more than 10,000, while some games looked like there were no more than 2,000 at the game. There is a lot of money to be made to pay for Ianello's buyout from bringing in a coach that can put butts in the seats. Anyone that can't stomach the costs to buyout Ianello, remember that an increase of 3,676 people per game pays for it. The serious problem Akron will face not firing Ianello is bringing people back in the future. Firing Ianello now sends a clear message to the community that losing isn't tolerated. Tom Wistrcill needs to fire Ianello on Saturday and apologize to the Akron community.
  22. Columbus 2011 season average attendance is their worst since being in the MLS. Average attendance: regular season/playoffs 1996: 18,950/20,807 1997: 15,043/11,304 1998: 12,275/12,094 1999: 17,696/10,983 2000: 15,451/Missed Playoffs 2001: 17,551/20,883 2002: 17,429/11,624 2003: 16,250/Missed Playoffs 2004: 16,872/15,224 2005: 12,916/Missed 2006: 13,294/Missed Playofs 2007: 15,230/Missed Playoffs 2008: 14,622/17,613 2009: 14,447/10,109 2010: 14,641/10,322 2011: 12,185 But Akron didn't do so hot either: If you throw the Zips attendance into the equation, Akron is definitely a market to lean on.
  23. they passed us in average attendance this year
  24. I think this sign is the appropriate sign today
