I don't see Meves punting a whole lot during the games. He did boot a far one against SMU that impressed me. The majority of the time, he's throwing the ball down field. His throwing distribution has been very impressive. Am I the only fan here that would be very happy to have Meves as our GK next year? He's no Evan Bush but he's turning into one solid goalkeeper. I was at the NW game and he punted quite a few times. Since I am NOT an expert on soccer...I don't understand the strategy. Why ever punt?? What is Meves supposed to do if there is no one to pass to? Dribble on his 6 until one of his teammates can get open? Punting the ball is a necessary evil. I'm sure the Zips would rather keep the ball in possession, but sometimes its not feasible. Overall I think he's played very well this year. And I've definitely been impressed with Balogun at left back. He's looked extremely calm and competent. Meves is one of the best reactionary goalies in colllege right now. Forget about his leg strength and judge him based on his amazing saves. He had an extremely amazing save last year in the National Championship game.

look forward to having another amazing watch party. We ended up having over 30 people attend the last.

At this point, we're all assuming it's a done deal. I really hope it is. Wouldn't it be awful if these rumors were false (especially the one about Tressel being the next coach)? Could you imagine another year with Ianello?
-
booooooo, don't kill the rumor yet. Let us have some hope!!
-
won't happen, he'll be under contract to coach at Akron.
-
How can I vote for this when the only guy for the job isn't on there? Tressel is the one and only man for the Akron job

going to a funeral as a fired coach vs going to one still a coach. A lot less embarrassing for him to keep him as the coach for a week more.

I would be SHOCKED if Brian kept his "promise"! Montreal made a good choice. If he doesn't play, he's great trade bait (a former MLS MVP, for Pete's sake!) either back to Houston or to the West Coast. After Donovan leaves, the Galaxy will be looking for a scorer and leader. Back to San Jose is another possibility, as I believe Brian's wife is from the area. If he retires like he said he will (trading a 400k salary for a 60k job?), how does Montreal benefit? It would be a wasted expansion pick.

"Needless to say, there are a ton of upset Dynamo fans right now with anger directed at Impact head coach Jesse Marsch (who helped keep Ching off the 2010 US World Cup team), the Impact organization and the Dynamo organization. In the end, Montreal called Ching's bluff. Brian has said before the draft he would retire before playing in Montreal, Marsch admitted talking to Ching this morning and being told that again by the man himself, but proceeded to select him anyway." http://www.dynamotheory.com/2011/11/23/258...montreal-impact

Yeah, and trading away Justin Braun for James Riley too. Not sure what's going on in Chivas land Chivas likes losing. They also like being second best to LA. Interesting note: Houston is opening a new stadium next year and Brian Ching, who is the club's captain and near retirement, said he refuses to play at Montreal. He said he would retire if picked up and take a job in their front office, but he was not moving to Montreal and is staying in Houston no matter what because he wants to be there for the new stadium. Do you think Montreal are trying to call his bluff or are they trying to bank on him wanting to stay in Houston and play bad enough that Montreal will make a trade if the terms are good enough. Kinda seems like a dick move on Montreal's part. Trade him back to Houston for Kofi Sarkodie, gives Montreal 4 Zips.

Wouldn't it be something for Ianello to be fired and replaced by the guy he called out for poor sportsmanship? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkv2y1_cr...port#from=embed <iframe frameborder="0" width="480" height="270" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/xkv2y1"></iframe><br /><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkv2y1_credit-espn-espn3-com-dave-pash-chris-spielman-urban-meyer_sport" target="_blank">CREDIT: ESPN / ESPN3.COM (DAVE PASH, CHRIS...</a> <i>by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/sportsxbrooks" target="_blank">sportsxbrooks</a></i>

Tom Wistrcill not only gets a mulligan if he brings in Jim Tressel, it will save his career.
-
I think that may be the reason for all this. It's time for both sides to move on. he could be stepping down for personal reasons.
-
these rumors could get out of hand: http://www.facebook.com/groups/18446205830...=group_activity Tressel???? I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm staying away from the football boards for a week.
-
This guy?? http://gocuhawks.com/staff.aspx?staff=2 was in high school during that time, know nothing about him.
-
so far the reaction to this rumor seems to be positive. Doesn't look like there will be many disappointed if Akron does fire Ianello. I honestly think we should play on this rumor and send thank you emails to Proenza, I'm going to start working on mine right now.

You're giving TW too much credit. Caleb Porter, Keith Dambrot, Jodi Kest, ... , almost every other coach besides RI was at UA before TW. I give TW credit for not mucking up success in other sports by over-emphasizing football like was done when Bob Huggins was the Zips Mens Basketball coach, but that's really about all I can give him. BTW, as far as the money, I've heard rumors of someone possibly donating to buy out RI. I have no idea if those rumors are true or if footballscoop.com is correct. However, if both are true, the university may not be on the hook for the amount with which we're all concerned. People have money they are willing to donate. I believe if this guy (or anyone) did not donate for this purose...we would get the money for something else. So unless it truly is incremental money...UofA will suffer a financial loss and students or other programs will pay for it. With Gary Taylor's name all over everything, wouldn't be surprised if he's the possible donor. He spent a lot to have his company's name on the stadium, wouldn't think he likes seeing it empty.
-
If true, wouldn't they want Tom Wistrcill gone as well since they're paying for his HUGE mistake?
-
Tom Wistrcill shouldn't be under fire until after the soccer season. It would be weird to have an AD fired in the middle of a national championship playoff run. Better to wait until after we bring home the championship in December.

We should start sending Proenza 'Thank You' emails to show him this is the right decision. So if it is only a rumor, he'll feel more compelled to take action.
