Post winners like this: First Round: Coastal Carolina Old Dominion Brown St. Mary's Xavier Bradley Virginia Colgate Stony Brook Wake Forest Charlotte Akron UCF Duke Providence Northern Illinois Second Round: North Carolina Indiana St. Johns UC Irvine Maryland Bradley UCLA Boston College Connecticut Wake Forest Charlotte Akron South Florida New Mexico UC Santa Barbara Creighton Third Round North Carolina St. Johns Maryland UCLA Connecticut Akron New Mexico UC Santa Barbara Quarterfinal: North Carolina UCLA Akron UC Santa Barbara Semifinal: North Carolina Akron National Champion: Akron
  2. Every MLS game I've watched with an Akron player in it, the announcer spends a few seconds talking about the Akron program. I've watched over 30 games where this has happend. Let's hope Zeke and Diggs make the NBA so that the same can happen for basketball.
  3. I'd like to see both the Huskies and the Zips win on Thursday
  4. The last time I watched either channel 3, 5, or 8 news was when the Zips won the National Championship. I wanted to see if they caught me celebrating at the Barley House. Ratings for news stations aren't high for 18-30 year olds. I'm 27. Those news stations are for people that don't have internet.
  5. Another great video. We have a better marketing department than I was led to believe.. Good job. Ooooh, that video is indeed sweet. But, as far as "marketing" goes, who's going to see it unless they visit GoZips.com or search for it on youtube? Wonder if they're purchasing a few televised ads? We've got to place those videos in places where others, besides diehard Zips fans, will see them. I didn't find this video on youtube or gozips.com. It was on facebook and twitter. I found it through twitter which I retweeted to my 500+ followers.
  6. I believe Northern Illinois stadium is brand new, unfortunate to have a track around it but at least you don't have to see football lines during a game.
  7. Porter's speech to the team:
  8. Let's all plan on tailgating in lot 9 behind the football stadium scoreboard. We've been averaging around 20 people per game, let's make it 4:00 on Thursday. More information on facebook http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1809...ent_name_change
  9. Not too happy with the seeding, lots of watch parties to come?
  10. A lot of people showed up at barley, NCAA is milking this. Let's see it!!!
  11. if the NCAA can manipulate it some, I think Akron has a shot at a couple home games. I believe the NCAA gets the majority of revenue from ticket sales and with Akron ranking 3rd in the nation for regular season attendance, they'll make more $$$ having Akron play at home. We can only hope.
  12. official attendance was 167. Akron's loss in the 1st round hurt the MAC a little financially. 167 x $10 = $1670 compared to the 2,000 that would have shown up for more than $20,000 plus concessions.
  13. both teams were very direct, especially Western Michigan. Western Michigan booted the ball to the other side of the field every touch. They only had one serious attempt on goal that the crossbar saved. Northern Illinois mixed direct with possession but were also very wasteful. There were around 200-300 at the game, I missed the normal Akron soccer atmosphere I've come to love. Let's hope we get at least 1 home game in the NCAA tournament.
  14. There are so many threads in the football section asking for Ianello's head. We need one with a proactive approach for getting it done. I do not believe TW is considering firing Ianello at all right now. The only way this is going to get done is if there's a strong message sent to Dr. P from the Zips community. Let's come up with a plan.
  15. were there any free tickets going around for soccer? Could use that info for next year when I bring guests.
  16. it's 54.5% http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...3874&st=120
  17. Here's the top 20 for regular season attendance. I did not update schools beyond the top 20, which means some from 15-20 might not be in the top 20. I made the data public for anyone to update https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key...bE03UmZCWFBxRXc Here's the top 20:
  18. there are probably at least 10 fire Ianello threads in the football section. It feels like when each one starts, the same points have to be made again. I think it's easier to refer to a previous thread instead, especially when I'm busy nerding it up on soccer attendance figures. BTW, unless a school made an error in reporting attendance numbers, Akron ranked 3rd this year for soccer regular season attendance.
  19. there were a ton of positives mentioned in another thread about a month or 2 ago, too busy doing some attendance numbers right now to find it but I remember the consensus was he's doing very well in other areas, especially in academics. If you find that thread, it has everything there.
  20. your link doesn't work, with Can't links, it's best to use bit.ly http://bit.ly/vIi4eA
  21. taxpayers and the media will see a 54.5% increase in home attendance which looks very good on Tom's resume. He's scored high marks in other areas of the athletics department, I don't see how his job would be in jeopardy this year. Tom's problem is that he's stuck at UA. He won't be able to use his performance here as a stepping stone because of the mistake he made hiring Ianello, but he won't be fired either because of his performance in other areas of athletics. We'll be seeing him for a long time.
  22. Any Akron supporters plan on attending this game? I'll be there to watch.
  23. This is very good news for all soccer in the US. "MLS merchandise sales increased 35 percent this year, when the league's regular-season attendance rose 7 percent to a record 17,872. The league's average viewers for telecasts on ESPN and ESPN2 rose 16 percent to 311,000, according to Nielsen Media Research, and viewers on Fox Soccer Channel increased 26 percent to an average of 70,000. For Spanish-language broadcasts on Telefutura, viewers increased 10 percent to an average of 233,000." Source MLS commissioner Don Garber
