  1. Then can we count on any UberZips in the future?Well I don't think I created any UberZips in those pursuits, but i guess one never knows .But seriously, my wife was a college track runner at a smaller school. Hopefully our genes will combine to create some UberZips. And my kids will have no choice btw... if they are good athletes, they are going to be Zips.I wish all ex-Zips thought like you. It seems like once most people leave here, they forget about where they came from, and go back to becoming fans of the "bigger" schools.George Nanchoff and Michael Nanchoff. We tell our children that Akron has the top college soccer program in nation and that we're As far as football goes, we explain there are negative consequences for bad decisions. Hiring Rob iKnowNilo with a less-than-mediocre resume from a losing program is an example of one of those very bad choices.
  2. I'm 100% behind supporting this team for the remainder of the year. It's the players I support, not the coach. Only reason I made a reference to the Titanic thing is because there will be people that still support Ianello if we lose to VMI. At that point, those that still support him should be regarded as such.Although VMI is 0-3, I'm very nervous we'll lose. If this happens, we really need to start petitioning the University to fire this guy regardless of his contract. This is something we should all be united on.
  3. Battle of the Roos
  4. I wonder if it's possible to keep him as an assistant coach (Quarterbacks/recruiting). His pay would be high for an assistant but at least we're getting something for the $$$ being spent.
  5. does anyone know how much we're paying them to come play at Akron? I highly doubt more than 4,000 fans will show up for this game, if that. Only 5,000-6,000 showed up for the home opener.
  6. now that Mattocks has shown he can lose composure, expect a lot of teams to try to bring this out of him again.
  7. They've got to win for Zippy!!! This game should be known as the Battle of the Roos.
  8. Akron football is at an all time low right now and a lot of us are worried we'll lose again to another FCS/D1AA school. If Akron does not win against VMI, will the Zipsnation community finally come together and make it official that we want Ianello gone? This has got to be the last straw for him. I understand there are those that believe the Titanic (in this case, the raft) isn't sinking and they'll think that no matter what. But for the rest of us, how long are we going to allow this to continue silently?Ianello's job should be on the line against VMI, no matter the consequences of ending his contract.
  9. It cost more to keep iknowNilO than to fire him. Loss of ticket, concession, and merchandise sales is being felt very hard right now. Soccer is bringing more money in all 3 departments.
  10. It is starting to look like TCU may have made a huge mistake joining the Big East.TCU did make a huge mistake. Staying in Mountain West would seem wise right now considering Boise State's presence there. Big East would lose automatic bid to MW after this
  11. Toledo could easily go undefeated in the MAC which could be an undefeated season if they scheduled easier OOC games. I know it looks great if you can know off a big opponent but at the end of the season, being undefeated with a chance at a BCS bowl is worth a lot more.
  12. take away the Cleveland State loss and Bowling Green might be cracking the top 25 right now. Northern Illinois is helping Akron represent the MAC this year. I hope they continue to climb the polls.
  13. Unfortunately we can't schedule that way. The NCAA requires at least 5 home games every year, and that means at least 1 OOC home game.Next year we're playing UCF at home, and FIU on the road. The other two games are up in the air, but we should put ourselves out there for payday games. Nothing under $800k. I'm sure we can find two games. Either that, or find some name opponent that travels really well and set them up in Browns Stadium. I don't want to hear some excuse that our stadium is too nice to play a game in Cleveland. As I see it, there's also no need to keep playing an FCS school at home if you can't sell enough tickets to break even (payout to the other team, facility operations, staff). There's a plan. If that fails, they could always use money from the soccer team to subsidize the football team.
  14. I'm with you on this Zach. I don't think there's a chance it will happen but I'd be delighted if it did. Reason #1: Tressel has Akron roots and could coach here until he retires. Reason #2: whether he blows the big game or not, he gets there. He's an awesome coachReason #3: Ianello is not hungry to win, nor is he a good coach. He's not prone to make changes against his game plan. He sticks to it to the end, even if it's destined to fail. (sorry if you don't my opinion of Ianello, but that's how I see it)Reason #4: I believe Tressel is not a cheater and took the fall at OSU to save face for the university. (call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but I believe he told the AD at the time what was happening, and was told to keep silent)Regardless of going after Tressel or not, the University needs to start considering a financial backup plan. With the way attendance was last year and the outlook for this year, this football team is going to be running a big deficit. Even the Ianello supporters should understand how expensive it is going to be to keep Ianello as the head coach if the football team does not improve. I propose this to the university: Schedule all 4 non-conference games next year away at big universities. We need 4 pay days next year to help cover this financial mess and it should be done on Ianello's record. He needs to take responsibility for this mess we are now in. (We would be in a lot better shape with Brookhart right now, and I was one that wanted him fired)
  15. don't be a party pooper
  16. 4 in the top 15
  17. Season Scoring ComparisonAkron Soccer: 11 goalsAkron Football: 3 pointsThe soccer team is averaging around 3 goals a game, doesn't look good for Akron Football.
  18. Great post. Your first observation really hits home with me. Tailgating at the Info can't compete with the Rubber Bowl experience because the University lacks the initiative to make it so.you can park anywhere for the soccer games, which would allow a new tailgating scene for us Zips faithful
  19. Northern Illinois takes on Portland at 12, gametrackerBuffalo takes on Albany at 3, can't find gametracker.
  20. I was there. No way that place was half full. Each game could get an allotment from students, whether they go or not. Take the Buffalo game last year, there was maybe 200 people in the crowd. It could be that each game gets a 5,000 student boost because they allocate 5,000 tickets to students a game. Makes my initial argument that Akron Soccer draws more fans than Akron Football look more legit.
  21. as long as they have some way to justify that number somehow through inflation methods, have to go with it. I put the first game result comparisons up on first post. Today's game is the 2nd worst attended home opener since 2002.
  22. Should move the Zips up in the rankings
  23. First GoalSecond Goal
  24. If Northern Illinois beats Portland tomorrow, they could improve their ranking. New rankings come out on the 13th
