  1. Did we really "lose" him? I don't even see where he was offered by us. Just because he considered us doesn't mean that he could have come here to play. Somebody at Akron must have contacted him. Why else would he have considered Akron of all places? Damn lost a 5'8" running back/wide receiver to Waldorf. We could have converted him into a corner-back. He probably received a general letter from the coaching staff where they gave him information on the school, program, etc.... I got a ton of these when I was in high school. They didn't all turn into offers, but they made you look into the school just in case.
  2. I picked Oklahoma-Oklahoma St just because they usually have some crazy games in Stillwater and I like the word "bedlam". I went with Patterson as well for the same reasons. I was true to my conference also. I selected the flaming spear Seminole guy because I always thought he was pretty intimidating. I went with an odd choice for game day experience. Although I've never been there, images and video of Husky Stadium right there next to Lake Washington look spectacular. I have spoken to quite a few college football travelors and many have Washington at the top of their list. It is one of my top 5 future game day locations that I must do. As for Mississippi.....I have spoken to quite a few people about that as well and they would agree with you on the female co-ed's.
  3. I was one of those idiots. Because I like college football. I would like to see it changed so that my main experience at one of the games was more than just "feeling good" because my team was playing in a big stadium. That sounds all good and well, but the fact of the matter is that there are always blowouts in college football. BCS teams destroy BCS teams all the time. I was in Orlando for new years and I was dumb enough to go the the Capital One bowl. Alabama absolutely destroyed Michigan State. After the game I felt like I wasted my money, but I don't think they should ban Michigan State from the capital One bowl or drop them to a lessor division either. It is just part of the game and that is one reason why I watch.

  5. Even if I lived in Ohio, I wouldn't go to this game. A day or two at Put-in-Bay would be time and money better spent, but don't tell that to my liver. I could care less about whatever they feel they need to restore at osu. I won't pay to go see what I believe to be a fraud perpetrated upon college football fans. That fraud is the BCS conferences OOC schedules and their playing non-BCS schools in order to pad their wins/pockets. People who pay to go to these games are part of the problem in college football. The schools do it because the fans are stupid enough to purchase tickets to this nonsense. I'd gladly pay to see the Zips play any MAC school or even FIU. I refuse to have my money stolen from me. Go Zips! You are right....just like those idiots that went down to watch us play NC State, or Toledo fans that drove up to the Big House or happy valley. Mid majors win all the time. I happen to be one of the people that loves seeing MY school step out on the field with the "big boys". Why do you even bother to pay attention to NCAA athletics? Nevermind, I dont really want to hear the answer.
  6. Chisolm was a late addition to the class. Didnt he show up one day before camp? They had 2 seniors and Georgio Bowers. It doesn't surprise me a bit. Ianello explained the Suel decision. He felt he was ready mid season and it wasnt worth it to blow Suels redshirt with how the team was doing. He wasnt a true freshman. His eligibility is much shorter. It would have been stupid.
  7. We lost people, but did we really? Alex Allen (post hip injury) and Nate Burney were sub-par D1 talents. I would take all three of our current tailbacks (especially Chisholm) over either Burney or Allen. I don't care about experience for a tailback, it is meaningless. Freshman running backs thrive all the time. What did we really lose at receiver? Jeremy LaFrance was decent, but small. Jalil Carter was a db playing out of position. He only caught 30 balls and most of them were late in the season. We replace them with more talented guys. Antoine Russell, Keith Sconiers, AJ Price and Marquelo Suel is a much better group than last years. Our TE position is in better shape this year. Our qb position now has 3 options instead of one. Throw Tyler Williams in the mix as a wr, rb, kr and pr and the offense gets even more explosive.People are expecting the worst from Akron's offense because they have no clue that the players that are stepping in are much more talented than the group that left. Not only that, these guys are now in their 2nd year of the offense.
  8. Here is a great read from January of 2007 that is right in line with your back and forth conversation. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/03/sports/n.../03tressel.html
  9. I thought the same thing. Not a Zips fan.lol learn how to take a joke. Two words: situational awarenessLighten up Francis. Two wordsOver reacting.I usually have your back on a lot of things, but that comment was about as bad as it gets. Why on earth would you want to crack the program when someone is expressing interest in bringing a player here? I guarantee he went running back to the kid and told him to stay the hell away from this program. If we can't help sell the program and the potential that it has, we are screwed. Our glorious record during the last several years isn't going to have recruits lining up to play at UA.
  10. Two points:1. We don't compete at the top level right now. We call ourselves D-1A, but we really aren't. My 20 inch penis agrees.2. They will just ask the taxpayers to pick up the tab...and they will. We are currently killing ourselves by other means.Lastly, I'll say it for the 1,000th time. It isn't being sent to another level. We won't go back to I-AA and will be at a higher level than YSU. It will be a level between bcs and I-AA. We need to live in the world of reality. This is just stupid. Why don't we just create 50 divisions so that EVERYONE can compete? There are plenty of bottom dweller high school and college programs, regardless of how many divisions there are. Adding more divisions to the NCAA will do absolutely nothing to help UA or other MAC schools. We will be playing the same teams anyway, except losing a few of the big money games like OSU, etc..which I love playing!! How will this help UA? I couldnt imagine trying to recruit a kid right now if we were in D1 part B. "Son, come play at UA where you can be a part of one of the worst D1-B programs in the country." Where do I sign up??? Regardless of how bad we are, we still get kids that are offered by some larger schools because we ARE D1. Dropping a division will hurt recruiting.I have zero interest in watching college football that is in a lower division. I know, you already think the MAC is a lower division. I would rather have the school abolish the program before dropping down a division.
  11. Who says that he hasnt done a hell of a job as a recruiter? Look at some of the youth that has been added to this team and the promise that they have shown already...1. Jawon Chisholm - looks like he has all-mac talent2. Anthony Holmes - Going to be a very solid db...all mac potential3. Tyler Williams - Is going to be the most explosive player the zips have had in over a decade.4. Antoine Russell - Showed flashes as a true freshman and I think he will be much improved this year.5. Nick Rossi - a top 10 ILB recruit in the nation.6. Keith Sconiers - Another highly touted receiver that looks like the real deal.7. Zack D'Orazio - Another solid athlete that looked damn good in the spring for being a freshman.8. Nico Caponi - Solid D line player as a freshman and played well this spring.9. John Griggs - His video looks like he is a long, lean and explosive pass rusher unlike we have seen at UA in a while.10. Andrew Bohan - Solid and well rated OL that played well in both of the post season all star games against very high talent.11. Clayton Moore - SEC talent that is very intriguing and adds much needed depth to the position.12. Kyle Pohl - Another highly touted young QB that looked the part in the All Star game. While we aren't sure how all of these guys will end up, I have a lot of hope compared to many of the other classes. I see this young talent infusion helping us win a few games this year. Once recruits see the program going in the right direction the sky is the limits. I am excited.8 of those guys haven't played a single down in a college game. According to your list, only four players that Ianello has recruited to the Zips have contributed in a meaningful way despite the team being supposedly so devoid of talent when he took over that you would think that every single incoming freshman would have earned a starting spot. Thanks captain negative. Do you really want me to write a 30 player list? I could have added freshman from last year like ShelDon Miller, Austin Bailey, Jamar Williams or Richard Hall, but I chose to keep the list short and sweet to the ones that I think have the highest ceiling. Is Hall still on the team?No idea. I asked about this on another thread.
  12. That preview was an attempt at being funny from a source that probably care less about the MAC whatsoever. This one comes from MAC "specialists". Read this gem. http://www.vandelaysports.com/football/mac...2011/akron.htmlThat's pretty ugly.I couldnt care less about these predictions. These guys know nothing about the MAC or the Zips. The talent level of the freshman and sophomores is vastly improved over what we have seen in quite a few years. I just can't see us being a 1-11 team with Chisolm, Williams, , etc... being introduced to the offense.Vandelay is supposedly a MAC expert service. You gave a better preview of the Zips in a couple of sentences. A service like Vandelay putting out garbage like this is a joke. First of all, they should pick up a roster. "Gray" Pride hasn't been here for months and Richard Hall is a more recent disappearance. Secondly, at least know who performed well in the spring. No mention of Chisholm. I can accept someone from Rivals making a smart-ass prediction for entertainment's sake. He wasn't trying to peddle real analysis. This joker from Vandelay was.Is Hall actually gone? I haven't seen that, but I do notice that he isn't on the roster. People are always missing from those, so I thought it was just an accidental omit.

  14. Try this in your address bar:http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/2011/06/...r-james-turner/If he can just lose a couple of inches he will be perfect for us at cornerback.Great! Another small, undersized LB (5'11", 205). Same old, same old. If he can play SS, that's a diiferent situation. SEC schools thrive by playing undersized DE's and LB's that can RUN. 5'11 is not too small. 205 turns into 215 in no time once they get into the strength and conditioning program.Brian Rolle was a 5'10 and 202 pound recruit coming out of high school and that kid was a human missile on the football field in college.

  17. They rarely ever blow out Ohio schools. That is just the way Tressel was. Yes...they have 5 times the talent. Count how many NFL players off the current NIU roster and then count how many come off the OSU roster. Saying that, they are 30x more talented.
  18. Different players. Different circumstances. Different year.I hope you are right.
  19. I reserve the right to change my mind later. This score is close though.OSU will not put up 55 on us. They could put more than 35 up, but I don't think they will. The loss of Pryor is going to hurt their offense badly, especially against top level teams. OSU is replacing a lot of players this season and that will show itself the first couple of games. Maybe we can get a couple of turnover to go our way. Combine that with the guys out because of the NCAA, the game become more competitive.Right now, I look for a 28-14 score. I don't see us being in the game in a meaningful way. A further prediction will be at least ten fans of either school will fall asleep from boredom. One half of these fans will hurt themselves as a result of the fall. There are so many questions about this team. We'll learn more about them the second game against Temple than we will against OSU. Temple is a more meaningful game than OSU. We need to come out ready to play and get our first MAC win of the season. I don't just mean compete well against Temple, I mean win the game. We'll be playing at home, at night and the crowd should be good. Anything can happen in the MAC. Temple may only be the second game of the season, but if there is such a thing as a must win, this is it.I learned from Bill Cowher that the most dangerous team is one with confidence and momentum. If we can beat Temple and VMI going into EMU, we can beat a bad program and come home for three straight. If we are 1-3 going into EMU, anything can happen because there is no confidence or momentum. Lose at EMU and we have a huge problem again. If we start out the season 1-4 with zero D-1A wins, look out...it will be a long season. We gave up 38 to freaking Gardner-Webb at home. We gave up 50 to NIU at home and 56 to WMU at home. What makes you think that OSU won't put up 55 on us? They have 5 times the talent of those teams combined.
  20. Akron will have a much better chance with Moore back there. They will need someone that can move. Nicely will get killed back there. If Moore is as advertised he will at least keep the chains moving a little bit. OSU has all new linebackers back there along with some new faces on the d-line. Moore could make it interesting.Unlike most years when they play a team from Ohio, OSU will be playing with a chip on their shoulder. Tressel also won't be there to pull in the reigns on the offense. We are another two classes away from even remotely being about to have the depth to keep it close. Unfortunately, I see us losing by about 40-45.....something like 55-10.
  21. I feel exactly the same way. Tyler Williams is going to be a special player for us.
  22. I havent heard anything about how this 7 on 7 session went. Any news?
  23. Tomorrow is the 1st day of July. Signing day isnt for another 7 months. There is absolutely no reason to be concerned. If we start the season 0-6, then I will be concerned. If we show improvement in the w-l column, this staff will bring in talent. Why would anyone commit here this early until they see if the program is going in the right direction?
  24. Seriously? This guy has been a recruiter (one of the best mind you) for decades, and you are going to tell him that he doesn't know what he is doing? This is one area where I have all the faith in the world in the guy. He brought in Jawon Chisholm after all the schools picked their guys and he looks to be the stud running back that we have been needing for a long time.
