Unless I hear that ua decided to pass this is devastating news for the football program. A former alum and player turns his supposed dream job down to stay at a d2 school. I wonder how low they are going to have to go on their list to get ANYONE to take this job?

I'm not kidding when I say this. I could study the Temple playbook for a week and put up 41 on our defense. Why do you need a week? All you have to do is hand the ball to Pierce over and over and 41 would pop up in no time.

Do you know their philosophies on how they want to run the program or how they intend to do it? You know Paul Winters. Great. Every guy I know that played for Winters loves him. However, you are absolutely clueless about any other candidate that is in the running just like the rest of us.

I have been a member here since almost the beginning. I played for this University and am a four year letterwinner. I've posted about thousands of topics, and know more about Akron football then you will ever want to. Me giving my opinion on who the coach should be after seven years posting here and being involved in Akron football for 12 years is a little different than some new username coming on here and only posting about one guy and one topic. Alright internet tough guy. It is a forum. he can come on here and talk about any coach he wants. You don't have to play for the school or be a board member for several years to give an opinion.

We need a head coach, not a QB coach. I agree. Especially if it is true that he didn't even call the plays as Temple's O-coordinator.

So he's only had one year as a coordinator (and thus only one year managing a staff of assistants) and he has never called plays, ever, because Temple's HC calls the offense. Yeah, that's the kind of guy we need. I don't know if you noticed, but Temple's quarterback was not very good. Before that, he had Tebow to work with and that would make you look pretty good no matter how your coaching skills are. Temple was rated 117th in the nation in passing yards. Akron was 105th. Without Bernard Pierce (who this guy inherited from the previous coach) carrying the team, they would have been worse on offense than we were. Um.....no

I am looking forward to watching the game to get a glimpse of his coaching style, however, I am pretty sure Akron will make their selection before he plays that game.

You don't realize the difference between D2 and D1 until you watch them back to back. Temple looks like a pro team with their size and speed compared to what we watched at the D2 championship level. That is the biggest thing that scares me with Winters. You can say whatever you want, but it is a huge jump to make.

Most MAC coordinators have had position jobs at bigger schools. I said he has a good resume.

He does have a decent resume, but I would be surprised if we took a MAC assistant as a coach. I think Matt Campbell was and exception to the rule.

I have always hated Tom Luginbill, but I realize more now than ever that he is a moron. Interesting quote in there.... When other MAC teams were beating Akron senseless the past two years, it looked to me like it was a coaching issue as well as a talent issue. I think you're right. It was some combination of both. I know some people like to bash on ICoach, but I believe he was seriously lacking in adequate personnel in a number of areas. He may have been a bad coach, but no coach can win with bad players. I thought when you have a great recruiter, getting good players is not an issue? He only really had one class. The first class was only partially his. He wasn't a good coach, but I don't think his first class is that bad considering the state of the program.

If anyone has a rivals membership go to the MSU site. They have a better write up on our coaching search than any other one that I have seen. To sum it up....According to Nardozzi he has had no conversations with Akron about the job. He said that he has been on the road recruiting. Spartanmag suggests that Akron will be speaking with him this week because their sources suggest that Akron wants to make a hire by next week. Michigan State is extremely worried about losing him. He has been the most successful d coordinator that they have had. He is considered their best recruiter. He is also the lead recruiter in New Jersey, NE Ohio and parts of Michigan. Narduzzi is currently making $233k, but they suggest that his pay is about to be increased to $290k. They are hearing that Akron will be paying in the $400k range. It doesn't sound like he is in that big of a rush to be a head coach, so who know?

Rivals just graded DQ Johnson as a 3 star. He wasn't given any upon his commit. They must have reviewed tape after he gave a verbal somewhere.

Part of the reason he made so many tackles down field is because he was either dropping into coverage or shedding offensive lineman that devoured our pathetic DL and got to the 2nd level. I am. I certainly could be wrong, but the 440V line dropping in the bathtub describes the level of shock I'd receive if it's anyone else. That is about the level of shocked I would be as well. If they wait until Monday to introduce any of the other candidates, it will have been a huge time management blunder. Everything, and I mean everything is pointed directly at Winters being hired.

I see what you are trying to say, but I, as do most Americans, have a problem when someone says that we would be better suited to just accept that and get on board if we don't agree with it. That's like saying you were a German that didn't agree with Hitler, but you should just shut up and support him because a majority of the country thought he was the man to lead them. I don't think his analogy is that far off. It is like running a corner store compared to a walmart. You sell the same things, but the size of the store, the number of employees and that $ coming in and going out is just on a smaller scale. The complete silence on the hiring process has gotten me so frustrated that it is hard for me to support anyone because I have no idea what is really going on or who is really in the running for the job. Because of that, I can't just drink the Winters is the man kool aid.
