I am sure we have offered quite a few of those kids. However, most of them are holding out for the "big offer" before they choose have to choose us.

+1 well said The most glaring thing that sticks out to me is that we still have a huge talent gap to fill. I don't care what kind of football rules they played, A D-1 school should run circles around a D-3 school in any format. Our receivers should have been uncoverable and our db's should be able to lock down their receivers.
-
This is a great point. It is troubling for me as a former athlete to know that the players were so blase about getting their asses kicked by a bunch of glorified high school players. Obviously, Mounts players took it as a fight which is why they play for a title every year. Our players are so used to losing that they didnt even care to put up a fight. I don't care if it is cornhole, this doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the leadership (player leadership) of our team.

I would really like to get some information on that 7 on 7 game, because that is just ridiculous if true. It is all over yappi and scout. Everyone is laughing their a$$es off that we got smoked by a D3 team. I know 7 on 7 doesn't mean much, but there is absolutely no reason that any D3 schools should even be able to compete with us.
-
I wouldnt say that our db's were "physically" slow last year. They were just always out of position. They had no idea where they were supposed to be and the hesitation of being clueless made them play slow.

PD coverage with some nice things to say about Williams. He's really played well in these all-star games. His quickness appears to standout in particular, but it's also nice to hear about his ability to catch the ball downfield. I'm excited to see him in the fall. I think we may have found our punt returner for the next 4 years. This kid is going to tear apart MAC defenses. He looks like Peter Warrick when he was at FSU except he is way faster.
-
This seems like Devoe Torrence part two. An all american linebacker that wants to play a position that they have no business playing. This could be a huge waste of talent.
-
These people are clueless. When does any pre season MAC prediction come true? Who had Miami winning the conference last year? We just need to wait until the season gets underway because none of us have any clue whether this team will be better. After watching the spring game I say yes, but nobody knows.
-
That's what I was thinking. If we can't contain our own offense, those guys in Cowlumbus will just run right over us. It was also a defense that was missing 4 starters and wasn't really allowed to do much of anything because it was a spring game. Joe Bauserman looks to be the starter at OSU while Pryor is out. Pathetic doesn't even describe how awful he is. I would stack the box and make them beat us by throwing the ball. Stoneburner will be tough to defend at TE and Chris Fields will be very good. Their running game scares me, but Bauserman doesn't. I don't care who he has as receivers, he couldn't hit anyone last year.

I think it was a terrible showing. Our defense will be lucky to hold any opponent under 40. Why am I not surprised by your comments? They could have dressed the Green Bay Packers in Akron uniforms and you would have gone into a tirade about how bad the team sucks and how the coach has to go. You are beyond a broken record.
-
You arent the only one. This team is light years ahead of where it was at this time last year. We have some new guys stepping in with talent. Chisholm has all mac talent and Moore looks to be the real deal. I like D'Orazio as well.

#15 looked very explosive, whoever it was.

You are right...he should offer the nobody's first.

Urichsville isn't exactly in Athens' backyard. Interesting to discover another native of Tuscarawas County on the board. three... make that 4....I went to IV.
-
Who likes him? No one important. Just a few insignificant folks outside the masses on the social gossip networks. So the uninformed. They read the press release and so hear the PR spin but don't do their own research. Can you ever write one comment that isnt a bash on the coaching staff? It is beyond nauseating. Every post is a broken record. ..... our coaching staff stinks, i hate the coach, we hire bad people, we cant recruit, our coach sucks, our staff sucks, our new staff sucks, our coach sucks, oh yeah...our coach sucks.
-
Why do you have to talk that way about other programs? Is it because Akron is the worst team in the worst conference in D1 so it makes you feel better? It's a fact that iCoach is driving away players in maas (he even drove away the "Rudy" award winner) - the fact that they won't see the field is not the issue, the issue is why are all these kids leaving. For every kid that leaves, there is probably at least one other kid that wants to leave but can't since they are on scholarship. The kids that left are thinking they can either stay with a program they hate and possibly see their grades suffer, or transfer to a quality school and still play the game they love. Remember, the main reason for going to college is to learn, not play football. The focus should be on education first, not athletics. So when your attitude about the athletics effect your performance in the classsroom, it is time to move on. For over 99% of these players, this will be the last football they play. It gives us a chance to get rid of non contributors and add better talent. I doubt these guys even added practice squad depth. I have no problem with this. Some of these guys want to play ball, they dont want to be practice squad dummies. This may have nothing to do with Ianello and more to do with guys wanting to see the field.

So there is a bright side to this hire. Smart aleck comment of the year (so far). Gotta give credit when it's due. One of the bright spots for the Gophers in 2009 was the improvement of the Gopher defense. This improvement was in large part to defensive co-coordinator, Kevin Cosgrove who joined the staff last off-season and made an immediate contribution to the Gopher program. When I spoke with Coach Cosgrove a year ago, he was one of the most controversial Gopher coaching hires, but in a short time, he has earned the respect of many fans. In the 2007 season, the Gophers had the worst total defense in the nation and ranked #119, Ted Roof turned that around in 2008 to finish #73, and Cosgrove was able to improve upon that even more to a #62 ranking. Cosgrove himself admits there is a long way to go, but it is certainly moving in the right direction. He was named the top coordinator in the Big Ten by The Sporting News in 2002 and was named one of the top coordinators in the nation by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. in 1999. Cosgrove was also inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008

Good point. The star system is very flawed and there are a lot of people with their own agendas and favorites. To truly judge a player, as much as you can judge them before they get here, look at his offers. If he has offers from big time schools, he is a player. I am not talking interest from the schools, I am talking an actual offer. Yeah, you mean like Aaron Rodgers who didnt have one....NOT ONE ....D1 offer? This talk about our bad recruiting under Ianello is beyond annoying.
-
You know nothing about recruiting. You know nothing about talent evaluation. You know nothing about building a college football program from the ground up. Basically, you know nothing when it comes to this. The guy isn't known as a whiz recruiter for nothing. If he doesn't bring in talent that results in W's he will ultimately be judged by that. Until then, I couldn't care less whether people on here or rivals are wowed by our classes. Frankly, I dont care if you are unimpressed because that doesnt mean anything. Lets see what these kids have before we brand them losers. Freaking unbelievable.
-
I really like a lot of the video that I saw. He looks like he recruited athletic kids with good frames. They LOOKED like college players. Our typical recruits look like high school kids even after they get here.
-
This class was extremely heavy on lineman, which isn't surprising. I think (i hope) that Ianello realizes that linemen are the foundation of the program. I have a feeling that "year 2" is building even more lineman depth and focusing on the skill players. Great linemen make marginal skill players look better than they really are.

BCS schools dont have to take chances on risky kids. Mac schools do.

Scout has Price as a 3 star.

Rivals is reporting a DT commit from Woodland Hills, PA. His other offer was New Hampshire.
