I hope I am wrong. I am going with:IU - 24Akron - 17Another valiant effort comes up short. Also, I don't think IU's offense is better than OSU's. I watched the first half of their game with Western Michigan. The Broncos pretty much self destructed in that one.It is beccoming apparent that the Zips have an upper echelon, BCS defense this year. I expect OSU to score more points against Washington than they did against us. They will also give up more though. As good as our D is, our O looks very week. Brookhart needs to get that thing turned around quickly.

The doctors are now saying that it unlikely that he will ever walk again. What an awful outcome for that young man. We all need to pray for him, his family, the entire Buffalo Bills organization, and Domenic Hixson who now has to live with this for the rest of his life even though it was a fluke thing.

I was that rep from AK-OLDIES (and Craig, we'll get you that shirt). All of the Wing Warehouse staff was wearing Ohio State gear. Since my money is blue and gold, I gave my waitress an AK-OLDIE shirt to cover her Buckeye shirt. She's from Can't State but doesn't care about Can't State sports.Get this...her manager made her take the AK-OLDIE shirt off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I asked my waitress if her manager was an OSU grad. She only said she was an OSU fan.Not good enough for me.I understand doing what you want with your own business, but this was petty.I will spend my money elsewhere. Thanks ZIP81. I got your email and responded to it with my address. Thanks for tracking me down at the Wing Warehouse. Obviously their manager is a front running loser just like Cicero who seems to think that schools represent geographical areas rather than their current and former students and faculty. Isn't funny how Suckeye fans get so bent out of shape when you question their allegiance to a school that they absolutely have no ties to other than "I grew up a Buckeye fan". What a bunch of B.S. At least us folks here at the nation are willing to support our school rather than someone else's just because they happen to be the popular winner every year. If I remember corretly, isn't Cicero a Miami Redhawk. What the H*ll is he rooting for OSU for? He is a disgace to that great university in Oxford. As far as the Wing Warehouse, its a shame that you were treated so rudely by management there. That is a great bar with a great atmosphere, but I have to say that I have probably spent me last dollar there as well.I think I will be heading to the Lizard in Fairlawn next Saturday. Hopefully they will give us a good area to watch the game without any interuptions from Suckeye fan. Otherwise, I may have to do my best impersonation of an Oakland Raider fan on them.

I watched the game at the Wing Warehouse in Cuyahgoga falls. There were about a dozen of us there rooting for the Zips. There was even a representative from the AK Oldies signing up new members (Very cool). Unfortunately we also had about 50-60 folks there rooting for the suckeyes. Everytime they did their OH-IO chant, I sounded off with "You didn't go to school there". That pissed them off because they didn't have a come back for it. It was very enjoyable watching them all drown in there beer at halftime. If we just had half of an offense today, we would have had a very good chance. I hope those front running losers lose all the rest of there games. People who root for others schools and others professional teams deserve to lose. Well, at least I saved myself from a black eye or fat lip today. I am certain that if we won, I probably would have started running smack against a crowd that outnumbered me 3-1 in greater Akron! Man. I hate those guys! Nothing against the OSU team, but everything against those front running loser fans of Columbus State who never set foot on that campus, let alone, went to school there!Indiana doesn't have a chance against our defense next week. Go Zips! 1-1 in the Big Ten.

Zips are Ranked Nationally
Kangaroo Craig replied to BZip_08's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I hate polls! There so damn biased towards schools from BCS conferences. UAkronKid, you are right. We should have been ranked much higher to begin with, but unfortunately we will never receive the respect that we deserve. Two years ago we were hosed when it came time to seed the teams for the tournament and that probably cost us a chance to compete for the title. The worst one of all is that Sagarin. What a moron! -
LOL! I think I'm going to pee myself! Better find a bathroom.

I just called the Wing Warehouse in Cuyahoga Falls (Corner of Wyoga Lake and Steels Corners). The gal there said that they will be carrying the game as well. She said that if you get there by 11:30 you should be able to find a table. This place is realitively new. I think they opened middle of last winter. I have been there a few times. It is really cool! In addition to the tables, they also have a bleacher sectioin that faces a large, big screen TV for those who want the gametime effect. Also, they usually have some sort of beer special going on. Good choice for us folks who live in northern Summit county. About a five minute drive for me.

Thanks to Thomas, Steinbach, and hopefully Bentley (somewhat of a longshot), I don't see this happening to Quinn. I think they finally got the OL thing figured out (Fingers crossed).
-
I agree that Quinn is probaly going to be a better pro, but I would not allow him to see the field at all this year unless Charlie becomes injured. Frye is a good pro and will show this season that he can be very serviceable when surrounded by decent talent (Especially on the line). Anderson will be out of the league after this year. Quinn will be next year's starter and Frye will be his backup. In the unlikely event that Frye has a monster year, he will be traded for a second round choice and will start somewhere else (Ala Drew Brees from San Diego to New Orleans). This would be the best scenario for both he and the Browns since Cleveland no longer has a first round draft choice in 2008, and, it would probably mean that they had a successful season. The Browns will be improved, but their biggest glaring weekness is not at QB, it is the run defense (A patchwork of old guys and young, inexperienced, very little talent guys). This is not discussed much because the media, and average Joe Fan is only concerned with the quarterback position.
-
That song is played during time outs at Browns games and all of the Suckeye faithful (95% of which, never set foot on that campus, let alone went to school there) stand up and sing it in unison. I can't wait to wear my Frye jersey and Zips hat on Sunday after we beat them. I will be singing the Z-I-P-S version of "Hang on Sloopy".It's going to be a great weekend watching both of the front runners lose (Suckeyes and Squeelers). I wish the Tribe were playing the Yankees so we could make it a trifecta!

If you like Ohio State so much, then why didn't you go there instead of MU? (I am assuming Miami, but maybe Marshall?). When you attend a school, that school is the one that should get 100% of your allegiance. The right thing for you to do would have been to cut all ties with OSU the first day you set foot on the MU campus (I know I am going to get some disagreement on this from some on this thread who see otherwise). I will never understand those who think that it is okay to root for OSU because they are "Ohio's" team. Those folks are just dead wrong. Schools do not represent geographical areas, only professional sports teams do. There are two football teams that represent the state of Ohio and they are the Browns and the Bengals. OSU is a school. It is either yours or it is someone else's.

I don't know if any of you guys saw this. Zippy has been chosen to the Capital One Bowl All American Mascot team for 2007. the Beacon Journal's Patrick McMannamon stated in his "Patrick's Point of View" article today that we can vote for Zippy as the mascot of the year by visiting the Capital One Bowl Website. Here is the link:http://www.capitalonebowl.com/I tried to find the link for voting, but could not find it. The home page says "Coming soon" so I think it is a little early. We all need to bookmark this page and then start stuffing ballot boxes for Zippy as soon as the contest becomes official.

Desired future opponents at InfoCision Stadium?
Kangaroo Craig replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
Well, I'll agree to disagree and we'll just end it at that. -
I am a huge Browns fan. I have seen what happens when you throw a rookie into the NFL with little or no experience. Charlie looked very good in preseason in 2005. He also looked good that same year in limited action. Don't read too much into Brady's early success. Wait until he has played a few games and NFL defensive coordinators had had a chance to figure him out. That will be the real test. I think in time, Quinn will be a good pro. If they play him right away his confidence, and his body, will be destroyed just like Couch's was. I vote for playing Frye this year as long as he can remain healthy. If Frye gets hurt, go with Anderson or Ken Dorsey (Although I am not sure I want either of them - Maybe wait and see who is availble on the waiver wire). The Browns are going to be a run first team anyway. If the offensive line is as good as advertised, and Lewis is back to his old self, Frye will not need to throw the ball very much anyway. That would be an ideal scenario. It would also mean that they are winning.

Desired future opponents at InfoCision Stadium?
Kangaroo Craig replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm sorry if I offended you BuckZip. You a re a great Zips fan and you are very good for this board. I wasn't referring to the small group of Buckeye fans who went to both schools I was just referring to the OSU fans who only attended 1A football schools in Ohio other than OSU. For some reason, some of those fans (Very few, if any, on this board) feel compelled to be more of a fan to the big, successful winning school, that they have no tie to, rather than their own, or maybe just a token amount to their own. Everyone loves a winner don't they? The local print and TV media has played a very large role over the last 50 years by portraying OSU as almost a pro sports team, meaning if you live in the state of Ohio, then you should be a fan. Many have been brainwashed into believing that. It is only my humble opinion, but I bellieve that only professional sports teams represent areas (Cities and surrounding areas in particular). Schools represent current and former students, alumni, faculty, and on a reach, those who don't have a school and just want to pick one. I know that I am probably in the minority many are going to diagree with me on this. That I why I said it is just my opinion. To me, Ohio State University is just one of the eight D1-A football schools in the State of Ohio or 119 nationally. If you live here and you didn't go to a college, then okay, pick them as your team. I get that. If you went somewhere else, then that is your school and, as an alumni, you should feel obligated to give your alma mater 100% of your support. BuckZip, since you went to both schools, you are a very rare exception to the point that I am try to make and therefore you get a pass. again, I am not trying to offend you, or any former OSU students and I am sorry if I did. Also you and I both know that 90% of the Steeler and Yankee fans around here are not like your old Bengal friend from Akron. We both know that if the Steelers and Yankees had a history like the Bengals do, only a very small few of those folks would still be fans. Probably just the ones who moved here from Pittsburgh or the Bronx. I am starting to see a few more Bengal jerseys than I used to, but, for the most part, its probably because they are starting to win, or, they were too embarrased to wear it until recently. If the Browns and Indians had a long and sustained history of winning, we would see less of the fans around here wearing garb from other cities. If OSU had a football history like the other OSU (Oregon State). They would probably get a lot less support outside their alumni base as well. Sort of like us Akron folks. That is why we need to build a very strong Football program here so we can start attracting the casual fan who does not have a school and just wants to pick one. The new facilities and recent recruiting success are definitely a step in the right direction. And finally, although I would love to see the U of A continoue to grow and attract more students from the area, by no means do I believe that everyone, or even anyone in Northeast Ohio should attend Akron because it is here. I came to UA because it has an outstanding engineering, sciences, and technical curriculm and yes, because it is close to home. Absolutely A student should most definitey look out for what is in their best interests when choosing a school. If it is beneficial to study at more than one institution, then by all means do so.Go Zips! Lord, please choose us to be that 1 in 100 chance to win on September 8th. -
Desired future opponents at InfoCision Stadium?
Kangaroo Craig replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
I believe that. InfoCision Stadium could be designed to hold 100,000 and they would never play in it because their noses are too high in the air for that. I wouldn't want them here anyway because there would be too many front running Ohio MAC school grads rooting for them over the Zips. We all know those folks. They are no better than Steeler and Yankee fans who live in northeast Ohio and have been here their entire lives. -
Another good QB was Tom Swing. I knew him in high school. He started his career at Army and transferred to Akron to be close to his high school sweethart who he eventually married. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago while involved in an auto accident in Cleveland. I wouldn't rate him ahead of Mike Johnson, but he was pretty good.

Most Memorable Rubber Bowl Experience
Kangaroo Craig replied to g-mann17's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I vote for the Marshall game as well. That was quite a performance by Frye. A close #2 would have to be the snow bowl victory over Can't in 2005 that clinched the MAC East for us. However, I have a feeling that both of those are going to be outdone by the last home game of 2008 when we clinch another MAC East title and many of us remove our seats and take them with us as a momento (ala 1995 Browns vs. Bengals at the old municipal stadium). -
Patriot Bowl seats for Season Tix holders
Kangaroo Craig replied to doccomet87's topic in Akron Zips Football
Good point. Plus, there is not a bad seat in that place. I have upper deck, west endzone season tickets for the Browns and those seats are as good as anything the Rubber Bowl has to offer. Don't worry folks, you will be happy with your seats. -
Great story. He has definitely caught the eye of Mike Shanahan. It looks like he has a great shot at not only making the team, but also to see a good amount of playing time. Hard work and dedication will pay off for him.
-
Could that little building located in the north endzone be the donated facility that Jason Taylor was talking about adding? I also heard something at one time about The Winking Lizard putting a restaurant in the endzone. Maybe that is what this is?
-
Since the game starts at 7:00, I will probably try to get down there between 3:00 and 4:00. Will you have a recognizable marker so the nation knows where to go? What time does the airshow begin? I seem to remember in the past that those things started around 11:00 or 12:00. If so, I may try to get there much earlier. Thanks for the post!

I bought a jersey from them a couple of years ago. It is a very nice replica! For a small fee, they will imprint your name on the back. You can also choose whatever number you want. I think the total price was maybe $50+. Well worth the price!

On YSU....hang with me on this one...
Kangaroo Craig replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
eguins writes:How is it bad of us to turn you guys down if you can't come to Youngstown and play in front of a packed house; something we can guarentee. It's not like Stambaugh is ugly, we got 32 loges which are sold out every single year, how many do you have? We have a stunning Stadium Club and press box facility.According to the article posted by CK, Akron and Can't cannot play a home and home with a 1AA school. Apparently it is against MAC member rules. Here is the most important quote from that article:"The only way we would resume playing Akron and Can't would be on a home-and-home basis and their conference rules do not allow them to play away games at a non-I-A opponent," Strollo said.So there is the answer to why we will not play you at Stambaugh eguins. It has nothing to do with pride and everythiing to do with conferene rules. If you want a home and home game, your school is going to have to make the jump to 1-A. Do that, and we'll gladly play you guys every year. Remain in the Bush league and you can forget about us ever coming to your place. -
Another area that is growing rapidly is Stow and parts of Cuyahoga Falls. There are two new hotels at Rt8 and Steels corners with plans for a third one. There are also many new resturaunts in that area. Akron General is building a health center there with a full emergency facility and the Stow/Falls municipal court is also relocating to the north side of Steeles Corners road. Additionally, the Sheraton Falls is probably the best hotel in Summit County. So the bottom line is: There are plenty of nice places to stay close to Akron.A hotel that overlooks the new stadium would be nice, but can it survive other than the four to six nights a year that football is being played and maybe the dozen or so basketball games at the JAR? There are local businesses such as Goodyear and it might be convenient for them to put their out of town employess up for the night at a nearby hotel (As long as it is not too pricey). If I were a developer I would look at the failure of Quaker Square and that would give me reason for concern.
