Akron's Success Tide with County
Kangaroo Craig replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Akron Zips Football
The old coach is right. We would be dominating the MAC in recruiting if we had that stadium or even an announcement. We must make this thing official this year. Only then will we see our full potential.Agreed! -
I agree. It is also the reason why the Browns continue to lose to Pittsburgh and everyone else. Big physical teams that line up and smash their opponents in the mouth on every play are usually going to win the game barring turnovers and special teams miscues. This has been the model for the NFL. Run the ball effectively and shut down your opponents running game while physically wearing them out. Football is usually won and lost in the trenches.

Has your opinion changed? Playoff vs. Bowl System
Kangaroo Craig replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I agree with you XU. I would like to see a 16 team playoff, but only if it is set up so each 1A conference gets an automatic bid just like in basketball. I think there are about 11 1A conferences so that leaves the next five best at large teams for the other berths (ie. second place teams from ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 10, Notre Dame (If worthy)). You can still play the other second tier bowls by adding selected bowl eligible teams to fill, those slots. When you get down to the final eight there will be seven games left to determine the champion. designate those seven games to be played at the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and say maybe the Peach, Citrus, and Gator or Liberty. That way the bowls still get their money and so do the TV networks. -
Hi folks. I have been on vacation for the last couple of weeks and have been a little out of touch with the ongoings of Zip Nation. I have my tickets for the Motor City Bowl and I am planning on driving up Monday morning. I would very much like to meet all of you. Other than the Alumni festivities Is there going to be a pre-game party? If not, is there somewhere designated at or around Ford Field where we all can meet? I read on GoZips.com that they sold all of the tickets to the Alumni Party? I guess I won't be going to that unless someone knows how I can get a ducket. Hope to see you all on Monday. Best regards, Craig

Bowl Prediction and Analysis Pages
Kangaroo Craig replied to danalleman's topic in Akron Zips Football
I like being the underdog. Our team seems to play much better in that role. We haven't been getting any respect all year so it is no surprise that we aren't getting it now. -
According to New Mexico's website, they are headed to the Fort Worth Bowl. Due to the proximity to their campus, that one probably makes more sense for them. I have also seen by various prognosticators that Memphis may be considered as an opponent for the Zips. Although that would make for a good game, I would like to see us play against a higher profile school from a BCS conference. Hopefully there are enough BCS eligible schools to choose from.

Just out of curiosity I checked out New Mexico's website. It says there that they have accepted a bid to play in the Fort Worth Bowl.

Obviously you remember those from your days at the mental retardation school.

Good riddance! Please take WPIAL with you!

I say take the guaranteed money from the bowl and put it towards a long term contract deal for J.D. I read on another post here that UA would get about $700 - $800K from the Motor City Bowl. Raise his salary to half a million, 3/4 million, or even $1M per year and lock him up for 5 years. He's worth it! At the rate he is going, there will be a few more bowl games to pay for most of that salary. Plus, I think you'll see attendance at the RB really start to boom next year. At least I hope so. If this win and a bowl berth doesn't rally more fan support, I don't know what will.

This guy should send his resume to the Beacon. he would fit in well with those bunch of misfits.

You hit the nail right on the head. A good balanced attack on offense and a strong overall defense is the best recipe for success. Couple this with good play calling and it keeps your opponent on their heels and guessing all of the time.

Sour grapes! This guy must be a bitter Can't fan who has never even sniffed a MAC title game and never will. Huskies by 24? Who knows, maybe, but I doubt it. If the first meeting is any indication then the Zips will be heading back to Detroit after Christmas. How many of you guys received a call from the UA ticket office? They called today to ask if I was going to the game. I would assume that they are trying to contact all of the season ticket holders. That's an effecticve sales approach. We need the nation to show up 15 - 20,000 strong. Go Zips!

8:00 in the Tailgate Plus area.

Where did I ever imply that it did. As a fan, I would just like to see him play.
-
I signed it. Never realized how hard it is to sign your name with a mouse! My signature looks like $#!%. Oh well, its the effort that counts. Just like with the Zips, I have season tix to the Browns. Nothing would please me more right now than to see him get some experience.

Bowling Green (5-2): Can clinch with a victory at Toledo or a loss by Akron to Can't State. A Bowling Green loss and an Akron victory would eliminate the Falcons. Akron (4-3): Must defeat Can't State and Bowling Green would have to lose to Toledo. Akron holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Bowling Green. A loss would eliminate the Zips. MAC West Northern Illinois (5-2): Will clinch the MAC West with a victory against Western Michigan. A loss would eliminate the Huskies. Toledo (5-2): Needs to defeat Bowling Green and for Western Michigan to defeat Northern Illinois. A loss eliminates Toledo. Western Michigan (5-2): Must defeat Northern Illinois and needs Toledo to lose to Bowling Green. A loss or a Toledo victory would eliminate Western Michigan.

I spoke to a very reliable source last night in the Tailgate Plus area who said that the new stadium will be in operation by 2009.

The Zips poor seeding is all about money. The NCAA wants to play all of these games in places where they can generate the most revenue. This is not the first time this has happened and it will not be the last. If you look at other sports over the last 20 years or so, the same thing happens. The school with the bigger arena or stadium, and larger fan base always gets the opportunity to host. Is it fair? Absolutely not! I think there is plenty of evidence out there to prove that the NCAA screws smaller schools in favor of the almighty dollar. I believe a percentage of the total revenue from everyone of their sponsored tournaments funnels right back to the NCAA. Also, the NCAA is controlled by the major conferences who want to see to it the the rich keep on getting richer. I would like to see all of the smaller schools who have been screwed by them in the past, file a class action suit against them for billions. Until that happens, the Akron's of the world will continue to get screwed.

I'll be there bright and early in spot 11 hosting the Greek Alumni tent. We'll be serving beer and brats for breakfast. Go Zips!

3 and 0, but only on to Ford Field if Miami drops one of its last three. I believe they would have the tie breaker against the Zips by virtue of their victory over them. They have home games against Buffalo and Bowling Green and a road contest at Ohio. BG has away games at Can't and Miami and a home game with Toledo. Ohio has the toughest remaining schedule with home games against Toledo and Miami and a road game against the Zips. Of the four teams in contention, the Zips have the easiest schedule with a road game at Ball State followed by home contests against Ohio and Can't.

Was it just me, or did it seem like the 10,000 or so on our side of the field Saturday were just sitting on their hands most of the game. Zippy did his best to get folks fired up, but not much response. I understand that offensively there was nothing to cheer for, but the defensive needs support and they should be credited for good plays as well. It was embarrasing to see a few hundred cadets on the other side that were three times as loud as we were. If you were listening on the radio you would have thought that the attendence was less than 3,000.

The Official Start John Ferguson Thread
Kangaroo Craig replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Getsy did suck on Saturday, but so did the offensive line. I would agree that Ferguson should get a shot. I would also agree that maybe some of the young linemen should be given opportunities to play as well. -
Moving on to the Red Hawks
Kangaroo Craig replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I believe it is already over for them. They are two losses behind BG. If they beat Akron on Saturday then all that will do is eliminate another contender. This is also a must win for Akron! The Zips, like the Red Hawks, will be playing for their bowl lives on Saturday. Yeah I know if we lose this one, beat BG, and BG loses to Toledo, it can be a three or four way tie (Ohio U), but I don't see that happening. I think J. D. will have the boys playing with a sense of urgency on Saturday.
