Let'sGoZips94 replied to zipsrule's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I posted a couple threads ago asking if Shokalook is the greatest goal scorer in Akron history. I was told emphatically "no". I am rephrasing my question/statement. Shokalook is the greatest goal scorer in my lifetime. -
It's a blast watching the media have to eat crow after portraying Deion as a loud-mouth, flashy punky for so many years. The dude may be the hardest worker in sports, and his standards are standards that every human being should live by. Be you. Treat others with respect and kindness. Establish discipline and work ethic. Be a positive member in society. I believe he is at work around 4-5am, vacuums his own office, etc. He cares about his players as if they were his own sons. He brought the female staff into a meeting to make sure the team knew that any mistreatment of those ladies would not be tolerated. People who hate him don't like molds being broken. That's exactly what Deion is doing - breaking the mold. Who knew you could be flashy and still be a decent human being. Colorado over 3.5 wins this year was an easy bet I took. I believe in Deion. Look out for Colorado as long as he's there (which I think will be a while).

I was watching one of the collegiate eSports events earlier this year. They highlighted one of Akron's players and did a full montage of him for his last event. They talk about Akron in the collegiate eSports world like Bama in football or Duke in basketball. It's pretty wild. Also, it's just natural for the Soccer Kings to be good at virtual car soccer, too.

This is JoeMo's program now. Period. He had the Arth shield last year, but not anymore. The incompetent football we're witnessing is solely on the coaches. The job of a coach is to put their player(s) in positions to succeed. These coaches aren't doing that. You have talent at WR, but they're getting the ball going towards the sideline. You have QBs that are struggling, but are being asked to make the toughest throws in football - deep sideline throws, either in the out-route capacity or up the field. They're also being asked to do this behind a porous offensive line, and very little run game help simply due to a lack of volume (coaching). If there are easier reads that are being missed, it is your job as a coach to reign the QB in, and simplify the game for him. You give them 2 reads. If the first read isn't there, they go to the second read. Keep the reads short and easy so the QB can get the ball in the hands of his playmakers. I'm not going to say much about the defense today. They've been the reason we've had any type of optimism this year. I call him Joe Arth now because the talent is clearly upgraded, but the schemes and execution are dog 💩. Honestly, maybe worse than Arth given the talent Moorehead has vs. Arth. This is unwatchable football on the offensive side of the ball, and we have a head coach that is supposed to be an offensive wizard. Don't do interviews and say, "I could've gone elsewhere - NFL, P5, etc. - but I chose Akron," like we're some sort of charity you're volunteering for, then not deliver a lick on Saturdays. It's awesome if you deliver; doesn't sit well if you don't. For the record, I'm not on the fire JoeMo bandwagon. Reality is he is our coach through the end of his contract. All I'm asking for is competent, competitive football on Saturdays. Please deliever, JoeMo.

Not exactly looking forward to his recap of this Super Dog pick next week. "I said that Undercuffler was a DAWG. I should've said Akron would get dog-walked cause that's exactly what happened. Undercuffler didn't start the game and Moorehead was an embarrassment to Yinzers everywhere."
-
Nah, wouldn't go that far. What that coach did to those kids and families is pretty heinous. JoeMo is at least a good person.
-
I said "find a Sean Lewis," meaning we need to find a young person with the offensive brain power that succeeds at the D1 level to use us as a stepping stone. Barring a complete 180 in the offensive scheme, JoeMo is proving to be a fraud in the "offensive genius" department that our fan base was sold on. Maybe the talent he was able to utilize covered for his flaws at PSU, Miss St., and Oregon - who the hell knows. This is so damn disappointing because it's no longer about talent (maybe at the QB level - maybe); our flaws are entirely coaching/scheme related.
-
No. Just because this program since Bowden has been hot garbage, it doesn't mean staying with Bowden was the answer. How do we find a Sean Lewis?
-
Joe Arth is real.
-
I'm starting to really struggle with the "offensive genius" of JoeMo. We ask our QBs to make the most difficult throws in football WAY too often. He is allergic to calling pass plays over the middle.
-
Never. Attempt. A. FG. Again.
-
Don't ask questions. Just be happy common sense is being applied.
-
Bullock.
-
Did DePaul play with their entire team, bench, and coaching staff in the box the entire game?
-
That's a pretty big swing, especially for an underdog like Akron. Points to a key position, like QB. Bullock time...?
-
Did Vegas get word of these rumblings? DK was over +200 yesterday. +170 today.
-
Stefanski would have a conniption. If Tahj starts, I'm all in again.
-
If this is true - oh my. This is part of the reason the fat will get trimmed in these conferences, and the bottom portions of the current power conferences will end up at the G5 level. The G5s will be kept around to supplement "easy" W's for the remaining power conference schools as their conference schedules become legitimate gauntlets.

Is Shokalook the best goal scorer we've ever had? -
Valid.
-
Am I correct that this is Underthrower's last year of eligibility? If that's the case, with the way this season has started, we need to turn to Bullock, Wasel, Jankowski, or Jennings. Let's get these guys real game experience and prepped for next year. Gotta figure out what we have in those 3.
-
Salt in the wound after watching Stefanski put his Wish.com-purchased Ivy League degree to good use...
-
Yeah it's not very difficult. The little things aren't being done, and the creativity isn't there to put butts in seats even with a losing program. Kent had 13,000 at their game and they blow. Akron had 5,000. There are ways to get the fans to feel like their part of the program without a winning product on the field. Akron attire is entirely too expensive as well. It's embarrassing what they charge for their gear in the team shop. The program became stagnant, had discipline issues, and the offense wasn't much better in year 7 of Bowden than what we're witnessing in year 2 with JoeMo. Bowden never got rid of Milwee, so Akron got rid of Bowden.
-
This is so damn true. The combination of the Catalina Wine Mixer atmosphere (suits walking around shaking hands, kissing babies) combined with a Rick Pitino recruiting trip (night club music constantly played) is not a good mix for a college football gameday. The stadium announcer continues to be awful. The marketing is stale. And the football is awful. I've been quite complimentary of Guthrie up to this point, but he is missing some key details to elevate the Akron experience.

6'5" SG from Cincy Moeller. Not seeing other offers. Looks pretty athletic. Also looks taller/longer than 6'5".
