Do you really trust JoeMo to dial up a play that would've been successful? Not sure if you heard the beginning of the broadcast. Akron has the 2nd most red zone visits in the MAC, but a HORRIBLE conversion rate. 3 plays from the 3 yd line and the ball never advanced an inch. What's the point of having MJ as a backup QB if you aren't gojng to bring him in on the goal line to at least keep the defense on their toes.

Don't forget that Carney is 10x the coach JoeMo is, and he was an interim 3 weeks ago (I also don't think Carney is that good; he's a much better motivator though).

Their issue was picking fruit one too many times from the Bobby Hurley/Nate Oats coaching tree. Eventually, the fruit soured with Whitesell and it killed all the momentum with their program. This is the exact reason why hiring Groce was such a big hire for Akron to sustain what KD had built. Canada's South Campus doesn't have a very strong athletics backing, so unless they strike gold with coaching hires (they've done well in football, too), they'll always find themselves with a middle of the MAC ceiling at best.

Kent has NIL, too, which I only know about thanks to the series of Pinky's Pathetic Promos this offseason where we saw a sad clown beg for money essentially after being rejected by Fordham (allegedly).

Kent plays 2 true road games OOC and there aren't any quality opponents outside of Purdue. Sendy really giving his team the Charmin Ultra Soft treatment.

UNCW won't end up very high in KenPom or NET. Not a very good team. Kent will fold the moment they play a good, athletic defense.

Kent is not a good defensive team. They will only go as far as their shooting. Safford is banged up again this year.

I turned it on with 4 minutes to go in the half. Kent was at 38 pts, up by 18. They finished with 43 pts and are up by 9. This will be a very interesting second half. Also, Kent's ESPN+ announcers are atrocious.

Pay attention to Purdue's game vs Bama. Arguably their best player, Trey Kauffman-Renn, was a game time decision with a hip issue before ultimately sitting out vs Oakland. Even if he plays vs Bama, Purdue has Memphis after Akron and I could see him resting a bit vs Akron.
