  1. the biggest problem with the mac is the tv money.i think each teams gets less than 1 million.plusforced to play on weeknights which kills the fanbase.as long as akron is in the mac we will never have great program.when teams get at least 10x the tv money you cannot compete long term.
  2. you never know about new guys coming in.some of them look bad the first year or two.then they end up really improving. look at conyers jimmy really came on his sr year.i think the important thing is not to give up on a guy if he does not do well the first two years.i really don't know what to expect from green.i lived in columbus for five years.i went to enough high school games, and played enough pick up games with alott of high school players.there is alott of talented b-ball players in columbus.some of these guy's get overlooked by some power conferences for different reasons.gary trent ended up at ou because of grades, but played high school ball in the bus.if kd gave this guy a offer then i trust him enouh to know talent when he sees it.
  3. i have seen this kid listed from 6'6 to 6'8. it's sounds like he has major small forward skills.he would be a tuff match up for alott of teams in the mac.the major question is can he play defense.kd won't play anyone unless they can defense. i give kd credit for bringing in this kid.i really hope the kid makes it.the question i have once again when can he play? does he have to sit out this year? the only concern i have along with some other people is the pg spot.i think we will be ok for next year.after that who knows.
  4. when would this kid be eligble? we will be fine a pg this year.roberts,or mc neese an play the position.im not saying they are the best pg's in the mac.they are good enough to win with.mc neese would play point with roberts at sg.roberts could play pg if something happens to mc neese.hopedully the kid kd brought in can give us some pt at point guard. if he can then we will be in great shape.if he his not ready to play then things become more difficult.
  5. why would you invite the guy from the bcs.they don't want to give the non bcs teams any $ at all,but they had to.they would rather have all the non bcs teams in the sub bowl divison ;so they would not have to give them a dime.you know it p.o. the bcs when they had to let tcu,and boise play into a bcs game.they would not give them a shot at any other bcs teams though.they would be giving $ to non bcs teams because they were forced to.it took a threat from orin hatch of congress even to let these type of games happen at all.if not you would of never seen this game.
  6. i have watched enough of akron losing to mac teams. we beat one d-1 team last year.if you hire a new coach you need to give the time to build a competitve team.the one game that really showed the lack of talent was the temple game.we looked like a high school team.i do think we have a good d-line,and some decent lb.we have a good qb.we have no rb unless allen comes back 100%.one decent wr,and our o-line played terrible last year.if he can turn things around in year one that's great.i just think it's unfair to expect a new coach to have winning season this year.i really did not like the hire of RI,but now that's he is here we need to give the guy a fair chance.
  7. when you have two wins last season akron is in a rebuilding mode.just watch some bcs bowl games. from watching texas tech play boise there is big difference in team speed especially on defense. some people thought jd was a bad coach, but had some talent on the field.the only place akron has some players is on the d-line,and one linebacker.our offense was terrible.the qb is going to be good, but he cannot throw the ball to himself.until RI gets some speed on defense akron is going nowhere. i think our defense was competitive last year, but did not have any help from he offense. i jus don't think jd left enough talent to win more then 3-4 games.maybe allen comes back 100% which will help, and the d-line can carry the team for the first few games.if not this will be along season.
  8. doesn't this leave us thin at pg/sg.does diggs play sg? i think our front line should have good depth if one,or two of the freshman can get some pt.if mc neese,or roberts gets hurt we are in big trouble. i think we have alott of options in the frontline.even bardo could play the center spot for 5-10 min. nik can play center if needed.
  9. the bottom line is this.the big ten makes 242 million on tv revenu.this is exactly like baseball.the mac will never compete against the big ten on a yearly basis.sure cmu beat michigan state last year.thats one game.no big ten team has beat osu.penn state has beat up on mac teams in the last few years.the bottom line is we got pounded by indiana which is one of the worst teams in the big ten.when there is that much difference in money it shows the bcs is out to get rid of the lower conference schools.
  10. does anybody know when all the new players are eligble? i know b-ball is a little different than football.in football if you transfer you have to sit out a full year.do we get any of these guys after the break.
  11. i think diggs is the fifth recruit.i looked at his stats, and nothing stood out at me.hopefully the guy can play some defense on the larger guards/small forwards.at least the guy has played college b-ball.he averaged about 14 min a game.
  12. i saw a thread where arkon was looking at a 6-6 quincy diggs guard for new orleans.i guess they dropped thier b-ball program? don't know how much truth there is to this.maybe this is what kd was speaking about.it would be nice to have a 6-6 guard that can play defense.
  13. the occ schedule is going to be to difficult.i think the zips finish 4-8.
  14. i am glad somebody (zipwatcher) feels like i do about the b-ball program.the fans throw every loss that happened over the last five years.they forget how many games we won,and that we just went to the tourney last year. we only won one out four championship games; so we must need a new coach.they always take a team like butler and try to find a way for the zips to magically do the same thing. Can't went to the final eight.they have not won a ncaa game since.butler is one of 330 teams in the ncaa.with only 64 bids a team will go to the ncaa every 5 1/2 years.butler may not even make the ncaa next year.coaches leaving for more $ to power conferences happens all the time to schools like butler. my point is that just because a team did something great this year does not mean they will be doing the same thing next year.the way the ncaa is set up makes it difficult for non bcs schools just to get in the tourney. akron needs to be akron. if somebody thinks they can do a better job coaching akron b.ball fax your resume to the a.d.
  15. i guess there are few ways fans look at the team.jd was bad coach, but did leave talent to compete right away in the mac. jd was a decent coach, but did not recruit well the last few years. i don't know if you could to say he was a bad coach, and cold not recruit.he did win a mac championship;so he had to have done something right in the first few years he was here. i personally don't think he left much talent on this team to compete next year.i hate the idea of waiting four years to be competitve, but we may not have any choice.hopefully we will see alott of improvement every year.we lost almost all the recievers.not really sure what to expect out of the rb postion.plus we are changing both offense, and defense. gp i hope you are right and we can complete right away.i just think the occ schedule is not going to easy. maybe when the mac rolls around we can be competitive? even a 6-6 season would be great for this team.
  16. if allen is back that would help the rb postion alott.he is the only back with some power that akron has. hopefully the new defense 4-3 will help stop the run,and get some presure on the qb. after watching the boise state/texas tech bowl game there is huge difference on team speed. the back seven of both teams defense made akron look like they are in slow motion. i realize both teams were playing in a bcs bowl.if akron wants to get anywhere that level they need find faster lbs'-dbs'.i just don't think jd left much talent for this coach.the good thing is we play in the mac.
  17. last years defense looked like a high school team.the 3-3-5 for jd meant to play 8 guys under 200 lbs. if you think you can win with guys under 200 pounds playing db-lb i guess last year was ok. this team needs to get bigger, and stonger to stop teams like temple from running the ball up and down the field. having team speed is nice. that does not help when a 200 lb is going up against a 300 ol. when the rb is going up the middle.
  18. it's funny how in football some posters would be happy with a 5-7 record.kd wins alomst 70% of his games, but that's not good enough.i have always said there is a double standard with mens football compared to men's b-ball. plus we just put ton of $ into football for a few wins a year.i don't want to hear that this coach inherited a bunch of bad players.we heard the same thing when faust took over for dennison/owens took over for l.o./jd took over for l.o. that's nice that torrence left.he can't play for akron, but will probably end up at a big ten school. i realize in any business when new management comes in people leave.good managers try to keep the people with potential at the company.it's not like we have a.johnson, alex allen of a few years ago,and kennedy back at t.b. i am not saying this guy won't be a good coach;so i don't like when talented players leave though.
  19. if i read that right i am glad we are changing to a 4-3 defense.i never liked the 3-3-5.we had to many undersized players on the field.sewell will be a stud d-lineman once again.moving lemon to DE should help also.i still don't think this team does not have alott of talent, but changing back to the 4-3 should help.i did not think our defense played that bad in certain games.when you offense is not scoring points, and your defense is on the feild all day are two big problems. hopefully we can out out some bigger guys on the field this year.
  20. steve is a two guard.when he plays point he get the ball over the time line, and that's about it.he never penatrates the lane. plays with his back to the defender all the time.he is better for akron as a two guard where he can come of screens for three point shots.kd has a point guard in humpty, but for whatever reason they had some issues.maye with zeke at center it will take pressure off all the guards now.the first option should be to try to get the ball to zeke.he can shoot or pass the ball back out for open jump shots.i don't kd did a good job of coaching the ball movement of this team.
  21. i hope this kid can give us some min at the 3 spot.we need somebody to replace jimmy conyers at the 3. we would have a frontline of mc night, zeke, nik with egner helping out the frontline players.if he could give us 10 min a game of solid defense with a little offense that would be fine.i know alott of zips are worried about our guards.i am more worried about the frontline depth because right now we don't have any.we really need two of the freshman to play min,but absolutley have to have one of them step up.if not bardo would be the next guy for alott of min.i am not saying that is bad.i think bardo could back up zeke 10 mn a game, and be fine. we could also go with a three guard offense in certain situations.we could have three guards with nik,and zeke out there.i just think this team will be kd's hardest job yet.with humpty, steve, roberts,mc clanhan, steward we should be fine.i just wish we went more up tempo with these guys.a little full court pressure would not hurt. you have five guards so why not use them all.dakota looks to me more like a four-five player.he can step out and make some three's which will help.i have not seen anything on green yet.
  22. use common logic.a layup is easier to make than a foul shot.a foul shot is easier to make than a 3pt shot. a longer 3 pt shot is harder to make than one that is closer to the basket.just because there are a few mid majors in the tourney does not mean anything.the farther away you are to shoot a shot the less the % you will make. if it's a non factor then why don't teams just shoot from half court every time.
  23. thanks skip-zip.you are right on.
  24. there are 330 teams so if you take 96 you are taking the top 1/3 of the b-ball teams.i don't think that's watered down. i think that would be a good thing.maybe if they had 96 teams akron would have better chance of making the big dance.with 64 teams we are one bid leauge.with 96 maybe we are.no would no until it happens.i just know right now only one mac team makes the big dance.kaorn has nothing to lose by going with 96 teams.
  25. why are you attacking me.i was just making a post.my point is that if you don't have the 3pt line mid majors would have a harder time to beat top teams.the last time i checked making a layup is easier than shooting a foul shot.shooting a foul shot is easier than shooting a 3 pt shot.the farther you go out from the basket the lower %.
