I brought up eminent domain when I said that holdouts can be delt with through the city (most eminent domain action occurs at the local level), but MY point was that some of it could have been avoided if the University had very quietyly made offers to the land owners before a "campus stadium" become a public issue. Under those circumstances, most of the landowners would have accepted offers at a small fraction above appraised value. Now, it may be too late, and holdouts are going to try to score what they think is the jackpot.

well, I remember saying 7 months ago when we were having our stadium threads here how I would very very quiety approach land owners, and that anything public would be detrimental to the ability of the university aquire the land without great prospecting and gouging from the current owners. A land owner who at one time would have accepted 10-25% over appraised value, once he hears that the University covets their land for a large project, will double or triple their price.I'm not genius or real estate expert. That's just common sense / human nature.They should have kept it close to their vest, and my suspicion is that they did, and all remaining landowners are straggler holdouts who can be dealt with through the city.

Maybe JD loves it here but would never screw himself out of a bigtime coaching job somewhere else in a few years by resigning a new deal with Akron for, let's say, 25% more than he makes now...Unless of course, the contract gives JD an option to be released from the contract at any time, then he'd love the raise, but it does nothing to make us feel better.Using the earlier Thome situation as an example. Maybe Thome didn't want to re-sign with the indians. Maybe he wanted to be a free agent. Or atleast, maybe the Indians were offering him 8M/yr to re-sign, but his agent was telling him he would easily get 11M as a free agent. Why would he renogiate for the 8M. Even if he wanted to stay with Cleveland (which he obviously didn't), he knows that he could probably get 10M out of Cleveland by becoming a free agent first.

It was in the news in 2005 which schools Akron Public Schoosl would be closing. It was also on their website.It hasn't been a secret, and I'm sure the University has known about it. They may have already moved on plans to aquire it.

I think our goal should be to put together consitently winning programs and capture the interest of the NEOhio media market whose only collegiate interests currently gaze down state. It wont be easy, but it is do-able, particularly if we start beating BCS teams and getting NCAA tourney bids.A big conference transfer will come after our athletic programs/department and our campus starts looking more like a Big Conference School.

That was my first thought.I keep hearing about QBs coming to Akron. All of them but one must sit. Depth is great, but at some point, you got to worry about morale. Are these guys all going to be happy no playing?
