  1. ABJ (GT): Zips quarterback Kato Nelson holds keys to victory over Central Michigan “I was just impressed with his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands as a runner and also really work through his progression,” Bonamego said of Nelson, a sturdy 6-foot-1 and 215-pounder. “He’s not a stare-down quarterback. ... He has a really strong arm and he can fit the ball through some tight windows.” -CMU head coach John Bonamego.
  2. Nice article on Jamal Davis. ABJ: Jamal Davis casts eye on winning, leaving legacy
  3. I agree. I'm glad he's ambitious and driven... but we've got a looooong way to go.
  4. ABJ (GT): Kato Nelson's development continues against Kent State I did appreciate the moxie Kato demonstrated at the end of the game & overtime. He definitely wants the ball in his hands in crunch time. He hit on 54% of his throws. Considering the weather Bowden was good with that. Otherwise he'd like to see 60%.
  5. What a fantastic hire! I caught 1350, 1480 & 1590 & 100.1 all talking about it yesterday. It was all over my twitter feed as well. This has kicked my excitement for Zips baseball up a few notches. ABJ (Bournival): Zips coach Chris Sabo ready to 'build a good legacy here' That trail (recruiting trail) will burn up Interstates 71, 77, 76 and the Ohio Turnpike as Sabo will focus locally first and take advantage of an area rich in baseball tradition. We have to convince them (recruits) that Akron is the place to be. This is going to be the Ohio baseball school. Love the enthusiasm. This guy really seems to have the attitude and personality of a Caleb Porter.
  6. Great story! Precisely why there should be no athletics budget. Athletics expenditures should be lumped under Marketing. Go Zips!
  7. His twitter page is still there. He last tweeted on Oct. 17 when he retweeted Eric Parrish's announcement he was committing to Nevada. All looks Kosher on his page. I'd post the link but I was previously asked not to post links to players personal social media pages on ZN.o. But you can look for yourself, his twitter handle is @ericdhester6
  8. I also heard he’s not eligible till January. But that’s all I know.
  9. ABJ: For Akron, overtime win over Kent State could flip season in right direction With the Zips leading 10-3 with less than a minute left in the first half, coach Terry Bowden rolled the dice and looked to put at least one nail in the Golden Flashes’ coffin. Instead, KSU cornerback Darryl Marshall picked off Nelson’s pass with 49 seconds left in the half, providing his offensive teammates a much-needed lift from their own 24-yard line. Flush with adrenaline, quarterback Woody Barrett led a five-play, 76-yard drive capped by his 22-yard, read-option run up the gut of the UA defense, which was without starting middle linebacker Brian Bell. Bowden took the bullet for that call. He said he made a vow to be aggressive for this game, understanding what was at stake. He can’t be faulted for doing exactly what’s been needed to spark an offense that’s barely learned to walk at this point, especially in a rivalry game that could flip the Zips’ fortunes.
  10. I was on the #FireBowden bandwagon for about 10 days. Last night I jumped off. -We've won 4-straight vs KSUcks. -I'm very happy with our recruiting (which is HUGE). (Thank you, Coach Mounds.) -We're in the running for our 3rd bowl game in 4 years. Akron football is at a level it's never been before. But still... I just want more. Something just feels... off. I hate our under-achieving offense & desperately want to see something shook up. #DemoteMilwee
  11. That roughing the passer penalty should have never been called. Football & the refs have to figure out what's going on. Idk, maybe this belongs in the "We'll Always Have Football" thread, but the sport's in a strange place right now.
  12. Newman Williams actually caught the ball & survived a tackle without getting injured ?
  13. It was earlier today, actually. anyone have any inside information on how we looked?
  14. And Zippy is definitely male. Lol
  15. ABJ (GT): Season on the line for Zips as they face cross-county rival They’ve dug themselves a hole with that 0-2 conference start and adding another “L” to that tally at this stage of the season would all-but end their hopes of repeating as East Division champs... But UA has been playing flat football — at least on the offensive side of the ball... They had a group of inexperienced receivers and an offensive line that needed work and has since been hit with a season-ending injury to a starter... ^^After six recruiting classes that's an excuse, not a reason. It's Kent Week & I'm meh and I hate it. At least GT's not mincing words: They haven’t reached the end zone as an offense in six quarters, the last touchdown coming on defense. Offensively, they’ve been anemic.
  16. ABJ (GT): Zips preparing to dig themselves out of hole in conference play The proof of that lack of production is in the numbers for UA. They rank 124th nationally in overall offense and 110th in scoring offense with 23.2 points per game... Until they can find the groove for their anemic running game — which ranks 117th in the country averaging 111.4 yards a game... Have to hand it to the team for this: The good thing for the Zips right now is that no one is pointing fingers. If anything, the[y] continue to show a certain resolve.
  17. So what's up with our side? Just inconsistency due to youth?
  18. Keep Otis Mounds & a few others to keep the recruiting class corralled while bringing in the New HC. You can do that, right?
  19. Those were one of my favorites!
  20. +1. Without Davis' monster game at Northwestern we'd be 1-4.
  21. Likewise. BGSU now has quite the head start on us.
