You know what really grinds my gears? It's that Joe Akron was relatively out in force on Saturday. I've been waiting for 25+ years for Akron to embrace their team & I was very happy with the crowd on Saturday. GoZips.com has the game's attendance listed at 22,437. I doubt it was that high, but it was a nice crowd & the Zippers barely gave them anything to get excited about... even to the point of getting blow out... by Miami?!?!
-
I noticed that too. We played like crap after Davis' injury.

ABJ (GT): Miami pulls away to beat Zips 41-17 in MAC opener Van Edwards rushed for 6 yards on 4 carries. ? “Obviously, you don’t want to lose one of your best linemen,” Bowden said of Council’s absence. “We’ll have to look at the video, but I don’t know if that’s the whole thing. We’re a little bit thin there [offensive line] right now.” After six (?) recruiting classes, who's fault is that?

I've seen this plotline so, so, so many times. Nice crowd... Great weather... Zips lay an egg ?

We had 2 weeks to prepare for Miami...??

Nice crowd. We need something to get excited about.

+1. Now a long, sustained drive by Miami :/

Glad he's not interested in returning to the college game.

And I had missed counting a player. We're actually scheduled to have sixteen players on scholarship next season.
-
You're right! Here's an article from the Dayton Daily News stating he'll have one year of eligibility left. I'll edit my above post. That gives us a very senior-laden class next season. 1. Man is our roster stacked with athleticism 2. Out of all of next season's listed Juniors and Seniors, the only player I can presently envision transferring would be Mark Kostelac.
-
Yeah that's why I brought it up.

@ZipWatcher, would you mind taking the time to update the scholarship chart? Next year it's getting confusing again with Ivey being our only senior we'll be losing and us bringing in three players - 1 JUCO product who will be a Junior (Camron Reece), one prep school product who should be a Sophomore (Mikal Dawson) and one high school senior who will of course be a true Freshman (Ali Ali). That should fill out next year's on-scholarship roster with: Seniors: 7 (Daniel Utomi, Tyler Cheese, Deng Riak, Channel Banks, Jeremy Roscoe, E-man Olojakpoke, Xeyrius Williams) Juniors: 6 (Camron Reece, Loren Cristian Jackson, Eric Hester, LePear Toles, Jaden Sayles, Mark Kostelac) Sophomores: 2 (Mikal Dawson, Khadim Gueye) Freshmen: 1 (Ali Ali) Total: 16

Now my weather app says sunny & 82 ?

I think I saw Brady get his bell rung during the ISU game. Like Zach stated above, last week was a perfect week for a bye. I hope Brady's alright & ready to wreck havoc in the MAC!
-
Yeah, you were right. Just noticed GoZips.com has Lucas back on the roster.
-
Yeah, almost certainly a Junior. GoZips dot com has Channel Banks listed as a Junior & Camron is taking the same rout to UA via Sheridan C.C.

Dude likes to finish at the rim!

Kent looked bad yesterday. It's difficult to tell just by watching tv, but it didn't appear either the coach nor the team was as fired up as they were the first week -vs- Illinois. Maybe the honeymoon period is wearing off? Plus, Kent's new coach likes to run the uptempo, hurry-up offense. When it's working it's great, but when it's not, it'll exhaust your own D. We witnessed that with the Zips during Bowden's first year. Kent's up tempo worked well against Illinois, but you saw their D get worn down in the 2nd half -vs- Penn State. Maybe now that there's film out there of what Kent likes to do, they're starting to get curb stomped again? Idk, I still like their QB & think we're gonna have to bring our B+ game to beat them in 2 weeks.

I'm going with... EMU Buffalo Kent Toledo TCU Purdue

+1. If we win the MAC East this year it won't be by backing in. Our schedule is tough. We're gonna have to bring our A game to beat Buffalo and I'm afraid we're gonna have to bring our B+ game to beat Kent, NIU, EMU & Ohio. That's asking for quite a few well-played games without a let down. Fortunately, our team's strength is on the D side of the ball & it looks like those guys are hungry to rumble every week.

One thing I've noticed is that there hasn't been much (any?) complaining about Milwee's play calling after the first three games. I don't complain about play calling much, simply because that's above my pay grade. But other, more knowledgeable posters have consistently been less-than-thrilled with some of the game's Milwee's called. Do you guys see growth here? We could have won the ISU game if Kato were a little more accurate with his passes (12-28 IIRC). I thought (as far as I could tell) it was a well called offensive game & a handful of times we had receivers open & simply missed them. Edwards at running back, I feel, is another impediment to the O's potential production. I feel more qualified in sizing up running backs, and Van really doesn't do it for me. I don't believe I've ever seen him make a guy miss or break a tackle. Bowden can sometimes be loyal to a fault & I think we're seeing this Achilles heel again with his insistence on keeping Van #1. I used to think Bowden's loyal-to-a-fault thinking was what was keeping Milwee at OC, but maybe not...?

Nice Spark game summary

ABJ (Associated Press): Zips stymied by Iowa State defense in 26-13 loss Worthless article. I've never been real high on Van Edwards at RB, so this stat struck me: "...until the Zips develop a consistent running game, the going could be tough. UA ran the ball 31 times for 91 yards against Iowa State with 56 of those yards coming from Nelson."
