  1. Meh, at least we're finally getting press. Lol.
  2. http://www.cantonrep.com/article/20151018/SPORTS/151019334 (Again, I cannot get pages 2-4 to open. Anyone else having that problem?)
  3. http://www.cantonrep.com/article/20150923/SPORTS/150929763 (I can't get page 2 to open. Anyone else having that problem? It may be my Safari browser?)
  4. Depressing game. Excellent photography!!!
  5. Triple-Double Prospects has Isaiah Williams rated as the 4th best power forward in the state of Ohio's class of 2016. http://tripledoubleprospects.com/2016-player-rankings/
  6. Triple-Double Prospects has Jordan Davis ranked as the 5th best center in Ohio for the class of 2016. http://tripledoubleprospects.com/2016-player-rankings/
  7. Coolest picture I've seen in a while. No wonder the team is so tightly-knit. https://instagram.com/p/8000Idht6F/ Go Zips!
  8. Okay, we discuss this from time-to-time, but I'm obviously slow on the uptake. I'm confused about this. We have 13 scholarships to hand out. Currently all 13 are used. After this year we lose Reggie McAdams, Jake Kretzer and Pat Forsythe. That opens up THREE scholarships for next year. But we've got FIVE verbal commits for next year: Craig Eubanks, Tavian Dunn-Martin, Isaiah Williams, Jordan Davis, and Michael Hughes. That puts us 2 over the limit. What gives? Everyone on the current roster seems quite happy being a Zip. The only player I could see possibly transferring elsewhere to look for more playing time is Aaron Jackson, but he seems to simply love being on the team. I just don't see how the numbers work out.
  9. Jerome Lane, our very own Megatron
  10. Good preseason practice report from GT of the ABJ. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/university-of-akron-men-s-basketball-zips-hopeful-of-another-successful-season-as-practice-begins-1.631786#
  11. Another obvious aspect about Van Edwards that I failed to mention is that he looks quite a bit faster than either Hundley or Alexander. He's got more home run potential than either of our current 2-deep.
  12. I'm loving Coney too. Dude is fearless. He catches the ball in traffic, is a little cocky, and not afraid to get lit up.
  13. Is anyone as impressed and excited about RB/KR Van Edwards Jr. as I am? He's the most competent KR man I've seen in a number of years for the Zips. He's fearless, doesn't shy from contact, runs relatively powerfully and explosively north-and-south, and exhibits a lot of shiftiness and good field vision. I think he's looked good in the very few carries I've seen of him from the RB position this season - I was hoping he'd get more PT in the EMU blowout. He's well-built @ 5-9 & 185 and will probably come in next season at 190. I was worried about the RB position next season when we lose Hundley and Alexander, but now I think we're gonna be in good shape. http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2015-16/bios/Edwards_Van
  14. I saw that. Kinda strange.
  15. And this recruit is for the 2017 season, but I'm thrilled that we've offered him already: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4060027/weston-bridges RB Weston Bridges of Copley. He's absolutely the real deal. RB, 6'1", 200 lbs., 4.46 40YD dash
  16. Here's a kid I hope we're looking at: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3726123/treon-vance Tre'on Vance of Canton McKinley. He's been playing well & almost single-handedly beat GlenOak the other night (GlenOak held on to beat McK.) WR, DB, 6'2", 171 lbs., 4.49 40-yard dash.
  17. With the verbal of Michael Hughes, is Jordan Davis still a future Zip?
  18. Dude looks chiseled. 6'8", 270? That's bigger than Hulk Hogan!
  19. That is a good question from EA's article. 2. Dambrot has traditionally shared the wealth on his deep teams, playing a lot of players big minutes. While the value of that showed in Jackson's emergence last season after Robotham was injured, the down side was Reggie McAdams and Pat Forsytheperhaps not getting as much time to flourish as they could. Late last season a slimmed-down rotation prompted a surge. Will that continue? Seems like a bit of a pickle?
  20. Is this per your acquaintances on the coaching staff?
  21. Nice article by GT in today's ABJ. http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-football-thomas-woodson-has-stabilized-quarterback-position-for-zips-1.628138 Concerning the vanilla play calling against Oklahoma & Pitt, coach Bowden said: “Maybe I can take the blame for not trying to open it up more against Oklahoma and Pitt. We were just moving through our schedule, doing the things we thought were best at the time we played everybody we played.” I like the fact Bowden is taking the heat for the lackluster offensive performances against Oklahoma and Pitt, but I've really got to assume the play calling was so vanilla simply because they didn't feel Tra'Von Chapman could execute most of the playbook. I love the fact we're going back to more of the spread with Tommy. Spread the defense out with Tommy & let Connor Hundley be the north-south hammer that he is. Good recipe.
  22. Man, I was hesitant to give this thread a bump as it's pretty negative. But in all honesty, is anyone else as perplexed as I am how the entire coaching staff could fail to tell, throughout spring ball and training camp, that Tommy Woodson was clearly the best QB on the roster? Tra'Von Chapman looked downright awful, even against Savannah State. Tommy came in and torched Savannah State and then went on to dominate Louisiana. Shouldn't that have been obvious in practice?
  23. For years I've only wished the ABJ would cover UA like the Canton Repository covers Canton McKinley.
  24. Wow, how about the info dropped in the subtitle alone: The Zips hadn't won by more than 20 points on the road in over a decade before beating Louisiana 35-14 on Saturday. That's a good sign for the future.
  25. Thanks, a-zip! I'll put this here http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/ua-profs-give-school-administrators-failing-grades-in-new-survey-1.627855 Go Akron! Go Zips!
