  1. Thanks, GT! Looking forward to the piece on Jarrod Pughsley. He's caught my eye in a number of the photos on Ohio.com. He looks like a monster.
  2. This is true. IIRC, I read once that only two NCAA D-1 schools actually turned a profit off football: Texas & Columbus. Every other team in the nation operated at a deficit. I don't know if that's entirely accurate, but schools, as a rule, don't operate in the black. I would suppose that schools basically consider athletics part of their advertising budget - and that would hold true for D-1 through NAIA; I don't think any schools operate in the black.
  3. That does seem like a distant memory. I remember loving Humpty, but hoping we could bring in a taller PG to replace him, then being very disappointed when I learned we were bringing in another 5'9" PG in AA.
  4. +1. Thanks, George!
  5. George Thomas' expanded article on Justin Turner now mentions that Firestone's Kevin Gladney was also at a recent Zips practice.
  6. Akron.com GT also talks about the spread offense and how, with Coach Bowden's system, he really needs two quality RB's, 1-A & 1-B. Chisholm is still 1-A.
  7. Wonder if TP spun KD into that corner? TP spoke at my church a few months ago. We were able to fill out question cards beforehand. I filled out 3 questions concerning Terry Bowden & Zips football. I saw how many question cards TP received - not too many. He didn't answer a single question about the Zips. It was all Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavs. Screw you, Pluto. I simply wonder this because it was KD himself who wanted us to "think bigger than the MAC."
  8. I'm surprised no one's guessed Walsh. He seems like a basketball gymrat-type to me.
  9. #4 looks like it was designed by a 4th grader.
  10. Great find!
  11. Here is a picture of Yedlin's mohawk.
  12. We're playing Pitt. Any further updates?
  13. Here is GT's more in-depth article on the QB derby. From today's (4/6) ABJ.
  14. We don't need Willie's services, IMO. But we could really use the 6'9" Donovan Jack.
  15. I don't want to make a big to-do, but I much prefer this graphic. I'm going to copy that image & just take it to a t-shirt shop & see what they can do.
  16. Can the general public get any of those t-shirts?
  17. Good story. Fear is a great motivator. Light that competitive fire to get our new arena built!
  18. I like it. Good move by BG, IMHO.
  19. Jim Christian's a very good coach. But, personally, I breathed a big sigh of relief when I found out Jeff Boals wasn't taking over in Athens.
  20. I'll admit that I was beyond skeptical and disappointed when George Thomas was named Zips beat writer. And I'm sure I probably said as much somewhere in that thread. I'm not going to look. But I am now beyond happy to say that George has beyond a shadow of a doubt proven me wrong. His coverage has been simply outstanding!
  21. Ah, bobby! You exposed a skeleton from my closet! Yes, I started that thread. But GEORGE THOMAS HAS PROVEN ME WRONG! If you look at my post history, you'll see that I'm an incredibly laid back guy. I almost never get riled up. Yeah, I was upset about that and it's one of the few times that internet anonymity got to me - I don't think I'd ever say anything like that to someone's face. The only times I get riled up are if someone disses Akron - Akron in general, not just the U; downtown, the city in general, the university, the university athletics programs, LeBron, etc. I definitely stick up for all-things-Akron. But I'm sorry about that, George. Your coverage has been simply outstanding. I've been a Zips fan for 20 years now and literally do not ever remember the Akron Beacon Journal offering the outstanding coverage that you've given us over these past couple of months! I sincerely look forward to the Beacon's daily coverage and I don't remember the last time I could say that. Thank you!
