  1. George, I really appreciate the great coverage you've been giving Zips athletics. We've never had such a dedicated beat writer. I also want to express appreciation for your reading of - and getting the answers to - many of the questions posted here. Thanks for the good work you do! Go Akron. Go Zips.
  2. Wow. Proof positive that
  3. I don't know. Actually, I don't believe any rules at all were being broken. But the NCAA came up with, what seemed to me an arbitrary policy, that AAU tournaments couldn't be held on college campuses before a certain date. IIRC, it only effected LeBron's K.J. Tourney. Maybe someone else with more time could get better details (Dave). But it just smelled like the NCAA was arbitrarily singling out UA & LeBron's tourney. The King James AAU Tourney, btw, was where I saw Zeke for the first time. He was playing in the student rec center. I also had the privilege of meeting Momma Zeke.
  4. This is one of the dumbest discussions in the history of ZN.o. And there have been plenty. LeBron works out & plays pickup basketball with our team over the summer, brings in friends like Kevin Durant, D-Wade, C-Bosh & Chris Paul & is friends with everyone on the team. (Hint: has anyone noticed the slight uptick in athletic talent KD's been able to recruit over the last two years?) There better not be ANYTHING more explicit going on beyond what LeBron already does, or the NCAA would hit us with the death penalty quicker than I can make this post - they already made he & Coach Joyce move the King James Classic off of our campus. Lord have mercy on us all. Good grief.
  5. Well said. This is why I can't stand ESPN anymore. ESPN owned the pre-internet world. Now it's just sad to watch.
  6. Literally, UA doesn't have enough $$$ to buy that kind of publicity. Simply extraordinary.
  7. Mail or email?
  8. Courtesy of the ABJ. "Kenmore High School defensive standout Deontae Moore and his coach, Ed Peltz, took in practice, which was held outdoors at InfoCision Stadium on Tuesday."
  9. Thanks, GT! Looking forward to the piece on Jarrod Pughsley. He's caught my eye in a number of the photos on Ohio.com. He looks like a monster.
  10. This is true. IIRC, I read once that only two NCAA D-1 schools actually turned a profit off football: Texas & Columbus. Every other team in the nation operated at a deficit. I don't know if that's entirely accurate, but schools, as a rule, don't operate in the black. I would suppose that schools basically consider athletics part of their advertising budget - and that would hold true for D-1 through NAIA; I don't think any schools operate in the black.
  11. That does seem like a distant memory. I remember loving Humpty, but hoping we could bring in a taller PG to replace him, then being very disappointed when I learned we were bringing in another 5'9" PG in AA.
  12. +1. Thanks, George!
  13. George Thomas' expanded article on Justin Turner now mentions that Firestone's Kevin Gladney was also at a recent Zips practice.
  14. Akron.com GT also talks about the spread offense and how, with Coach Bowden's system, he really needs two quality RB's, 1-A & 1-B. Chisholm is still 1-A.
  15. Wonder if TP spun KD into that corner? TP spoke at my church a few months ago. We were able to fill out question cards beforehand. I filled out 3 questions concerning Terry Bowden & Zips football. I saw how many question cards TP received - not too many. He didn't answer a single question about the Zips. It was all Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavs. Screw you, Pluto. I simply wonder this because it was KD himself who wanted us to "think bigger than the MAC."
  16. I'm surprised no one's guessed Walsh. He seems like a basketball gymrat-type to me.
  17. #4 looks like it was designed by a 4th grader.
  18. Great find!
  19. Here is a picture of Yedlin's mohawk.
  20. We're playing Pitt. Any further updates?
  21. Here is GT's more in-depth article on the QB derby. From today's (4/6) ABJ.
