You're right. I heard that too... maybe read it on here? But JoMo's constantly looking at his IHOP menu on the sideline & communicating with someone, i.e., it sure looks like he's calling the plays. And besides, I don't think our program's at the point where he can delegate that responsibility... especially considering how our offense underperformed all year. I don't want JoeMo to pull another Bowden & derail his career here by refusing to take back play calling duties from a young underling who isn't yet ready for the responsibility.

I've gotten that vibe as well... which leaves me feeling very empty inside πΆ

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season
Blue & Gold replied to LZIp's topic in Akron Zips Football
Do you think we could use playing at OSUcks next year to help us land a better P5 transfer QB than if OSUcks wasn't on our schedule? Do you think this gives us any recruiting advantage which we didn't have prior to this game being announced? -
I still feel we were just a mediocre QB away from 5, maybe even 6 wins.

What would you're thinking be if YSU agreed to play in Akron every year? -
Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season

If our program was even close to the level of Toledo's I'd be absolutely stoked about facing OSUcks. As it is, we're almost certainly in for a nationally televised shellacking which will only serve to make Joe Akron's eyes roll even harder at the already nearly unthinkable prospect of actually supporting the Zippers. I already suffer enough workplace abuse from the absurdity of actually being a fan of our local team. I can only shudder when I imagine the abuse I'm going to be taking next August. In August of this year I actually had a co-worker ask me, "Are they still called the Zips?" And this is in Akron!!! π‘π‘π‘ '25 schedule looks spot on. Shockingly, it looks like it was actually put together by an intelligent adult who has a clue as to the currently inglorious state of our football program. However, this is UA Athletics, so they could certainly still screw it up... maybe they'll add Alabama or Georgia? π This year's schedule was also perfect for a potential Top 25 ranking but we couldn't come anywhere close to capitalizing. Ugh. Here are two things we should do. 1. We need to work overtime to renew our rivalry with YSU. We need rivalry games because we desperately need meaningful games. Rivaly games are a way to (artificially) manufacture meaningful games... even if the games aren't meaningful outside of the two schools' fanbases. Look at how excited we were - and how Akron twitter blew up! - after we beat lowly KSUcks this year. YSU is another natural rival who would bring a large contingent of fans to the Info to make for a potentially great environment. Bring back the Steel Tire Trophy! Make the annual Akron-Youngstown State Steel Tire Trophy game our opening game every year! An annual tradition! (I know, I know... YSU doesn't want to play in Akron every year... to renew the rivalry they also want us to make alternating trips to Youngstown... or something along those lines... that's deserving of its own conversation). 2. Make KSUcks our first MAC game every year. a) Both teams are still in contention for the MAC East at that point b) midweek MACtion has not yet started laying waste to MAC football attendance, and c) the weather is still nice. a+b+c=a perfect storm for a fun game day environment at the Info. Rocket science, I know. These are two seemingly obvious, no brainer moves. Moves which are so obvious that I simply can't imagine fully functioning adults in the UA Athletics department haven't been fighting tooth-and-nail for these for years. So, for some reason it's probably easier said than done. It does seem that ESPN has us by the balls. Do we have any say in our conference scheduling? At all? Or are we 100% ESPN's b*tch? -
What's he go by on instagram?

Good. Is he still doing basketball? We sure missed him at the Info for football.

Puzzling AS HELL! Indeed. And what boggled my mind was how they seemingly kept trying to ram square pegs into round holes with the QB talent we didn't have. Good coaches don't do that. In maybe six consecutive weeks' postgame pressers JoMo said, "We've got to find a way to get Lingard more touches." What does that freaking mean?! You call the freaking plays! WTF?

Jeff Shreve (?) the former voice of the Zips @ the Info & the JAR - who did a great job - was doing a Mount Union football Boxcast yesterday π§π€¨

I think the staff & players are too optimistic about Tahj. Of course I hope I'm dead wrong.

No, if you watched the presser the article was woven together (accurately and fairly, IMHO) with postgame press conference quotes. Edit: Oops, actually there were also quotes from DJI and Alex Adams: βTahj, for next year, he's going to be like another DJ, but he might be better,β said UA junior wide receiver Alex Adams, a first-team All-MAC selection in 2022 who dealt with injuries throughout the 2023 season and missed five games, including the final three. β[Bullock has] got the [ability to] run. He's got the throwing, too. Everybody just ain't seen that yet. But I ain't going to say too much. They've just got to come to the game and see.β A Zips captain who's aiming for a shot in the NFL, Irons said Bullock has βa great, great future.β Irons said he's also convinced the UA program is in good hands with Moorhead, though everyone involved must βbuy inβ to capitalize. βThere's definitely progress being made,β Irons said. βIt's just I feel we have to learn how to finish together by playing complementary football. One time, it'd be the defense doing great and the offense wouldn't be, or special teams doing great and the offense and defense wouldn't be or vice versa. I feel like it's just that one little hump we've just got to get over, but once that happens, Akron, it'll be turned around.β

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season

This was also my guess. Our abominable season led to almost zero gate revenue so weβre now desperate to make it up somehow. If we had a team worthy of more butts in the seats weβd have the financial flexibility to be able to survive while picking up a game with a middling to low tier P5. -
Just looked at the box score & see Prather didn't receive a single minute even versus Heidelberg. Is he still injured? It looks like he's been dressing. He's only a R-Fr., but zero minutes? Amani Lyles is another concern. Against Heidelberg he saw 20 minutes, shot 5-of-7 for 10 points, and had 8 rebounds, so that's a nice line... but... Heidelberg. Thus far against D1 competition all of our games have been nail biters so there's not really been a good situation where Groce could afford to let him get his feet wet in mop up duty. He tallied... 2 minutes vs. SDSU 0 minutes vs. S.Miss 0 minutes vs. FIU, and 0 minutes vs. Utah State Just something to keep an eye on. I'm not throwing the towel in on Amani yet. But with minutes like Prather and Amani have been getting, or, more specifically not getting... Idk.
