  1. http://www.ohio.com/sports/36795474.htmlA nice article about Humpty in today's paper.
  2. The same people that comment in the Beacon must comment in cleveland.com. I personally don't think that there is anything wrong here. The son bought the property with the idea of making a profit and anyone with any intelligence could see that when the University expanded this was the direction that it would go. The father excused himself from voting on the sale and the price was not out of line with what was paid others. Buy the property, finish the deal, and build the dorms. This smells a little (or a lot) like politics to me.
  3. 3 guys he had recruited, that GREW into top notch players on his watch. If this team was in such good shape, why isn't D-Hip still here? How many freshman are ever considered "top notch players" in their first year? Doesn't it take good coaching to mold these players into becoming better and fitting into the team? This entire thread is just beating a dead horse.
  4. I agree ......... Waters is a good coach , so is Charlie Coles, and so are several other coaches all around Ohio, but we have KD and I am happy with him. I want him to stay around and I don't want to go out and hire any of those other guys.
  5. I don't begrudge the University from recouping these costs, I just think that there is a better way of doing it. If a student pays the Transportation Fee issue a parking pass and a bus pass. Those that don't pay don't get a pass. The 2.9% credeit card fee opens up an entire different can of worms. I know other Universities have this and I know these schools are not supposed to increase tuition, however I have mixed feelings on this fee. Should retail outlets start charging this fee think what will happen to credit card spending but maybe that is good. Somehow this average cost should be rolled into the tuition fees. The $25.00 fee for orientation is just plain B.S. I do have a problem with the cost of a college education increasing over twice as much as the cost of living over the last twenty some years.
  6. Bob Dyers and his awards for the 2008 year."HOUDINI AWARD: During these tough economic times, the kind souls at the University of Akron have ''frozen'' tuition. Well, UA now charges a mandatory transportation fee of $115 per semester, even if you don't park on campus or use the buses. But that's not a tuition hike. And UA is now making students absorb the 2.9 percent processing fee on credit-card payments. But that's not a tuition hike. And UA charges a parent $25 to walk through freshman orientation day with their kid. But that's not a tuition hike. And in one year, UA's standard meal plan shot up 5 percent and housing 9 percent. But that's not a tuition hike. Nope. All that money is just sort of magically changing hands."Here is the link: http://www.ohio.com/news/dyer/36738374.html
  7. Went lurking on K.S.U.'s board and they seem to have suddenly developed a new religion .... go with four year players rather than JUCO's ... Read what they say: axeme Wrote: I'd hate to see what the last 10 years would have been like without our two-year carpetbaggers. They would have been bad, very bad. Even Gary Waters says we would not have achieved Elite Eight status without Antonio Gates. Most mid pick up quality first bouncers from better rpograms to make them better. In principle, don't have a problem with filling in gaps with JUCOs and transfers. My concern is that transfers and JUCO's appear to have become our strategy vs. our fill in. Wonder if this hurts us in attracting quality four year guys to develop...do they go somewhere where they know they won't sit behind a string of veteran newcomers? If this is true, I'd rather use a down year or two to readjust instead of hoping we find the second bounce ( or, in case of the mentioned PG, fifth bounce) lightning.http://ncaabbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=474
  8. A 26 point loss to CSU. I understand that CSU has a good team this year but what in the world has happened to Can't. What did Evans do in this spanking?
  9. I think the ESPN2 game you're looking at is their matchup with OklahomaSorry about that ........
  10. "It always worries me when the Zips have to play against more talent and a better coach." The Zips have played against more talented teams ever since going D-1. But a better coach than KD? Come on this guy ain't chopped liver!
  11. I went to the link for VCU's schedule and they list the game being televised on ESPN2.
  12. In the same vein regarding regarding perserverance, hard work, and the number of chances a player gets, I am really surprised at the number of "non-scholarship" players KD has on this team. These kids (sometimes "walk-ons") work hard and get little or no rewards for their efforts, yet they continue year after year with no hope of a scholarship. In my day I tried to walk-on and the coach told me that there were "no walk-ons".
  13. Amen! What he said ..............
  14. I think it is lousy (expletive deleted). When I ordered Zips vs Can't State Basketball tickets today I told the people in the Athletic Department that ..... AND THEY AGREED WITH ME.
  15. I think it is a foregone conclusion (based upon past hisotry) that even if we win well of 20 games we probably won't get an at-large bid to the "big dance" and maybe the "little dance". :nutkick:
  16. I fully agree. More often than not when you go with JUCO players you get problems. Not always but often enough to avoid the possibility to begin with.
  17. That bus ride back is going to be extra long ..............
  18. It looks like NU is playing everyone back on defense and not worrying about scoring now.
  19. Things don't look so good ... the weather is not helping and NU isn't all that bad.GO ZIPS

The link is on the bottom right side of our website.===================================================These are the emails I received from Noreen Morris at Northwestern. It is going on 11:00 AM and I still can't find the link. Can anyone help?
  21. For those of us that can not make it to Illinois to watch the Zips take apart Northwestern Noreen Morris of the Northwestern Athletic Department says that the match will be video streamed at NU's website. The link is: http://nusports.cstv.com/index-main.htmlI can't find the video stream schedule but maybe it's not posted yet.
  22. I have not commented on this subject before, but now I need to vent. Before the Buffalo game the Zips had their own destiny in their own hands. They should have had every reason to be motivated to win out. The loss to Buffalo was a heart breaker, but the season was not a complete loss at this point. The loss to Ohio U. was difficult to take but we still could finish with a 6-6 record. But the loss to Temple (the team that two years ago people on this forum said was a disgrace) was disgusting. It is obvious that Zips quit on this season and that I blame on coaching. Either JD gave up on this team .... the team gave up on JD .... or both .... the fact remains that a 5-7 season is not acceptable. Say what you will about Can't, but Martin had that team pumped and they didn't quit at the end of the season. My vote is to let JD finish out his contract (because of the money) then get rid of him .... because next year will be no different than the past couple.
  23. I watched the Buffalo-Can't game and I did not think either team lacked motivation. Buffalo showed no quit and Can't gave it their all. When you think about it with something to play for, the Zips lost their last three games. Each loss was more embarrassing than the previous one. Can't, had nothing to play for yet didn't mail it in like the Zips but beat the MAC East Champs in an exciting game. I wonder what Martin could have done with the talent the Zips have because he obviously knows how to motivate a team.
  24. 27-6 against Temple ......... words (at least polite words) fail me.
  25. Hey, this is just a thought. I remember watching Zips soccer matches in the Rubber Bowl before Lee Jackson Field was put in. The Rubber Bowl has artificial turf and despite it's condition it is still home field for football. Wouldn't it be suitable?
