  1. I will gladly admit to being one of the big detractors. I even sent some tweets his way apologizing for my doubt. That being said, a LOT will need to go our way for us to play near the level we did this year.
  2. Donovan Mitchell just tested positive for COVID-19. I would be surprised if we have an NCAA tournament this year. ?
  3. Everyone has to see past themselves here. As fans, we're all pissed. I'll miss my first MAC tournament in 20 years. As @The Hip Zip said, there's things that are more important than basketball. While you or I may not be at risk, we could deliver this virus to someone for which it would be lethal. It isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of intelligence and sound reasoning based on science. If exponential infection is prevented, it may end in a lot of "I told you so" down the line, but that's still better than overwhelmed ICUs and rationing treatment (like what is happening in Italy). That being said, I REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY hope we at least see an NCAA tournament, even without fans. We have some great seniors, and I can't stand the thought of their careers ending this way.
  4. Somewhat related. Does this mean Pinky is the dean of MAC coaches?
  5. Good call.
  6. I was waiting for this response, thanks @ziptrumpet87
  7. I know it's all statistics and analytics, but per ESPN BPI:
  8. Maybe they can pump in some fake fan noise, like the football team does to practice for big non-conference games? ??
  9. Things are happening fast now. UA/Kent/OSU have suspended in-person instruction per this recommendation. I would be shocked if things went off completely status quo in Cleveland Thursday-Saturday.
  10. Fatality rates internationally on reported cases are between 3 and 4 percent, and much higher for the elderly, young, and immunocompromised. Seasonal flu rates hover at 0.1% or less of reported cases. If the infection rate nears that of a seasonal strain, deaths would likely be >1,000,000. The risk doesn't lie with the healthy population, the risk lies in transmission to those most vulnerable, such as the many deaths at the nursing home in Washington. The reason for the cancellation of large gathering events is try to prevent community spread with the hope that the severity of the outbreak is dulled by the onset of warmer weather. But anyway, go Zippers, beat the Bobkitties.
  11. I don't disagree. Sometimes public health situations are bigger than anything sports related. Barring a miracle, this is going to get worse before it gets better.
  12. One person is hospitalized at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. 2 others are in self-quarantine. These folks have been out in the community for the last several weeks, and chances are that this spirals fast. It is important to note that the reasoning behind any potential cancellation is NOT the risk to the general public, it is the risk of exposing high-risk demographics (75+/<1yr/immuno-compromised). Working in healthcare, it drives me nuts that people are calling this "hysteria." The risk is real, and mortality rates may be as high as 25-30x that of the seasonal flu.
  13. Governor just declared a State of Emergency in Ohio. 3 positive COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County. One hospitalized at Cleveland Clinic. I think we're facing a real possibility of some cancellations or fan-free games this weekend.
  14. Looking at Twitter history, should be any day now.
  15. 25 wins in 16/17. 26 wins in 06/07 and 12/13. I think 27 would do it. Am I missing something?
  16. I believe, if we can keep it going for 3 days in CLE, that this team will set the program record for wins at 27. Let's go 3-0.
  17. I checked out at about 2:30 myself. Taking my oldest (6) to his first sold out rivalry game. He can't wait to scream his lungs out. LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!
  18. I coughed up some extra cash for tonight to get reserved seats for exactly this reason. Godspeed.
  19. The point is the revenue that is missing. It was the same story in 2002. Gonzaga played in a smaller arena, but averaged 99% capacity (4k) every year except '99. 2012-13 was the Zips high water mark, just shy of 3800 (65% capacity), in a year where we cracked the top 25 for the first time. I'm not ignorant to some of the high profile wins the Bulldogs have had, but the main difference between Gonzaga and Akron is that when Gonzaga started to win, fans showed up. Zips are 23-7 and back in first place, yet can't even fill up half the arena. Apathy is UA's number one enemy.
  20. Gonzaga 2019 Attendance: 17 games, 6,000 per game (100% capacity), 102,000 tickets sold. Akron 2019 Attendance: 17 games, 2,610 per game (45% capacity), 44,362 tickets sold. Conservatively pricing the "average" ticket of $30: Gonzaga ticket revenue $3,060,000 Akron ticket revenue $1,330,860 So about $1.7 million in ticket revenue difference, and that's not taking into account higher prices/demand for Gonzaga nor any tickets "bought" by UA for basketball games. It's probably safe to say, Gonzaga brings in $2-3 million more per season just in ticket revenue. Then there's this: There will never be a midmajor on par with Gonzaga and also having to support a football teams. Sucks, but it's the reality.
  21. Post-OU Statistical Update. Shooting percentages are trending upward slightly. Hopefully we fought through that late-season lull and are getting a second wind.
  22. If Tribble develops his jumpshot in the off season, he will be a star. The kid can jump out of the gym.
  23. 1/20 on 3s. That's all you need to see. And outrebounded 32-22.
  24. Zips opened as 1.5 point favorites, like has shift to PK or BG -1. Really looking forward to this one. Need to get out of our shooting funk.
  25. True. But we'll also be passed by .500 P5 teams that get hot and win a game or two in their conference tournament.
