Hey everyone...Just got back from chapel hill steve and barry's for the first time and i'm happy to report they appear to have expanded the zips stuff. There's an entire display now with about 6-10 different types of tees, long and short sleeved, one type of hoodie, and unfortunately, still not coats. Best part of it all...there's an additional display with K.E.N.T. shirts, and the display is split with zips stuff. 1.5 tables of zips stuff, one-half table of K.E.N.T. stuff. That's what I like to see...though there are jackets for

Mike Tirico, ESPN Extra Point. "In what would have been LeBron's senior year in college, instead of helping lead his native state's college to the Final Four, he's branding their jerseys."Good thing Ohio only has one college, Mike.Fire away.

What if you hate wal-mart?

Maybe all the Zips stuff flew out the door first? Or maybe the U wants to make all the money off its stuff that is (literally) five times as expensive.

Yep...I believe it's down at the end by the petstore. I could be wrong though.

I posted about the chapel hill store opening a few months back...I was hoping it'd be filled with zips stuff. I'd also been to Elyria, as well as ashtabula. Ashtabula was FULL of buffalo stuff and had about 6 different types of K.E.N.T. shirts. I was able to find one hoodie and one long sleeve tee. Both simply said "The University of Akron" in school colors on a navy garment. Havent been to chapel hill yet, I guess I'm bound to be disappointed.

channel five was there...no word on the news so far. only sports snippet was about greg oden.

My favorite part of coaches speech was this: "Now remember how you feel RIGHT NOW if sometime down the road we go 11-15."Video was awesome...glad they included my favorite play of the season, j wood's breakaway oop to quade. Got the fellas and coach to all sign my "fear the roo" poster. Here's a pic and a couple others just to make you all smile. sorry for the space it takes up!

Well...what'd the 'nation think?!

not to be a party pooper....but I dont really think the JAR is THAT bad. Honestly, with some reconfiguring of the seats and maybe a some more seats added, that building would be everything we need. Sure, maybe a remodel of the entry would be nice too. I'm eternally the optimist, but the talk of us "needing" a new building is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to early. Look what EMU did...they capitalized on a couple years of success in the 90s to build that BEAUTIFUL 9,000 seat arena that never draws more than 1000 spectators. You cant tell me that we're not consistently selling out the JAR simply because of the fact that it's a "bad place to watch a game." The fact of the matter is the community has yet to fully embrace this team, as good as they are. When that does happen, and I do believe it will, and the Zips become the hot ticket in town consistently playing to capacity crowds, THEN we can start thinking about "upgrading." If the MAC tournament and championship told me anything, we will likely NEVER need an arena any larger than about 8,000 seats. Rant: OVER.

Just got a Zipmail about the rally. I'm happy to see the U put a little bit of effort into this. I'm spreading word as best I can...

for what it's worth...drexel's gym, and i do mean GYM, seats only 2,700. How is this division 1 basketball?

I'll be there as well...with a couple in tow. How can we get the word out for this?!?!?!

OH...and I will be cheering for our crappy conference, not miami. MAC wins=respect for MAC teams. As much as we don't like our conference right now, things aren't changing any time soon. And if the #4 team out of the MAC can put together a couple wins in the NCAA tournament, it MAY give the MAC some respect come this time next year. So...that being said...Go Miami

This is the same guy that's posting over on MACBBS about how he came up with the idea for our student section and we stole it and he should get credit. Get a life, buddy. On the upside, at least you made it to the QUALITY message boards.

Letter To Coach Dambrot, Coaches & Team.
RowdyZip replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
*smiles* nothing's ever been sooooo right on these boards.PROUD TO BE A ZIP! -
I'll take one too. They can't tell me to take it off because I don't think Zippy has a middle finger! I'll tell them Zippy is mad as hell and is letting everyone know that we're #1! Zippy on the front, 26 on the back with "scROOed" above where a name would be...I'd definately buy one...

Hmmm...perhaps we'll lead the league in free throw shooting next year? I'm thinkin ced will more than likely never miss a ft again. Incidently...just watched cleveland rants on FSN and they showed that damned replay about two dozen times. On the good side...they've said just about what we've been saying all along. It's not a snub, not a mistake, not an exclusion of the zips from the NIT, but rather a heinous CRIME that these washed-up former major conference coaches could leave us out. OK. now i'm upset again.

I had a friend tell me that he heard laing on the radio saying that the committee had akron penciled into a "very respectable seed" before the loss to miami.

slightly forced.

put it up. we'd all love to see!

Let's make it a combo! A "Celebrate the Zips/NIT Bracket burning" party. Who has a place that can fit 25,000 people?
-
I'd bank that there's some developmentally disabled NCAA rule about this sort of thing (one cant say "retarded" and be PC any more). Good idea, nonetheless. I know I could take rome. What's a 30 lb and 9 inch height advantage worth, anyways?

From another thread...thought i'd put it up here too...About the NCAA being only about MONEY.You know, this is a really good point. I got into an argument at work with a fella today over this. His comment: you cant expect the North Carolinas and Ohio States of the world to come play AT akron.Me: Why not?Him: because they dont play in small arenas, there are two different levels of college basketball, even if it is all div 1-a.Me: Could it be because they're afraid they could lose?Him: You think Akron could stay with North Carolina at the JAR?Me: I think Akron could stay with ANYONE at the JAR, and that's why they wont come here. And so on and so forth. I saw so many teams get into the field of 65 because of having 5-9 or 7-8 records against the rpi top 50. Do you think if the zips got a dozen games against the top 50, split between home and road that we couldnt win at least 5 of those? Give me a break, just because every time WE play a top 50 team it HAS to be on the road, makes it that much harder to get those "quality" wins. So if you schedule tough, at the end of the season they look at you and say, well they went 1-8 against the top 50. Oh, but Purdue went 6-8. Would they notice that all 9 of the 1-8 were on the road? Nah.It comes down to this: Schedule tough and be forced to play the majority of your games on the road. You'll have a moderate RPI, especially if you could win a couple. Selection committee will knock you out, however, because you have too many losses. The zips won 26(7) games this year. Their schedule was easy, with the exception of a few mac games and nevada/oru. We won the vast majority. Lost all games by a combined total of 22 points. Result: you didnt schedule TOUGH enough. The major conference bias is the most disgusting thing in the world. Moreso than the MLBPA and their oppostion to a salary cap.Can you tell me that the decline in mid-major at-large bids isnt directly related to the instances of teams like george mason last year. Major conferences are deathly afraid of the year that a "mid-major" wins the NCAA tournament. George Mason came closer than ever this year. The result the following year? The lowest amount of "mid-major" at-large selections in the last decade. 6. And two of those were locks because of their status in the top 25 before losing somewhere in their conference tournaments (SIU and Butler). Disgusting.Another fun point? Old Dominion and Butler (2 of the 6 "mid-major" at-larges) face eachother in the first round.Ok. rant over. hope you enjoyed.
