Zips open as 10 point favorites. I'm thinking take OU and the points in this one. As much as I'd like to see us trounce them in this game, I think Bubba comes back from a dreadful 2 for 11 game to hold the bobcats closer than that. Zips 73OU 68

Bleacher Bum, i'm right behind you ! I'll be there!

I for one would NOT like to face Miami in the tournament. That awful slow motion style of play...In the semis would it be 1 v 4 and 2 v 3?This would put us with a potential matchup with Can't in the semis...it's be nicer to face em in the final but all things are pointing to Akron and Can't being 2 and 3 (pending the outcome of March 4th). Let's hope toledo slips up against the sorry west.

Zips make appearance on Bracketology
RowdyZip replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Yup...dunno if anyone posted it but I also noticed it. It's nice to see, but also sort of empty. Joe puts only the top divisional record team from the smaller conferences up there. So as of now...this weeks issue of Bracketology will have Toledo back up representing the MAC. -
Some quick thoughts after 4 hours of sleep, a 9 hour workday and a two our nap We are the best team in the MAC. We need to develop that "killer instinct." Step on the throat, twist the knife mentality. Had em down early, and virtually the whole game but consistently lacked that one extra bucket (i.e. the big three pointer) at key times allowing toledo to get back into it.I will never complain about our crowds again, nor our students. Toledo had a bunch of kids show up, but 95% of them sat with their thumbs in there hiney until the last minute and a half. Rowdies outclassed the toledo kids in their own arena. And we were 2+ hours away from home. I sat in the last row of the Rowdies in toledo, behind gozips88 and his kiddo, Kyle. We need more kids like this one to spur on the AK-Rowdies tradition! Unbelievable excitement and even basketball knowledge. (I was the guy behind ya with the two rowdies wrist bands and the blue zips headband. Sorry for some of my language towards the end there...I was a little upset ) Toledo IS a dump. I drove into town on I-75 expecting to see signs for the University. Maybe it's my fault for just assuming the University of Toledo would have some signs directing you from downtown/interstates. NOTHING. I drove around some pretty rough areas looking for the dang school. Stopped at a BP to ask how to get to campus and I got "Uhhh...sorry, I dont know where U of T is at..." HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW? Luckily found a nice kid working at the McDonalds across from that BP that goes to school at UT and gave me good directions, despite me being decked out in full 'rowdies glory. That arena is atrocious! I understand why their message boards are ripe with "proposals" to improve the venue. It makes the JAR look like a gem. I hope I dont get cancer from watching a game in Asbestos Hall. I truly believe that we can beat any team in this league at any point. However, it's looking like we are gonna end up with the #2 at best by virtue of Toledo playing in the MAC's minor league this year (the west). #2 is fine. It sets up a rematch on a neutral court, if everything works out. And I have no doubt we win that game handily either at home or on a neutral court.Alright...off to stew a little more. I need a big win tuesday to get me off this loss kick. Really bugs me to lose! See you all tuesday! GO ZIPS!

not really. then we'd be playing a bunch of division II teams. Oh wait, I mean D-IAA. Same difference... You have too much spare time.

I cant talk smack here...until gameday. The folks flaming on here aren't really flaming...they're nice folks. Respectful and realistic. They dont come into this game expecting to win (like Ohio still does ) But they do expect a game, which is fine. Perhaps it's better this way, then come a week from Saturday all my vicious insults and smack talk will flow to the coaches and AP team members on the floor. GO ZIPS!!!

Bring the "Moving 'A'" Logo Back!
RowdyZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
You think you'd see as many kids (10-16 as well as college students) walking around with Zips apparrel if we still had just that outdated 80s looking thing? Sure, it's kinda cool for some throwback stuff but the new logos are MUCH better. -
Oh. and I didnt mean to sound snotty with that. The Zips have the best team I've seen since I've been paying attention and it's hard not to gloat sometimes...But here's the recap:Since you last posted, the Zips have continued their winning streak by playing patsies of the Western division of our conference. This year, the East is vastly superior to the West with the exception of Toledo. That being said...The Zips travelled about 3 hours North to play @ the LOVELY Eastern Michigan Eagles' Convocation Center. Probably the best facility in the MAC. It's a shame too, because the drew all of 500 (maybe). They faced a team that had just lost their leading scorer for the remainder of the season with a broken foot in a victory over buffalo in the previous game. That being said, the Zips were comfortably ahead for the majority of the game despite a couple runs by a gritty EMU squad in the second half. Zips were favored by 12.5, won by 10.Next, we faced Ball State at the JAR. Ball State was overmatched from the beginning. A gritty Zips defense shut the Cardinals down on 30% fg shooting. Zips were favored by 19.5, won by 18.Finally, Wednesday we faced the Central Michigan Chippewas, also of the Western division. This game was closer than it should've been. I chalk that up to looking forward to the Toledo game on Saturday. Chips played well, I'll give em that one. Zips controlled the offensive boards in this one and it was probably the difference between a win and a loss. Zips were favored by 19, and won by just 7.Lesson to be learned? It's tough to win at the JAR and take the opponent and the points.GO ZIPS!

Winning. Nine in a row now...3 big games coming up: @Toledo (1st in the west), vs. Ohio (only MAC team to beat us) and vs. AP (that's YOU). Hopefully the Zips have some left after saturday and tuesday...

Go away.

Ideal for me would be the horseshoe shape of the rubber bowl with the open end still "completing the bowl" but being an open grass hill rather than seats. We'd be able to toss out a blanket and nap during those future stomp downs of Ohio U in MAC play! (had to throw it in... )

attendence note: I'm a numbers freak.Remaining THREE home games the Zips will need to average 4,800 attendence to beat the top average attendence in the last 14 years per THIS site. It was 1998. We averaged 3,620 fans. Zips finished 18-9 (12-6). This was the season before my freshman year...Alrighty! Nite all!

The Zips have played 6 games OOC against teams with RPIs over 200 and only 4 against teams under 200, one of which is at 198. Ohio played only 2 games OOC against teams with RPIs over 200 and 9 games against teams with RPIs under 200. Hopefully Dambrot puts together a much more RPI friendly schedule next year. This is really a catch 22. If you schedule a tough OOC slate, and lose a few of em, your RPI goes up along with the strength of schedule. But then come selection time, they look at you and say "well, they have good RPI, but too many losses for a mid major." If you schedule a cupcake OOC and whoop butt on into the conference schedule (i.e. this year) they look at you and say "wow, the record is impressive, but their strength of schedule and rpi is too low."Answers: Schedule tough and somehow win the vast majority. OR Realize the regular season is really the preseason in the MAC and win out in the tourney. The life of "mid-majors." I hate that word.

RowdyZip replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
RowdyZip is smiling at this news. Dang good solution to an irritating problem. Go mods! (who are you?) -
dang it. all their stupid crap about trying to sneak into our student section is gonna lead to the same super duper mega security we had against Can't. here...show your zip card seven times to seven different people to get to your seat and have each person scrutinize it to make sure it's actually you. Stupid hillbillies.

Thank to All for the Help
RowdyZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Seriously, thanks-a-million Capn. -
1) That was ugly. Let's hope the guys were looking ahead to Toledo, cuz if we play like that, we lose by 25.2) Stupid city of Akron, I thought maybe you gave a darn after showing 5,000 on saturday. Apparently without free tickets, seeing an 18-4 team is not worth gate price.3) On second thought, after that product tonight, I'm kinda glad it wasnt full. Maybe they were just trying to make it exciting?4) J Wood is a beast. He comes more alive with every game. Makes me wonder why we were throwing up all those 3s when CMU had absolutely no answer for Wood or Rome.5) To win saturday we need: same overpowering inside presence from Rome/Wood/Quade and some outside shots to fall to take some pressure of the big fellas. FREE THROWS FREE THROWS FREE THROWS!! Let's not make this the first BIG game of the year we lose from the charity stripe.6) See you in TOLEDO!!!! Who's makin the trip? I'd like to see at least a couple hundred Zips fans...

overall thought of this recruiting class
RowdyZip replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football
My thoughts:1.) timmyboy: you are undoubtedly the "new thread king" lately.2.) it's looking pretty promising overall for the recruiting class...I can only imagine how much a gem of a new stadium on campus would help further.3.) let's wait for about 12 hours and find out what rolls in. there will undoubtedly be a few surprises in both who chooses to attend Akron and those who don't. -
Waaaa Waaaa Waaaaa!!! It's cold. You're adults. I work in a walk in freezer for sometimes 1-2 hours at a time and that baby stays at -15. You pay thousands of dollars for tuition (as do I). I'd think you'd WANT to go.
-
4,900 today!!!! Good job City of Akron!!! Is the town finally getting behind this team?!?!?! A saturday afternoon game on television when it's 8 degrees out with a -15 windchill and the zips almost break 5,000!!! And against a bad team...GO ZIPS!!!
-
I hope no one else out there is feeling like I am. It's FREEZING and the game's on tv...i'm awful tempted to stay home. That being said, after driving to EMU wednesday and getting out of work early to see this one, I'll see you all from behind the hoops. GO ZIPS!!!!
