  1. Z.I.P. Check your PMs.
  2. ah...B-Hip...likely the least talented athlete to ever don the blue and gold on the hardwood...
  3. Kicking... 50% in a scrimmage isn't that much of an improvement over last year, if you ask me. Methinks it's gonna me another weak point for the team this season...
  4. Saaaaweeeet! And from my high school alma mater! Things are really looking up for this program...good news followed by good news and a little more GOOD NEWS!!! Keep it comin, Coach D.
  5. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!
  6. I see your point and you're right. There is a VTech tragedy everyday in Iraq and in other parts of the world. Still, wearing the Hokies colors fosters awareness of our violent world, and hopefully results in more kindness towards each other. Any great tragedy such as VT, 911, Pearl Harbor needs a form of ritual to help ease the utter madness of a massively tragic event. AMEN!! Very VERY well put, on both sides. God Bless this country! It's a shame that the miracle that is the human mind can have so many good quirks and so many bad ones...
  7. I WASN'T a cocky ass when sending a message to David on Facebook. Seeing as I was a friend on the site, and after seeing a two-page thread inquiring to his status, I decided to send a cursory message asking his status for the Fall and telling him that the Zips needed him on the offense. Please don't be so defensive of your grammar issues, take a class or spend an extra 15 seconds to proofread your posts. Everyone else does. Have a nice day.
  8. I'm pretty sure that the university, as a state school, has the ability to use eminent domain, similar to how they used it to close the streets through campus. Odds are, such holdouts as Manny's and The Odd Corner are likely to go that route which will cost both time and money to the project. Perhaps the U could offer property on the south side of Exchange in addition to the property purchase price. If I was a business owner, I wouldnt want to be booted out of what will soon be an EXTREMELY busy bar scene across the street from a 30,000 seat stadium. There's a lot of money to be made in the future on Saturdays in Akron....
  9. Holy over-sensitive, batman. I apologize! Thank you for your insightful info. Please dont call me names.
  10. Holy run-on sentence, batman. And DH, if you do read this, all of Zipsnation is behind you. We need ya, buddy. P.S. Answer your facebook.
  11. Take a look around on some other threads. I believe the latest word is that he is indeed not on the spring roster because of the vague old "personal issues" but supposedly will be back over the summer. Here's hoping.
  12. No offense guys, but the Sun may have been the place when it was voted in playboy in 1985 or whenever, but it's really not now. It has a nice set up, but is almost always dead, with the exceptions of when the basketball team used to hang out there back in the Tarver days. It's a good place to go if you want to choke down a tall boy of Natty Ice. Oh...and Pints is where the old paninis was on exchange attached to the drive thru beverage, next to taco bell. Same bar as before, different name.
  13. Seriously. Why are you trying to pick fights? Gimme a break, dont bring Ohio State back into this. Clearly if every school in the big ten shot down the idea, it's a major conference issue, not a buckeyes issue. Even with the neutral site, the big boys have "too much to lose" with our current status as a mid-level mid major. Elevate our status (as it's started to do over the last 3 seasons) to one of the elite mid majors and then they may agree to play us on a neutral site, only because it will then HELP them if they win.
  14. Ok. That one wins for best name. I too enjoy pints, but bdubs is absolutely the best atmosphere for pregame/sporting activities. Mannys is a good place to just sit and yourself into oblivion.See everyone tomorrow!
  15. It's official. BW3s on exchange street is the official Zipsnation Spring Game tailgate location!
  16. I'm looking forward to getting decked out in zips gear, having an ice cold beer or 6 at bdubs, watching the tribe game at 1, and unfortunately having to wear my zips thermal headband for my hike to the rec cuz spring in ohio SUCKS.Anyone else doing some "tailgating"?
  17. The browns are on a national stage already. There are browns backers clubs across the country as well in canada. They're probably one of the most followed franchises in ANY sport. All this, despite having sucked for the last decade. With that being said, I PRAY that the Browns do something wiser with the 3rd pick. I'd rather see Peterson with one year of splitting carries with J. Lewis. Let's face it, Jamal Lewis on a 1 year contract is NOT what he used to be, and is no longer capable of being a featured back.Oh, and I'd LOVE to see Andy in a Browns uni...
  18. I'm sure everyone's probably seen THIS but really no shock here. Except maybe that baseball is already called 3 days ahead of time?
  19. Ok. I thought it was good. I too hate Duke...just because. You gotta admit, at the very least, it was creative. Do I sense some Duke sympathy, a-zip? I agree that the signs are also the best part of the video. It made me laugh out loud, litterally. Oh...and I hope sometime in the future we have some AK Oldies painting their faces for the big games. I agree that passionate fans arent an embarrasment.
  20. If you can sift through the keyboard diarrhea in the smack forum (mostly excreted by one poster) you will find two key points made that will dispel your statement:1.) The comment was clearly made that the "anti-OSU" stuff has a home IN THE SMACK FORUM. If Dr. Z's funny picture was posted in the "Football" forum, the pro-OSU crowd would have a legit beef about the topic. But it wasn't. If OSU fans, or anyone else, can't handle the smack, they should avoid that forum. 2.) It was specifically stated that comments regarding Ohio State Football, as they relate to the Zips, are welcome because they ARE an opponent this fall. Again, if you can sift through the sewage, you will find it was a thin-skinned OSU fan who fought, and continues to fight the notion that U of A can be held in a similar light to OSU by some. This is highly offensive to many Zips fans.It is very simple. This is a University of Akron Athletics forum. It exists, and is moderately popular because there really is no other outlet for supporters of University of Akron Athletics to discuss their passion. It will remain 100% dedicated exclusively to U of A athletics and related topics (MAC, NCAA policies, etc.). If someone wants to discuss issues involving the Cavs, OSU, etc, with no relevance to UA, there are a million other places to do so.Also please keep in mind that those who run this board don't have the spare time to police it every minute. And they don't have the time to edit every sentence that might be objectionable to someone (we're at about 1,000 registered members if you filter out the spammers). When there is a gray area, the Zips fan will always get the benefit of the doubt on this board. There's no fee to access this board. If anyone doesn't like how it is run, there's no one forcing them to participate. There are many Akron/OSU fans on this site who "get it." There are also many "Akron/Notre Dame" fans and "Akron/Michigan" fans who participate here and "get it." They leave their loyalties for their "other" favotite school at the door when they enter ZipsNation. Respect the fact that this is a Zips site. Zips fans fight the OSU machine for respect every day in the newspaper, on the radio, at school, in the workplace…everywhere. This is one place Zips fans can come and be treated like the top dog in town. It will always remain that way. AMEN.And LOL @ keyboard diarrhea.
  21. OK, I guess I'll bring this up again. Is there any word on David Harvey? He's not even listed on the roster in that new PDF. If there's one player on this team that could make or break the season, it's him. That man was the vast majority of our offense last year and we need him back, especially with the new kickoff rule.
  22. Right Here Thanks. Doug Doughty of the Roanoke VA Times had us at #24.I don't seem to remember getting votes from him during the season. It's sad to see that the guys who voted for us earlier forgot us just like the selection committee did. I blame marketing. We could have had a legitimate top-25 team on our hands last season, but it doesn't mean anything if nobody knows about it. Shouldnt at 24th place finish be worth 2 votes? Is the AP site current?
  23. not sure what you mean by have STUDENTS PLAY. could you explain to me what you mean plz. I think that what ZW is saying with that comment is that most "big time" college programs like OSU dont really have students playing. Many of the stars of the team get by 1 or 2 years knowing they have a multi-million dollar job waiting and have no intention of graduating. I truly agree that never will you find a more PURE form of competition of STUDENT athletes than at the "mid-major" level. Most of these guys will work their butts off for 4 years for a CHANCE to play in the league (NFL or NBA) rather than have it handed to them (not doubting the talent disparity) on a silver platter. However, all of us DO want to see UA succeed, and if eventually we do move up to a more quality conference....that comes with the territory. "BCS" teams with "BCS" talent breed NCAA violations and whiny pro prospect talent.
  24. Hello all. I never weigh in on this silly subject, but I will here. One and one time only. sgm405 happens to be a very good friend of mine. Please don't question his allegiance to the Zips. 1) This is Zips related (vaguely) Dr. Z said he wanted to buy the shirt for the game in Columbus in September.2) I too was once a buckeye fan. I'm recovering from that affliction. I still occasionally will cheer for them (Michigan week). I was raised by my parents to root for the Bucks, despite ZERO ties to that university. It's just the way families are here in Ohio...the most visible/frontrunning team will garner the support, especially if you include "ohio" in the title of the school, have athletic success, and have a "mascot" that happens to be the state tree. A tree. seriously. I'd rather be a Zip anyday.I find myself every day moving further and further from even caring about osu, call it apathy or call it dislike. I'll admit, I was somewhat happy to see them lose to florida AGAIN simply because I was sick of hearng about it. 99.9% of us on here have one TRUE allegiance, and that is too our current school or alma mater, the one and only University of Akron.Be loud, be proud and teach your children to love the Zips the same way you do. Preach the positives of this awesome University to all of your friends, families, neighbors, acquantainces and co-workers. Change the world, one fan at a time. If the Zips can continue this success on the field and in the arena, it'll make all of our jobs a LOT easier.GO ZIPS!
  25. No. But I do work for a much better company that just so happens to be in direct competition with the evil empire. On the downside, I am quite pro-union. Nothin' wrong with that...my pops happens to be a union carpenter and well...we wont go into whom builds wal-marts. this is a conversation for other boards.GO ZIPS!
