This subject was beaten to death a few months ago...I wish the threads were still around.

A portion of the AK-Rowdies Email, for those that dont receive it. I believe this trip is open to all students, the trip is simply hosted by the rowdies, and $15.00 for a charter bus/tshirt/ticket is a great deal to see the clash for first place in the MAC. We need any and all students/fans at this game! GO ZIPS!!!TOLEDO:AK-ROWDIES are hosting a road trip to the Toledo game next Saturday, February 10th. For just $15.00, you will receive your ticket for the game, a bus ride, and a new t-shirt! The first 50 AK-ROWDIES to sign up are GARUNTEED a seat on the bus. Vouchers will be available to reserve your ticket tomorrow, Friday, February 2, in the Student Union from 11-3 and also before and after the men's game on saturday. **MONEY MUST BE PAID UP FRONT WHEN YOU SIGN UP** These are possibly your only 2 chances to get the tickets so MAKE SURE you get them early! remember ~ Those riding the bus will receive t-shirts! The bus will leave at about 2:00 p.m. next Saturday, so we hope to see you there to support our Zips! **if you would just like a ticket for the game please contact Chad Welker at cvw1@uakron.edu, however you wont receive the shirt**

If there's anything I've learned over the last year on this board, it's that CK knows all. WR will not be a problem next year.

Nope. it was EMPTY in that beautiful 8,800 capacity facility. And yes, we did make the trip, and no, we didnt any speeding tickets Road games are fun, especially when you win by 10. and yes...some of us are going to toledo.

Who does this surprise? Hippies...

very nice.

Yep. all 17 of the other fans at the game (i think 14 of them were in the student band). Bleacher Bum met his green-haired counterpart. Wish I had my camera, cuz I'd post a pic. Met ced's oldest brother, cool guy despite having attended EMU. Fans were nice, started to get mean at the end when we ran back out to a 15+ point lead. Tuba player started chanting "Go K.E.N.T. State" while we were walking out. Random thoughts thread is over, I'm off to recover my voice before Saturday. GO ZIPS!!!

Ok...well it took a little closer to 3 than 2.5 cuz we made a bathroom break on the way up and a gas stop on the way back, but I coulda definately made it in 2.5 cuz I don't stop when I road trip. That being said, that was a fun place. BEAUTIFUL facility. NOBODY there. Myself and 4 other rowdies represented well. I think we were louder than the whole place, except for during their run in the second half. 16-4!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Just about to leave on the 2.5 hour trip north, predictions for this game?To think about: Eastern won at home against muffalo, by 13 (the Zips only won by 7 at the JAR).Eastern lost their top scorer for the season to a broken foot in that same game.Line is Zips (-12.5) I see the Zips covering that, and then some.Akron 77EMU 60

You apparently found what I did. THIS is VERY interesting. Might wanna bookmark this page...Elton Alexander from the Plain Dealer had us at 25, and apparently we have fans in Idaho, because "Idaho Statesman" writer Nick Jezierny has the Zips at 23. Also...Mike Jensen from the Philadelphia Enquirer has the Zips at 25. I'm guessing the 23rd gave us the extra 3 points in the poll if Alexander had us 25 last week as well as Jensen...25th=1pt24th=2pts23rd=3ptsThis being the case, the Zips have a LOT of eyes to open to get up higher. Having a writer from the Philly Enquirer and the "hometown-north" writer on our side isnt a bad place to start. GO ZIPS!

I agree with you 110% Captain!!! I recently took a 7th grader to his 1st Zips game in the JAR (he was wise enough not to wear any OSU gear - even against his mother's suggestion!) But even the 7th grader made the astute observation, "Man, this gym isn't very nice." Wow!So yes Captain, amen! EXCEPT for mentioning the possibility of "a major renovation." I DON'T EVEN WANT TO LEAVE THAT OPEN FOR A POTENTIAL OPTION! We need a BRAND NEW arena - starting from scratch!I believe the parcel of land opposite Canal Park on Main Street was once tossed around as a good spot for a downtown arena? All well and good. Probably not happening in the next decade. We wont even have a new stadium till '09. Barring some major runs YEARLY into the NCAA tournament, and the addition of some HUUUUUUGE corporate backing, the money wont be there for a new arena for many MANY years.

Akron 15-4 (6-1 MAC) vs. Austin Peay 13-6 (10-1 OVC)UGH!EDIT: Thanks Bleacher Bum for the info via text message. Havent heard about tv, but i'm not holding my breath on that one. Maybe 360?

Just did a little number crunching of the teams in the AP poll immediately above the Zips. The new poll will be out tomorrow afternoon, but here is the interesting part: Keep in mind, the zips destroyed a decent WMU team on national television, holding them to just 36 total points and no players in double digits. The teams above the Zips in last weeks polls had records over the last week as follows (teams ranked 19 thru 45):7 teams were 0-21 team was 0-111 teams were 1-11 team was 1-011 teams (including the zips) were 2-0My prediction is at least 10-20 votes, and inside the top 35 for the first time since I can remember. Another 2-0 week next week (apparently emu is not a gimme with the way they dimantled the bulls tonight) and ditto to ball state who destroyed the f.lashes and the zips will crack the top 30.

PainEsville. My hometown Love to see someone from the ol high school on the team. Did he play for Riverside or Harvey HS?

Ok. I had to work today, so this was my first missed game of the season. Just got done watching the game on the DVR. Man, that was a boring first half but nothing looks better than a stomping on national tv. Will it show up in the media poll monday? Hopefully. I'm slightly annoyed at the loser they had doing the halftime rap. One of my biggest pet peeves, he referred to us as ACK-ronn. KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE THE TEAM NAMES IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE A SPORTSCASTER!!! idiot. Anyways, looks like it was a great game. I think I may be heading to Ypsilanti on wednesday if anyone wants to ride.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe we just got a new zippy suit this year or last year. Some friends and I noticed it was a shiny new suit at a football game. It really is a shame if it's that worn out after a year.
-
at this point, i'd like to say "wow," i've only been a member since Feb of last year, and all the sudden there's four porno posts in new threads. stupid porno bots. the zips hate you!
-
Note: If we lose this game to this HORRIBLE team, we don't deserve anything in the MAC let alone ncaa consideration. Wow, NIU is AWFUL.

Fear:I don't think the AP ranks them after the Top 25. AP voting is on points-based system. Each team is awarded a certain number of points based on what ranking the sportwriter gives them (i.e. a 1st place vote is worth much more than a 25th place vote). It usually ends up in the neighborhood of about 45-50 teams receiving votes throughout the middle of the season, hence the Zips being tied for 46th with 2 points. I think this means they likely received two 25th place votes. Breakdown of points, as well as past weeks, go HEREHope that clears it up. OH, if you're looking for a free rpi type ranking for all D-1, go HERE for 66-336 and HERE for 1-65.Hope that's what you wanted.

This is particularly exciting to me because we *****SHOULD***** win the next 5 relatively easily, and possibly gain some more points over the next two polls. I say "should" because we all know how NE Ohio sports go.Oh...and if we can pull one out at Toledo, then we've got OU and the bracketbuster at home. The sky is the limit, GO ZIPS!!Let me pose a question here: Zips somehow win out through the bracketbuster. That puts them at 21-4, are they in the top 25 at that point? (that'd be 12 straight wins by the way)

Toledo 5,143 (20,575; 4 games)Ball State 3,734 (33,606; 8 games)Ohio 3,671 (25,699; 7 games)Buffalo 3,579 (35,792; 10 games)WMU 3,251 (22,760; 7 games)Miami 3,220 (25,764; 8 games)ZIPS 3,058 (24,464; 8 games)K-E-N-T 2,999 (20,997; 7 games)CMU 1,701 (11,912; 7 games)NIU 1,604 (9,629; 6 games)BGSU 1,370 (12,330; 9 games)EMU 695 (5,566; 8 games)Long and short of it.... Zips 7th out of 13 in average attendence, 5th of 13 in overall attendence.Some interesting notes: *EMU's average of 695 includes just one game of more than 1,000 in attendence. *Toledo is starting to look a little tougher with that 4-0 MAC record plus 8-8 overall with only 4 games at home

Wish I could explain it. It's just apathy I think. Oh, and with the difference between end zones...it's the same problem as last year (south end = good and loud, north end = crappy and quiet) I think it's time for athletics and marketing to make an effort to get students to the games instead of just assuming they'll show up. Last year there were several contests like ones for the dorms where the floor with the most students showing up got a pizza party. I dunno...wish the marketing department would do something, period. I'm hoping a big winning streak (some points in the national polls?) will make word spread fast. P.S. I was also disappointed in the showing for the rest of the seats 3,561?!? Ugh, what does it take for this community? There's another thread near this one in the forums about Coach D moving on (unfounded, I know) but if there's one reason for it to happen, it'd be that this dang city just doesnt care enough to show up to support the team/school.

The sad thing is, I have offered countless times my personal communication resources and ideas to the Rowdy leadership to get this research and messages out. No one seems interested or even listening!! actually the AK-Rowdies do this also. A paper, called "the ROWDY" (creative, I know). They only do it for some games though, I dont know why. Should be an every game theme. Maybe with a little personal ammo we couldve covered the spread against muffalo

Balki, you bust me up. I'm finished with this. I'm glad someone thinks i'm a smartass for some reason...maybe i could be balki part deux on these boards. I'm just gonna go to the games and have fun and really really really NOT care that someone thinks i'm part of an embarrassment to the school. Do you guys need a loan? I'll give you the ten bucks to join so you can come sit with us. Seriously, it's not that bad... I wish we could get away with having the rule that you have to only be wearing AKRON clothing of some kind in the student section but it's not my call. They're allowing sign ups again soon, come down and join us and fill those sections up. We all know that 75% of those that showed up for K.e.n.t. won't be in the stands for Buffalo. How 'bout we call a truce, join forces and be loud as hell. I'll only disagree in the fact that you can be the nice friendly positive cheering folks and i'm gonna be rude, crude and downright mean to our opponents. You gotta get in the opposing teams heads, and you know they can hear us. GO ZIPS and hope to see the any/all of the "anti" rowdies sitting behind the baskets with me.

Yep. I'm done. I'm clearly a better fan than all of you because I bought a Zippy beanie baby and paid my whole tuition bill last week. Oh...and did anyone else notice it took till the 8th game of the season for this to happen? I didnt see any of those kids at the other games (and they didnt even enforce the silly tshirt rule). The days of showing up 2 minutes before tip-off and getting whatever seat you want (especially for big games) are over. GO ZIPS, see you all tomorrow.
