When things go bad it is clearly all the fault of Joe Dunn.

Ernest F. Zeigler III Suspended by Pitt
The Hip Zip replied to ZZZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Bingo, by far the most overhyped guy that I have seen coming into the MAC. Ernie was a horrible coach as well. -
That had to be one hell of a HS team. Tell me that they didn't blow it and were state champs.

The Jays are the real deal. I've seen them play twice and they are tough. The one thing that surprised me is how phyiscal they are. I thought that the Badgers would push them around quit a bit but the Jays held their own and then some. Our trump card may be how many big bodies we can throw at them. They will be very hard to beat.

Zeke Named to PR Tipoff All Tournament Team
The Hip Zip replied to dboze's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Love the 'swagger" and confidence of Zeke's quotes. As far as I am concerned, it has been the only thing missing from his game. The sky is indeed the limit. -
Nice to see CG getting his stroke back

I blame Mc Nees. ( That is a joke, going back to all the venom spit his way his senior year.) This is our first game with all our pieces in place, we'll be fine.
-
Note to Rico: You have a lot of talent on the floor with you. You are a point guard so please quit jacking up 23 footers when your stroke has not been solid at all. Pass the ball.

Laughed my ass off when reading this. Lumberjack, you are A OK in my book. We lost a game yet I'm pretty sure the sun will come up tomorrow.

I have little doubt that we were the better team but just couldn't throw it in the ocean. I know Rico isn't 100% but man, he was bad today. He may have been pressing a little and trying too hard in his home town. Had he just had an average game we win. he'll bounce back and so will the Zips

The Cowpokes did not impress in their opener. A bigW is still well within our abilities

Hey Amanda, I messaged you back. If you happen to see this open your message and give me a call. Thanks, Mark

My golf partner is a k E N T St grad and he has season tickets so I went to the game with him. Hard as it was for me to do so, I always root for the other MAC teams to do well against foes from other conferences and in particular talented teams like Temple. So I have to come clean, I was hoping that K E N T could take down the Owls. So here is my take on the Flashes. K E N T will go only as far as Evans, Holt and Brewer will carry them.Although they out rebounded the Owls, they are pretty soft inside and Temple got inside with ease. The K E N T crowd was very critical of the officials because of the 22-13 personal foul advantage that Temple enjoyed but the f lashes were always a step slow on the defensive end and had to do a lot of reaching and hacking. Henniger is getting more minutes and he tries and works hard inside but gets little help in the paint. I have never thought that much of Holt. He's a real streaky shooter. Sometimes he's great and sometimes not but he was well guarded and only got off 8 shots. Brewer was their best player on the floor on this day but other than the three I mentioned at the top the rest of the f lashes were very quiet. K E N T lacks any real quality depth as well. Their bench was badly outscored by Temple's and only 6'8" freshman Chris Ortiz looked decent out there. The rest of Can't's second unit looked very tenative and uncomfortable on the floor. Bottom line is that K E N T should still be able to compete and beat western division teams but should not pose any threat at all to the Zips OU and probably even the Bulls. As of now I'd rate them just about at the same level as BG. The highlight of the day was when F L A S H the K S U mascot came uo to greet me in my seat and rub my bald head for luck. As he/ she did so I squeezed off a pretty loud " GO ZIPS !!" That went over real well with the K S U season ticket holders that we were seated with. Serves 'em right.

Good to see you posting LJ. I agree that this team has more potential than any Akron team that I have observed. Though Q's problems are truly unfortunate, looks to me that CG will benefit. He should get more minutes and be a true leader on the floor.

I actually have 2 pair of these in my size (12). I believe that they fell off of a truck back in '09. They are still new in the original box. I'm keeping one pair but would part with the other pair for the right offer. These were by far the best looking shoe that the Zips have played in, IMO

Exactly, 'Stain had Hawkins on the verge of a nervous breakdown. He just couldn't deal with this guy. On game day he appeared to be a great team player but the guy has major anger management problems that boiled over to the point that they were the norm rather than the exception. While the guy has undeniable talent, I don't think that I'd want him. Dambrot would have none of his antics and in time he'd be outta here as well.

Ernie sucked but he dressed well. The real question is where does Trey drop anchor ??

Next Years, Hopes, Dreams, Doubts, and Fears.
The Hip Zip replied to Derrt's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Nothing personal, but I'll look at the '12-'13 roster as addition through subtraction -
I know that I'll get pelted with tomatoes for praising the Zips in a loss but that fast break had to be the prettiest I have ever seen of a center running the floor. Perfect pass, perfect catch, perfect finish. Outstanding !

Northwestern Information Thread
The Hip Zip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Can't let Northwestern's John Shurna get off tonight. He has the same range as DJ and can throw it in from the parking lot. When he gets rolling they are tough to stop. -
EVERYBODY !! Step away from the keyboard and chill. This thread has turned a bit ugly and is not in the best interest of ANYBODY !! As somebody said before, take a deep breath. Sometimes passion ignites raw emotion and we say things that we shouldn't air out on a public message board. We would all be much better served to give it a rest.

I'm too lazy to look it up but it is not a huge expense as I seem to recall. The Rockets are fun to watch and have created a bit of a buzz in NW Ohio. Hopefully they make a good showing. I'll be rooting for all MAC teams in the post season as I always have. This year I'll make no exceptions. Even though it will be stretch with OU and their fan base, I'll suck it up for the best interest of the MAC and a few extra dollars in the coffers.

I agree with most here, KD himself stated that Chauncey had made sacrifices for the good of the team this season. I'd probably give him an incomplete because the total package has yet to be seen. I just hope like hell that he gets turned loose a little next season. It bothered me that in a game where we struggled to find any offense that CG spent most of the night on the bench. On the drive, CG and QD are among the best finishers that I have EVER seen at UA. I am already anxious to see them on the floor much more next season in an offense that should be geared up to feature their talents.

as long as their name came up, keep in mind that the Shockers parlayed their NIT bid into a 27-5 team this season that can make some real noise in the tourney.

I think that Josh will be a nice addition to the rotation. He gives us another big with some great hops and should get plenty of minutes.
