This would make some sense because the MAAC plays their conference games on Friday nights.

I'd love to develop a regular home and home relationship with anybody in the top half of the MVC / A10 or Horizon which we already do to an extent. MVC match ups would really be entertaining with the likes of the Shockers etc. Love to see a big 10 team come here as well. Keady brought Purdue in here back in 2000 or so, why can't somebody else??

I agree, that you could go crazy trying to figure who we will be facing. I wouldn't even mind Mizz St though their RPI is below us. Other factors are considered as well and I'll tell you what, Nobody walks into those MVC arenas and gets an easy W. Iona would be a great opponent as well due to their fly up and down the floor tempo. That one would be great to watch. When it comes down to the pairings being released tomorrow I am expecting the unexpected. -
Not a problem Ada. My point was simply that they are not particularly good teams, especially with the ball, but their style of play can make some decent teams look bad. Eastern zones really well but I think we have the guys to go over the top of it. I'd be shocked if we lost to them. Getting to Western, they have been banged up all season long and still are with Ward having a knee problem. On top of that their big guy, Stainbrook is a bit of a nutcase and him and Hawkins have been at odds all season. So much so that Hawkins left him in KZoo for their last road trip. He played against Miami but didn't start yesterday. Anyways, through all of this crap Hawkins has watched a couple of bench players step up and play really well. Whittington is a big guy that can rebound and bang pretty well and a little guard named Richie that can knock down threes. They have been tough as hell at home, I don't think that they have dropped any and this includes a spanking of Duquense. This is the one loss that I can easily see happening. I'll bet you a hoppin Frog on the outcome

Well then, do tell what you know about Western Mich ? Because I've been watching them and they will be a handful when we come calling. And don't put words in my mouth. In no way did I suggest that we would lose to EMU.

Count me in into the enjoy the W camp. Sure, we don't always look good against some of these western division teams and especially on the road. Teams like Central, and Eastern just make you look bad due to their style of play. They know that they can't run with our guys and their only hope is to run the clock down and play physical basketball. Eastern Mich is getting really good at this. They can't score 60 pts a game and sometimes not even 50. They just hang around long enough that they have a chance to win it late by making a couple of plays. While we all want a western sweep,I think that 5-1 vs the West is a passing grade and I'll gladly take the W at Central and come home. (Too many minutes for #5 though, this game was probably his poorest of them all)

I do want to play the best team. Just indicating that a trip to N or S Dakota is more than just a remote possibility. The Jackrabbits, in particular, are a very good team. As far as us playing the Racers, I have a feeling that the BB people will pair St Mary with Murray St. -
Will Zeke will be back?
The Hip Zip replied to MontrealExposloveZippy's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
To suggest that Zeke is even close to being ready for the NBA at this point is just insane. Look, I love the guy and everything about him but he's not there yet. -
Chris McKnight continues to play well also

After watching OU beat Western tonight I saw coach Groce go up to the student section and shake their hands and thank them. I know that Reggie Witherspoon and his players take a trip around the arena shake hands after games as well. I believe that this is a great practice to make the fans and team feel as if they are all dependent on one another to achieve a common goal. I'd love to see a tradition like this begin at the JAR. Ultimately, I think that this would help build an even stronger bond between the team and it's loyal fans and possibly increase attendance as well. What could it hurt?? ** Obviously, the title should read; Something that I'd love to see here

Couldn't agree more. I just don't like the new look. I don't care for the A on the shorts either, the way that it sits behind the striping just looks odd to me. I think the kids all wanted the grey though. Maybe Keith gave in to the team's wishes??

Correct, it seemed as though because we got them back for a return game in '09. I'm glad we are done with Shaka's boys. Seems we just can't beat them, even when we are the better side. -

I too would love a shot at the Racers but would be well satisfied with a nice road win an Mizz St. or Iona. I've never been to the Dakotas though. They say its lovely there in February. -
I agree with that to a point but he had a pretty bad game otherwise. He got lost on defense a few times and tried to force his offensive game. He's young and nights like this will happen. I hope that he realizes that he still has a lot to work on and that he stays grounded. The great thing is that this team can get by when guys like Harney and Zeke have no offensive impact at all.
-
That's just not his game. Right now he's a spot up 3 pt shooter who can't shoot. To his credit, he did hit a very big 3 that started the run against the flashes but much more often than not he's simply a liability out there. McNees struggled with his once reliable stroke his senior year and it appears that the same has happened to Nitro. It's puzzling to say the least. Perhaps he's trying too hard instead of just naturally letting it fly ??? I just can't understand it.

Ahhhh, Much better JSF. Hell, I have it the same way the same way 1-4 but in my mind BG may be slightly better than BSU and I'd give Western the nod over Eastern. Other than that I think you nailed it this week.
-
The bad : We played about as poorly as we possibly could. The good: We played that poorly and are only down 3. No doubt in my mind as to who the better team is here. Time to get our act together.

The biggest question remains. Can Joe Dunn actually smile??
-
Worried about a letdown after our finest half of hoops in many a moon vs. our arch rival. Still, we don't lose to Ball St and the East owns the west in crossover play. It won't be easy at all but:Akron 71Ball St 69

As we head into the Testicle Tech game MD Zip has risen to the top of the Zip fans at a very fine 24-6. BMiller and me( spang99) are close behind at 23-7 with jjslaga, hilltopper, Zip watcher, kangarew and a Zips fan all at 22-8. A few at 21-9 as well. Lots of games left so the honor of the top Akron prognosticator is wide open.

Well, since you brought it up I need to get this one off of my chest. I can not recall all of the details but I believe the opponent was Western Ky. We had seats near the visitors bench and the time was winding down, way down and I needed two pts to cash my ticket. The Zips had an insurmountable lead with just a few seconds left and the W Ky coach had called the dogs off and was content to hop on the bus to get home. Andy Hipsher had the ball and I just started shouting " Foul... Foul" at the top of my lungs. So this kid from w Ky runs clear across the floor to grab Andy as time was winding down. I guess he's the only one that heard me. Anyways, Andy hit one of the two so I turned a loser into a push. My wife turned 5 shades of red but money is money. True story

Oh what a night. I guess you didn't have to look past the fact that Bryan Hipsher started and got 17 minutes to understand what went wrong. Also interesting is that TV Ted was officiating.
