I just took the survey...I think this is a great sign of things to come...They ask for comments at the end...I added that I would love to see an enclosed stadium to be used for football, basketball and the pro soccer team which the County is attempting to attrack...I know that this will never happen, meaning basketball, soccer ect...Big, big step with this survey!

I have Browns tickets and am a little frustrated at this start time. The U. should never complain about attendance again when they schedule games during a Browns game that most sports fans will want to watch. I sure there is a logical reason and would love to hear it. I am a season ticket holder Basketball and I always hate missing a game. Go Zips!

Word is that this week The U. just got another $1,000,000 donation for the stadium!

Watch Out Ron Artest and AI...Here Comes DP!!!
Akron1 replied to Beanie 4 Heisman's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I’m sure the coaching staff just loves the “weed†reference. Wonder if this is why DP had so many DNP’s. But, I enjoyed watching him play for the Zips. -
Easy...Easy...The Zips have won 20 games so far...Let's just say your right about these statements, that Ced is better than Dru...Dru who according to the PD today is a candidate for "Player of the Year" in the MAC...Any good/great team has a spark or two that comes off the bench and right now Ced and Preston are those guys...I hope none of you were booing LeBron on Friday, too...My point is enjoy what we have and support this team and its players.

I've heard it discussed before, but I still think the Z..I..P..S..ZIPS! ZIPS! ZIPS! Cheer would work just like the J..E..T..S..JETS! JETS! JETS! Cheer does so well in New York. The more students that come and show great support, maybe just maybe they give the students the chair backs (or portion of) on the team side of the court. I know wishful thinking. But then us season ticket holders could fill the entire blue seats. Keep up the good work and keep growing.

French is fine. The problem is 1350 AM, you cannot hear it outside of Akron city limits. If the non-belivers can't hear it how are they going to know just how good this program is. So my point is reconfigure the following: A new radio broadcast station(FM).The dance team...get rid of them.More pep band.Better concession stands...No more warm drinks! And faster lines.Keep winning!

By Joel Welserjwelser@collegehoops.netJanuary 28th, 2006 Bracket Buster PredictionsThis year’s Bracket Buster is loaded with talent on the side of the designated home teams. That will make for an unpredictable announcement of scheduled games come January 29th, however it may make for some less than competitive games as well. Nonetheless, I’ll take a stab at predicting what I think are fair and interesting match-ups for ESPN's Bracket Buster Saturday.Bucknell at Northern IowaThis is the cream of the crop right here and could actually bust a bracket. UNI should be in either way, but Bucknell could use another big road win to leave little doubt if they stumble heading into the NCAAs. George Mason at Wisconsin-MilwaukeeThe Colonial Athletic Association is eyeing two bids into the NCAAs. A good conference showing on February 18th is a necessity and George Mason winning on the road against a Sweet Sixteen team from a year ago would be the marquee victory.Northwestern State at Southern IllinoisThe Devils of Northwestern State have victories in Starkville and Stillwater, but if we’ve learned anything over the last few years, it is that nobody comes away from Carbondale with a win. It would be huge for the Devils and the Southland Conference, but at the least, it gives an underappreciated team like Northwestern State some much deserved television exposure.Oral Roberts and MontanaThis one might be down the list a ways according to the RPI, but these are two teams you might see in March. Both teams are currently second place in their respective conferences, but have plenty of firepower to overtake the leaders, or at least win the conference tournament. Despite an overall generally disappointing season for ORU, they still have the dynamic duo of Caleb Green and Ken Tutt, who are a must watch if this game makes it on the family of networks.Akron at Utah StateAkron may be the team to beat in the MAC and there is no better way to prove that than with a win in Logan. Utah State doesn’t have much room for error and another quality win would help out the old RPI coming down the stretch. It isn’t a must win for the Aggies, but it will be for Akron if they slip in Cleveland and still plan to have higher aspirations than the NIT. When will we hear?!?!?!?

I think Wood wants to play a year out of Romeo's growing shadow, since the Red Shirt seperates the two by a year.

Zips picked second, just behind defending conference tournament champion Ohio University Oct. 27, 2005 CLEVELAND - The University of Akron men's basketball team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference East Division in a poll released Thursday by the MAC News Media Association in conjunction with the MAC Men's Basketball Media Day at the Renaissance Hotel. Ohio was picked to win the East Division and as the tournament champion, with Miami (Ohio) and Can't State tying for third place, and Buffalo and Bowling Green occupying the fifth- and sixth-place spots, respectively. The News Media Association chose Toledo as the favorite in the West Division for the second-straight year. Ball State and Western Michigan were selected 2-3, with Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan rounding out the group. Akron, which is led by second-year head coach Keith Dambrot, returns four starters from last season including leading scorer and honorable mention All-MAC choice senior forward Darryl Peterson (Cincinnati,Ohio/Western Hills). Peterson averaged 12.9 points-per-game in helping UA to a second-place tie in the MAC East Division last season, with a 19-10 overall mark and an 11-7 record in league play. The 19 wins are its most since the 1988-89 team posted a 21-8 mark. Along with Dambrot, UA was represented at Thursday's media day by junior forward Romeo Travis (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St, Mary), who was one of 10 student-athletes selected to the Preseason All-MAC Team. An All-MAC second-team pick last season, Travis ranked second for the Zips in scoring (11.9 ppg) as well as in rebounding (7.4 rebounds-per-game), while his 45 blocks and 35 steals led the team. The Zips play host to California (Pa.) in an exhibition contest Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. EST at Rhodes Arena, and open the regular season at home against Youngstown State on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. 2005-06 Mid-American Conference News Media Association Preseason Poll East Division 1. Still hearing Wood will not be ready for the opener. But, Dials will be ready sooner than anyone thought. Maybe we will hear more tonight. Post anything you hear!

I heard he is tall and very skinny. He will need a lot of work and a lot of muscle before he sees any playing time. They like his height and they think he still might grow a few more inches. He has grown something like 7 inches in the past 2+ years. Lets keep our fingers crossed that he developes.

I was told by a coach that Nick WANTS to be back by the end of December, but the coach thought the Zips would be lucky to get him back by late in the MAC season. He couldn't answer the Medical Red-shirt question. The U. is looking into how or if, Nick could get the extra year if he sat out 05/06.

Non Conference Opponents -- It's Official
Akron1 replied to Zippy989's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I like everything but "Wed. Dec. 7 Denison." Those non-Division I teams, always kill the the MAC schools for the at-large bids. -

Nuggets power forward Nene will be among the 15 or 20 players that will work out with LeBron James in Akron in late July or August. ''He's got a gym he uses (in Akron), and it's a controlled environment,'' Cleveland-based agent Michael Coyne said. The Morning Journal 2005 Lebron works out in Memorial Hall...Some nice open gyms for the Zips!

Was that Zip Watcher at the Gund laying it in for a Giant Eagle gift card? If so good job! Way to represent the Zips Nation!

Zips are young and make plenty of mistakes like missed bunnies, poor FT and lazy passes, but they find a way to out run, out hustle and out last teams. Lets see what happens Saturday. Go ZIPS!!!
