Chipotle is coming! Chipotle is coming!
Akron1 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Not sure of the name of the bar, but heard they want it to be more of a professional bar. Downtown workers, doctors and attorneys. Supposed to be pretty nice. -
Best Men's Athletic Program in the Country

Did I miss a blurb in the ABJ or on GoZips.com about the Zips leading the Capital One Cup Standings? -
Chipotle is coming! Chipotle is coming!

Also, a new bar opening at the old Whiskey Dick's in the next month or two. -
My predictions: Zips win big. Athletic Department hands out free GA's at the soccer match and the basketball game get 5,000 for opening night! The atmosphere is great at the JAR and we all post what a great job the Athletic Department is doing to promote the men's basketball team.

The players aren't going to change and exhausting time trying to change them is a waste. He needs to treat them like adults and demand performance on the court. It is a different generation, and let's face it, KD is a coach at an average mid major program....not exactly John Wooden. That's the kind of respect a coach at his level gets. How can they focus more on defense? Are we going to become a Coles coached Miami? Good luck filling the seats with that style and getting good players who want to play that style. If KD really wants to take it to another level, he needs to loosen up a little and be a little creative. I stand corrected...Cotton, Kool, Bassett and Medlock were shut down.

I just want all of the players to respect Dambrot. It seemed like every time someone is taken out of the game or walking to the locker room at the half, a player was barking at KD. Nikola Cvetinovic was the most common offender. KD is a great coach and these young men need to learn to understand, he is the boss and the players need to do their assigned jobs during the games. I'm sure he is open to discussion about things concerning the flow of the game, but enough is enough. It felt like the Hipsher days. So my suggestion to KD is to get our players to grow up, keep their mouths shut and continue to make defense our main focus. Also, for the players to have some pride and play like you want to win a tournament (CBI). Those seniors had one last chance at making some history and the Zips looked like that was the last place they wanted to be. I understand how emotional the MAC Tournament was, but the CBI could have helped heal those wounds, it would have helped the MAC and sent our seniors out the right way.

Bring back the Rock-n-Roll Shoot Out. Invite teams that travel well, like Kentucky, Ohio State or West Virginia, and play Akron, CSU or Can't. Akron, CSU and Can't can each participate two out of three years and the same goes for the bigger schools. The double header was a fun event.

I heard ticket sales are "very disappointing." Let's spread the word to get as many fans there as possible.
-
My list is: 1. Less Recorded Music and More Pep Band. 2. Friendlier Usher/Ticket Takers. Take a lesson from The Q., every employee at The Q., smiles, thanks you and says goodbye, it helps create a fun atmosphere. 3. Bring back the "In Game Host." The guy from 2008-2009 season was great and got the crowd fired up. 4. A weekly televised Dambrot Show on STO or any channel. 5. Fill that place one way or another. Lower ticket prices or give out more tickets to sell more food and merchandise. Fill the JAR and then raise prices. 6. Have a well advertised and easy to use ticket turn in program, where a season ticket holder can sell their lower bowl tickets and help fill those seats up. I know a guy who buys eight seats and uses two every game with the exception of the Can't game. That's a great supporter, but six blue empty seats always looks bad.

$20 for Lowers, $15 for Uppers, $10 for Adult and $5 for a Child. I would guess 400 fans as the over/under. I think $10 a ticket with buy one get one, would give our seniors a chance to go out with a respectable crowd. Does the CBI have a hand in setting the prices? Go Zips!

Bottom line...We are better off today than we were prior to KD's arrival. NCAA appearance goes a long way with me. You must win the MAC to go to the NCAA, whether you have 12 wins or 27. The MAC just does not get two teams. So, to solve this problem we need to get attendance up and get into the Big East.

This is the fifth-straight 20-win season for our Zips. How many wins will we get this season, with four to go plus the MAC tournament and maybe beyond (23 in 2005-06, 26 in '06-07, 24 in '07-08, 23 in '08-09)? How important has Dambrot been to this program? Thanks to all the players and coaches that have helped make our winters enjoyable over the last five seasons.Go Zips!

Why doesn't Akron have a TV channel?
Akron1 replied to Spin's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I would love to see a weekly show featuring Zip's Football and Men's Basketball on STO or FSN produced by The U of A. -
You picked the Browns over the Zips?Yes, I picked the Browns over our Zips. Today, I saw Josh Cribbs set an all-time NFL kickoff return record with his eighth career return for a TD and Jerome Harrison run for a Browns single-game rushing record of 286 yards (that's the third best rushing day in NFL history). My point is...why go up against the Browns/NFL, when attendance struggles like it does. I just think it is a poor decision by The University of Akron. Go Zips!To imply that the University of Akron simply decided to go up against the Browns (who are an awful excuse for entertainment btw, todays result not withstanding) is drastically oversimplifying the amount of factors that go into scheduling these games. Not implying, just stating a fact concerning the start time. You can't tell me that they could not have scheduled the game for 5, 6 or 7 PM. Again, talking about the start time (2 PM) not the dates. I just know that our group of four men and a few fans in our section all chose not to attend because of the Browns game. It was a big topic Friday night. How about noon? Then any Browns fans can still see the end of the game. I think the U of A should look at a few factors when scheduling their start times. We could not give our tickets away today. We make every effort to not have a seat go unused, if someone is unable to attend. There is another topic that should be started, how can season ticket holders sell or donated their unused tickets, so we do not have to see so many blue seats from game to game.

Fifteenth year as a season ticket holder for Zips basketball and I have missed 3 home games during that time. I will miss three this season due to the Zips scheduling games against the Browns and the rest of the NFL. I know the Browns stink, and it is impossible to please all of the fans, but a 5 PM, 6 PM or a 7 PM start would work when going against the Browns.

Rasor on the Zips...FootballCoachScoop.com is reporting that Akron's next head coach will be Rob Ianello, the top offensive assistant coach at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis. The ABJ's Tom Gaffney has confirmed that the university will hold a press conference tomorrow (Thursday) at noon to announce the new hire, and Ianello is the leading candidate and interviewed on Tuesday. Ed Warinner, the offensive coordinator at Kansas, is another candidate. He interviewed on Monday.

-
What would it take from The U of A to get him?Would he be the right fit?Is now the right time for Kehres to cash in and take such a job?
-
Sources tell FootballCoachScoop that Athletic Director Tom Wistrcill is very interested in talking with Luke Fickell (Ohio State Co-Defensive Cooridantor/Linebacker Coach), Ron Vanderlinden (Penn State Linebacker Coach/Former Maryland HC), Scot Loeffler (Florida Quarterbacks Coach), Paul Chryst (Wisconsin Offensive Coordinator), Paul Winters (Wayne State Head Coach), Don Treadwell (Michigan State Offensive Coordinator) and Mark Snyder (Marshall Head Coach).

I think a good candidate will be Scot Loeffler. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=27

Why not renovate the Knight Center which still could be used for the limited conventions it gets and make it so it can accommodate Zips basketball and any other sport the city wants to try to bring in. The U already has a vested interest in the property and it is next to the Quaker Dorms on campus, not to mention it is downtown.

Did any recruits make it to the Wine and Gold game on Saturday. I saw Dambrot there getting lots of love from the Cavs.
