  1. AHA! Now we know who to blame for the state of Zip football. It's not the players, it's not the coaches; it's Zach and Big Zip's fault.
  2. Hey, a win will get us off the bottom ten list just in time for the end of the season.
  3. ................................................................................
  4. You, my friend, are a prognosticating genius!
  5. I believe we will down the Wild Fuzzy Cows by 14.
  6. My proposal would correct the attendance problem at once and regardless of the team's performance. In case you have forgotten - naked cheerleaders.
  7. Have your eyes checked after you play Butler. I know more about the Horizon League than you do. Luckily our league has an online video network: HorizonLeagueNetwork in which you can see all the teams play their home games live for free. I've seen a great deal of basketball on there the last two years and I am telling you: Butler, Detroit, and Cleveland State will duel it out for the #1 spot in the Horizon this year. Hell Dickie V even went out on a limb to say that Detroit could be this year's Butler and make a deep run in the tourney. Expect 2, perhaps 3, from the HL to make the tourney this year. Sorry, I didn't realize you were a Horizon league expert. When do you think Ngai Evans will be ready to step back into the starting lineup?
  8. Have your eyes checked after you play Butler.
  9. Isn't that true of everything? no.
  10. Having viewed both Bardo and Euton in person for the first time, I have concluded that one of them isn't nearly as bad nor the other nearly as good as some of you believe.
  11. Hey Jupiter, Is anything more known about Coleman & Kellogg (older)? Are they with the team at all? Gone for good? Coleman is definitely gone. It looked like he was reconsidering, but he became enamored with his prospects (cough, cough) for riches as a music artist. Kellogg (older) is a puzzle. There's some speculation that he saw he wasn't going to get the paying time he had imagined and just decided to end his career. The younger Kellogg seems to be a nice player. Just needs the game to slow down for him a bit. DJ Cooper is even better this year, from what I've seen. He'll need to be especially good in the early portion of the schedule until some of his young teammates get some experience. Overall, I don't see the Bobcats as a championship caliber team this year. The next two years could be very special, though. Freudian slip?
  12. Well a lot of people on this board consider iCoach a black eye on the Zip's program. That may have helped us in this ranking.
  13. thank you. When he took the timeout I was like, "somebody on ZNO is going to complain about that, and I am going to completely lose faith in UA fans." But thankfully you brought me hope. The last timeout was a no-brainer. The way MU was putting together drives, one timeout wouldn't have made a difference. It seemed the only place we were able to stop them was in the red zone. I still liked what I saw. Nice job on the no huddle. It is clear Nicely is young. Who is our QB coach? I feel with a good mentor he could be lights out. Good one.
  14. How about if they just make shots without the harmony??? What are the other factors??? Nothing esoteric here. Team Sports 101 starts with a definition of team: A group of people organized to work together. By definition, the better they work together, the better they are going to perform as a team. Effectively passing the ball around to try to find the open player with the highest percentage available shot would be an example of good basketball teamwork that would lead to higher team shooting percentages. Eventually, someone has to make the shot. That's individual play. Team chemistry is simply the sum of all interactions between individual players that affect team performance. I don't understand.
  15. Had the inept meter on last night's contest. While the offense remains inept, the defense registered as ept.
  16. It's a shame Steve is a senior. The kind of team that he fits on will be next years Zips team more than likely. That turnover and foul of his in the back court with 4:32 left was the beginning of the end. I'm here to defend Steve. In the first half Steve launched a deep three ball that caught all air. Our basket was the end full of Dayton students and band. They mercilessly chanted "airball" every time Steve touched the ball. That has to be unnerving. That tended to intimidate Steve as it would nearly any player. I think a mistake was made late in the first half where Steve got a 30 second "blow". KD then put Steve back in the game and yanked Abreu. I saw no reason to not rest Steve the rest of the half. In the second half Steve had the composure to drill a nice three pointer; followed by a second one in short order. It was not long before the chants of "airball" dried up. Good job Steve. Late in the game I think Steve was out of gas. This is where KD has to trust Abreu and rest Steve for a minute or two. Brian Gregory was far more effective rotating his players. Not good. I saw the rebroadcast of the game on TV and TV can't do justice to the noise level in their arena. The "airball" taunts would certainly have an effect on most guys who play rec league basketball. They had NO EFFECT on Steve.
  17. Shaking my head at this comment. Dayton was tough as nails the entire game. There was no sleep walking, meandering or other such nonsense. Confined to the rafters, us few and very cramped Zips fans who ventured to Dayton in the stretch limo (I'll NEVER do that again) can attest to the fact that Dayton never once let up off their go pedal. Dayton just had way too many bigs for the Zips. Their overall athleticism did the young Zips in. I read in the Dayton News this morning that one of their star players commented that they were a young team just learning each other. Baloney, Dayton started three seniors, one a first team All-American in Chris Wright, and two juniors. If that's youth, I'm a coocoo clock. If Chris Wright is a first team All-American you're a frisbee. Edit: you should have come down and sat with the 20 or so Zip fans behind the bench. Several seats were available. Right before the game one guy who I don't believe had a ticket came down, showed his Akron shirt, and joined the group.
  18. Finally got to see the Zips live. Great atmosphere. Think Egner's dad was sitting behind the bench wearing Josh's number. Joe Morgan of some pro baseball renown was sitting across the court. Unfortunately, Zeke specialized in picking up fouls tonight. Egner didn't really do much when he was in but looks very athletic. Abeau (sp?) is going to be good. Nik very workman like; seven boards in the first half (don't know how many he wound up with for the game). The people around me were most impressed with McClanahan. Euton was very mechanical/stiff and lofted a couple of threes from the palm of his hand; what do you know, nothing but net on both. The Flyer coach (who could make a living as a Michael J. Fox impersonator because he looks and sounds a LOT like him) gushed about KD and the Zips in the post game interview.
  19. Dennis Helsel was one of the nicer people I've ever met. And Dennis has written some great books: http://www.practicalstats.com/nada/nada/nadatext.html One of the nicer guys from Akron I ever met was Fred Milo.
  20. I get what you were saying. I don't think you do get it Max. His point was that they didn't have any hot dogs at the DMV either!
  21. I like the fact that Dayton Doug thinks the game is being played on Friday. If the Fighten Flyers are thinking the same thing that will give us 96 hours to build up a lead.
  22. As discussed in a separate thread, Zipmeister will be sitting 4 rows behind the Akron bench.
  23. Where do you get the idea that Thunderstruck is a basketball or football song? It's a helicopter song. for proof click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f1cwycSWq0
  24. That is true and many schools including much bigger basketball powers than Univ of Akron do the same thing. It has to do with a combination of getting rid of exhibitions against Industrial teams and the different start dates of the seasons for different levels of schools. Ahha, now I understand. I look forward to future explanations by the Dr. You know, in past seasons we were always something of a disorganized rabble in the "pre-season". I am VERY impressed with these two games. While the opponents are not D-1 class in any way, our guys seemed to be playing as a TEAM, and showing all kinds of ability. In the past, the coach had to get them all on the same page. This year it really looks like we have some TALENT. I do not think it is impossible that we could break into the top 25 at some point this year. We do have the players. I agree. The key was avoiding the industrial teams in the preseason.
