Ask and you shall receive. This is accurate to the end of the 2008 season. Men's Soccer 2009 media guide, page 36 Interesting historical insight I noticed -- Akron lost to Michigan State in the NCAA tournament three straight years '66-'68. All at Akron. Is it time to schedule the Spartans for old time sake? At that time the three major powers in college soccer were St. Louis, Indiana and Michigan State. The 1-0 tournament loss to the Spartans in '68 was particularly depressing because we beat them 4-Zip during the regular season.

So let me get this straight. Since Chad Johnson wanted to play soccer, all American soccer players are as good of athletes as Chad Johnson. Kansas City (over half of their players are not from the United States) beats Manchester United in a "friendly contest". I'm sure this game was more like a preseason baseball game than a real game. If being able to run a long way makes one in great shape and better shape than people who play other sports, then marathon runners must be the greatest athletes in the world and not NBA players? Sorry bobbyake, your facts are weak at best and prove little. Here is how I see it. Chad Johnson is a world class athlete and probably ran circles around the little kids on the pitch (what a stupid name). At some point there was no challenge to it so he challenged himself with better athletes. Those athletes were playing football and not soccer. See preseason game analogy for KC vs ManU. Running and bouncing a ball off of your head while collapsing in pain after nobody touches you doesn't make one a great athlete. In Europe, great athletes are playing soccer...In the US, great athletes like Chad Johnson are playing football, basketball and some play baseball. Chad Johnson wasn't good enough to play soccer at the next level, that's why he's an NFL Receiver. He's stated before that he'd rather be playing soccer. And yes, I think soccer players are better athletes than Chad Ochocinco. Can you prove me wrong? No, because there's no way to prove who's a better athlete. That's why this is an idiots statement: The U.S. best athletes play what they're best at, it doesn't matter what they prefer or like better. Jordan played basketball instead of baseball, Lebron played basketball instead of football, Chad Ochocinco played football instead of soccer. The list goes on. If you're talented for a certain sport, you play that sport. Football requires muscle and quickness, soccer requires endurance, speed, and a strong leg. Very different requirements. Your comment should get the reward for dumbest comment of the year. Despite your terrible grammar, I have to go with you on that one. The ladies have always held a special attraction to me which is why I became really good at the pole vault.

Rowdies were amazing!!
Zipmeister replied to LosAngelesZipFan's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Definitely. The 'Rowdies sounded great on tv. What if the 'Rowdies would come up with some chants to sing during the basketball game? I think you guys have a nation reputation now as America's soccer hooligans. Maybe carry that over into the JAR. Would that help get some more 'Rowdies out to support the b-ball Zippers? I don't know; those guys singing outdoors is one thing, but indoors might get a little flaming and we don't need that. -
I failed your quiz cause you don't specify a time period for either question 2 or 3 and your answer to question 3 must be written in a code that I cannot decipher.

Him score heap many touchdowns, Kemosabe! Hey Kemo Sabay, for the correct spelling of Kemo Sabay check out how Clayton spelled it on your poster.

The "final whistle next December" would be 12 months. You remind me of the old saying: there are only three kinds of people in this world, those that can count and those that can't. -
Congratulations from Louisville

My favorite passage from your link: "Ken Lolla, the best in the college game, pitting his team against a rock-solid program that he began in Akron." With over two dozen NCAA appearances, Ken didn't begin Akron's rock-solid program, but he did an acceptable job of maintaining it while he was here. -

I thought they played better against Michigan this year, twice. But the stakes weren't as high as they were for this one. That's what makes this one the best performance. Given your tender age and naiveté, so as not to be a party pooper I will defer to your definition of the best performance ever (however, I always considered the 4-0 win over Michigan State during the 1968 regular season to be pretty special also). Congratulations Zips. -

Way to go Zips. This is the kind of game that should have been televised. But no, I have to go out and purchase a short wave radio and pick up a faint transmission out of Guam. Come on TV folks, get on the stick. -

Ah. Thank you for the clarification. That makes much more sense. The institution of higher learning formerly known as Morris Harvey. -
Certainly it must be the mighty North Carolinians. For the answer, see: http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/soccer...n-santa-barbara And for you young whipper snappers still in school, a good number of the Akron appearances happened before vou were born.

The #4 Hilltoppers have a big game Saturday as they take on #23 Northern Kentucky. John Wolosinczuk from Hoban High is averaging more than 10 points per game while playing less than 20 minutes per game. Its about time we started to cover West Liberty on this board. Maybe if they scheduled tOSU we would discuss them here more often. -
