  1. My prediction of a 14 point Akron win was based on the assumption that we would be playing a 4-3. If we are really going to play a 3-4 I am changing my prediction to a two touchdown - two extra point win.
  2. I just called the ticket office to see how many tickets were sold. I have 2 season tickets, but I am bringing along some people with me who do not. I figured we would be safe just getting them at the box office but wanted to be sure we wouldn't be in for a surprise Saturday morning. Was not able to talk to a live person, but listened to the message and learned the game is sold out! No, not the Syracuse game on 9/4/10! The Can't State game on 5/5/09. No, I am not kidding. That is not at all surprising. It's the famous Cinco de Mayo effect on attendance.
  3. Syracuse 24 Akron 7 Our offense stunk in spring ball and it doesn't sound like it was too much better at the scrimmage. I hope that I am wrong. I've heard too much about how well our defense is doing against our offense in camp, and it sounds like a continuation of what I saw at the spring game. It's not a good sign for me either, knowing that we probably don't have a great defense. I'm thinking a similar score to those listed here, and hope something changes my mind before Saturday. So you're thinking a Zips win in the 13 to 15 point range. Good for you.
  4. Actually, they did. They weren't widely distributed probably, but a couple of young ladies were walking around handing them out. Shoes or rosters?
  5. Syracuse isn't the New York flagship university, Buffalo is. I thought it was Army. Since Syracuse and Army are private they can't be a state flagship university. Hey, Hilary Clinton isn't from New york, but she's one of their Senators. Therefore, Syracuse can be the state's flagship university.
  6. I am going with the Zips by 14.
  7. Do you really think it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to update the web page? Gentlemen= I am not blaming the coach for the web page/web site updating. My reference about the coaching staff was much more about the depth chart and making sure it had been submitted to someone (who...I don't know). I'm sure SOMEONE at UA could put together a depth chart, but coaches are responsible everywhere for SUBMITTING (not POSTING) the "true" depth chart. They do have depth charts. They change every day during two-a-day practices based upon the performance of the players in the previous practice. I'm sure if the web master wants one, all he has to do is ask. I'm less worried about depth charts and rosters, and more worried about what they are going to do this Saturday. I don't care about their names, who their parents are, what their favorite snack is, where they are from, what year they are in or anything else other than how they perform this Saturday. It's time to start winning....I really could care less about the person in the uniform. 20+ years of losing has been enough for me. Great. I wasn't worried about each player's favorite snack either, until you brought it up.
  8. Different strokes for different teams. I know a guy who played on the Akron soccer team 40 years ago, has moved three times to three different states since he played, and he still gets a couple of letters a year from the soccer team keeping him updated about Zips soccer. Does the football team do that?
  9. We have already told Syracuse too much by announcing the starting QB. No sense at all disclosing a roster or depth chart.
  10. Tearing down and paving (or gravelling) for parking FOR NOW would be great. At some point (within the next 2-3 years), develop it with the RIGHT kind of establishment. It would be a great spot for another tailgate lot. It would also be a great spot for a basketball arena, assuming we can acquire the surrounding properties as well. Not disagreeing with you at all, but is there space to squeeze an arena between the side streets in that area? Sorry, I don't, off hand, know the names of the 2 side streets that run into Exchange Street "surrounding" that spot (one that runs alongside Route 8, one that runs right next to the Skyway). Seems that it might be a bit tight there, but I would have to look at it again. Come September 4th, maybe I can better answer my own question as I assess the spot on gameday! Why wait? Internet. GPS.
  11. Exactly. Does anyone remember the first half of the Ohio game last year? Hint: 2 interceptions and a fumble into the end zone? 3 turnovers negated the 80 yards rushing. OK...since you bring up the Ohio game last year, lets talk about it.... Our starting QB fumbled while his leg was getting ripped off, while he was about to score the go-ahead TD against the eventual MAC East champs, during a half in which he was carry our offense both on the ground and through the air with almost 200 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, his replacement comes in and saves the day by completing only 9 of 23 passes, we muster nothing more than one 30-yard scoring drive, and the game becomes virtually out of reach early in the 4th quarter. Feel however you want about these two guys, who's better, etc. There's plenty that I don't like about BOTH of them. But, I'm completely baffled as to why you would point to the production of these two guys in the Ohio game as your supporting data in favor of Nicely? I feel as if I touched a nerve here. Not my intention to be a troll and stir the pot. I don't think it is fair to compare the performance of our quarterbacks within the Ohio game. Patrick Nicely was forced into duty in an emergency situation after #1 was kicked off the team and #2 was injured. I would never suggest that the Zips were better off with Nicely for the 2nd half. Matt Rodgers started the 2009 season as the #2 QB ready to play if CJ goes down. PN started the 2009 season as a true freshman who was going to be redshirted. Both were forced into duty under less than optimal circumstances. It is my belief that PN made better lemonade with his batch of lemons. I simply referenced the Ohio game since that was the last action MR saw in 2009. I referenced the first half of that game because he had the Indiana and Central Michigan starts under his belt at that time. If I wanted to trash the guy, I would have mentioned his Indiana performance where he threw for 165 yards and 4 interceptions. I don't want to trash him at all. Perhaps I just should have kept my opinion to myself and simply given Dr. Z a +1 response because I agree with him. Bottom line for me is this. Patrick Nicely showed me a few flushes of brilliance last year. Matt Rodgers did not. What Matt showed me was a lot of grit and determination, which I respect. Neither one have shown me a whole lot of anything so far this year to tell you the truth, but I am hopeful that Nicely will continue to develop. Nicely was a True freshman forced into duty. That kid was playing scout team at best and then in a matter of a few weeks he is under center. How many true freshman have you seen come in and be superstars? He had a 5th string running back, back up receivers, a shoddy offensive line and a team that mailed it in. I find it amazing that he played as well as he did. My entire family is made up of former D-1 football players and they overwhelmingly think this kid could be special. I agree with them. I'm going to resist asking what position your Mom played. Go Zips
  12. Although I have no real proof, I strongly suspect that Mr. Feiner, the SI.com writer of the MAC Breakdown report is of the Merry & Happy persuasion (not that there’s anything wrong with that), and as such, has absolutely no knowledge of college football (Especially The MAC conference teams), and any “How They’ll Finish” prediction of his is pure, untainted, stinky, smelly BS. He is full of IT!! (misspelling IT on purpose). I sure hope that Mr. Feiner’s stupidity helps ignite that fire/desire of every 2010 Zip player to go out and give their 100% effort of every game. I hope that Coach I inspires this team to give their best. That is all we can hope for, and that in my opinion, will ensure that the 2010 Zips are The . GO ZIPS!!! Yes. I hear he wears a kangaroo suit in the privacy of his own home. Thank goodness he doesn't wear it out in public.
  13. I wondered that too. I've heard of Southern Methodist...Presbyterian...Texas Lutheran...but I've never heard of "Catholic University"? Since he played some D-1 ball, would Devoe Torrence be a better coach than Lee Owens? Probably not. I see the "street cred point," but certain guys just aren't all that athletically gifted, yet intelligent, motivated and with a love of the game. More often than not, you'd like to see your HC with D-1 playing experience. But it isn't all too rare to find exceptions. Dambrot never played college basketball*, yet he's a pretty successful D-1 hoops coach. * Douche Bag Alert (hereafter abbreviated DBA) - Yes, I do know he played baseball for the Zips, and he got hit by a lot of pitches. Now go back to re-laminating your Bryan Hipsher rookie card. If you are not a Douche Bag, please ignore the DBA. Well thank goodness he wasn't on the rifle team.
  14. I guess I know more about the ZIPS than Tom Gaffney. It aint' gonna be 6 & 6. I expect a more reasonable prediction would be 8 & 4. OK Meister? hehe! GO ZIPS 2010 Dearest dreal, One month after you posted your appallingly pessimistic prediction, I thought I would send you a note with my sincere hope that you have overcome your bout with depression. We are only days away from Monster hands and the start of 12-0. Dreal here. Showin' suv luv for The Meister. I'm ready for some ZIPS Football! Cant wait. I'l be there. Lookin forward to meeting you. As for MH, I'm obviously excited to see him play. Can he live up to all the hype? I sure AFHS! I'll be wearin a Zippy Costume that my wife made for me and wants me to wear. I know it sounds stupid and I don't want to take anything away from The Real Zippy, but she thinks it's cute and I don't want to dissapoint the Ms.'s. I plan on being a lot 9. I'll be easy to spot. DReally looking forward to watching our Zips come away with a Big Win over the ExCuse and on our way to that possible 12-0 season. I'll keep one on ice for ya! This post actually explains a lot.

  16. I don't think that they would go to Conference USA. After reading this article, they are not really looking to do anything. At least with the Mouatin West. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/TU/a...B1_Confer242091 Temple has no interest in joining the MWC. Shocking. Please keep us posted with the latest info on this possible development.
  17. Great find. I'm a little dissappointed that it does not mention the 3 seasons he played for the Zips. But, I guess that's real minor fact when you consider what he got to be a part of in his only season in Cincinnati. Another interesting fact: He hit a big, last second bucket to beat a great Ashland team at the JAR in his last season here before transferring. And, the coach of that Ashland team was?? So, who is that other top guard to ever play here? If it's McLaughlin, I agree with you, and I think Buford played his first two seasons here as his backcourt mate. At the risk of side-tracking the thread, I will answer your question. The best guard to ever play for Akron was Len Paul.
  18. Down by 8 or less late in the game, no timeouts remaining, what do you do, fake an injury. Only make sure non critical personnel are used for this purpose because the "injured" player has to leave the game. We should start working on this right away. We don't want the Golden flushes getting an advantage over us in the area of injury faking.
  19. Wasn't he one of the nation's most prolific rushers? See link in first post.
  20. So what do you think BYU's objective is? They already were rejected in the PAC expansion. Are they sending a signal they are ready to become the 11th member of the Big 12? Seems kind of over the top for that. What's going on?
  21. I'm fairly certain if he was a Zip we would be pretty proud of him, but he's not so
  22. Brown Street is where we all used to live. At one time, it was considered modern living on campus. Christ do I feel old. I wonder what landfill they put Brown Street in? Did you play in the era when jock dorms were still legal? Yes. Some of you might be shocked to know what went on in that place. Please share..... I'm in Myrtle Beach and going to dinner. Not much time. I'll just say this. A lot of college is/was about sex, drugs and rock & roll. Take all of that in extreme forms and you will understand. Actually, consumption of the pleasures you listed is more highly correlated with being young and stupid rather than being enrolled in college. Odds are that you did not partake in any of these activities to a greater extent than any of your non-college enrolled compatriots that pursued each with a vigor equal to yours.
  23. No Ht., No Wt., No rating. http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=9&a...714&yr=2011
  24. Right on zipsMan. I don't want to one up you cause you have a legitimate beef for sure, but you actually have it pretty good. When I was in school they actually had the nerve to bring in some has-beens from 5 (yes I said it, FIVE) years ago!
