  1. OK soccer fans, order a scarf or two, then go to this link and click on tribute to the world cup It's almost like being there.
  2. Question 3. How many players does GW have listed over 300 pounds? Question 4. How many players does GW have named Zach? page down for answers........ Answer 3. Two. Answer 4. They have Two Zachs. Strangely enough one used to be named UGardner-WebbKid.
  3. 1. How many players on the Gardner-Webb team from Ohio? 2. How many players on the GW team named Bo? (they are located in NC after all). Page down for answers................ Answer to 1: One. John Rock, from Springboro, who may end up the starting quarterback. He has the most game experience of any QB on their roster. Got into 3 games last year. Answer to 2: Surprisingly, One. There is a rumor that their conference is thinking of putting them on probation for their Bo shortage. In their favor they do have a wide receiver named Petty. Word is he can motor.
  4. If memory serves me correctly, i believe this was the team that knocked off App St. after they took out #5Michigan... Let's not take them lightly! OK, Yes, these guys are good, but many experts are calling this a trap game for GW, what with the Zips being sandwiched in between contests with Brevard and Western Carolina. Thank goodness we aren't playing them in Boiling Springs.
  5. One of my favorites. With this great marketing tool, he finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting that year. Congratulations Oregon marketing on your fourth place finish and your billboard.....I guess. Billboards are a complete waste of money for selling football tickets. They are like annoying pop-up ads on the internet. Billboards are great for advertising Hooters at Myrtle Beach and getting the word out to truck drivers as to the location of the Asian Massage "Spa". Nobody drives down the road, sees a billboard and picks up the phone and calls for season tickets. Think of the thousands, maybe millions, of people who drive by billboards on Rt 8 weekly. The response rate for a billboard has to be less than 1% or every game would be sold out. They would do better with a targeted mailer to a D&B list. The one thing they are doing and should continue to do is telemarketing. My friend had four tickets last year (never had season tickets before). He received a call from the ticket office and they told him two next to him opend up. He bought his four and the other two. Upselling an existing customer is easier than bringing on a new customer. I'm actually surprised they could figure that one out. Secondly, pay athletic department staff 10% of any sales they make to new ticket holders. I know it is probably hard for the staff to stop pushing paper and "supervising" the ISP team, so give them some incentive to do it. I kindof agree. Each staff member has a base salary. Once 10% of any sales they make to new ticket holders equals their base, then pay them on top of their base an additional 10% of any sales to new ticket holders. My prediction would be that nobody will be earning more than their base salary.
  6. If he played six more years, we would only get 12 plays out of him. No thanks. Yeah, I was never quite on that hype train either, I was just wondering if he had attempted to petition the NCAA for a 6th year or if his back was that bad that it wouldn't matter. Perhaps the coaching staff told him he wouldn't have a scholarship for a 6th year. Anybody in the know? I seem to recall someone on the board (Buckzip?) mentioning that Bain already used one RS year while he was at Iowa. That, coupled with the year he sat out here due to the substance infraction/injury/whatever, means he's already used up his 6 years. I believe that is correct, but I'm sure if we properly explain about Bain to the NCAA brains that they are sure to let Bain play again.
  7. Oren Wilson sounds like trouble to me. Wouldn't it be great if we got this young man and he performed his community service in the Akron area. A good defensive player and trash pick up all in one package.
  8. #88 may be a tad overly optimistic because if you click on their roster link you will see that they still believe Bain is on the team. It's a no Bainer without his contribution the Zips are doomed.
  9. Great pic, Mama Zeke! The Zips had a football player a few years back......Jason Taylor......another fine Western PA lad.....you may have heard of him ......well as part of a marketing campaign before his senior year (if I recall correctly), he was prominently featured on several area billboards in his football gear, but with his shirt off and his chiseled physique prominently displayed. This was an early indication that JT would have the potential for other careers after (well even DURING) football. Do I see history repeating itself? Thanks for your insight and your CALMING influence! Personally, I think it would be goofy to dress Zeke up in football gear.
  10. Well, you don't mention two things in the University President's announcement last week. 1) that we are dropping down to FCS football, and 2) that we are renaming UA as The University of New Jersey so alumni can claim they got their degree from a prestigious east coast school.
  11. Easy. I concluded the exact same thing about most of the teams on our schedule. So you didn't look at the schedule last month? Hey, give poor Zach a break. He's getting better, but still frequently falls back into UAkronkid mode.
  12. Unless that QB sees more playing time elsewhere because he suspects the position could be locked down for 3 years. Buffalo now has 4 QBs coming in the class of 2010, and Licata is their first of 2011. Sounds like Joe is either one confident kid or doesn't have his finger on the pulse of Bull's recruiting.
  13. Born in 1978 Consider the following numbers: 40, 400, 4000. Which number is the closest to Jammal's age? Hence, he is close to 40.
  14. Zach, this month you predict 5 wins, last month 2, what's next month gonna be? What changed since you thought "we're crap, the coach is crap, the talent is crap"? ZachTheZip: Wow. You mention the QB situation, the running game, our defense, our pressure on the QB, and our ability to stop the run. You might have been better off to just say that everything that went poorly last year needs to go good this year in order for us to win 5 games. And as much as I am hoping for bigger and better things..I'd have to agree with you. Focusing on the positive.....I predict we will dominate the first part of the second quarter of every game.
  15. Two more: 50/50 drawings and warm soapy shower with a cheerleader raffle.
  16. If going to the tourney is really that important to KD, he must keep this web site handy. Key to the Big Dance
  17. Foreign language newspapers and radio stations.
  18. Its early, but: Syracuse win(1-0) They will be one of the worst teams in the country this year. Gardner-Webb win(2-0) This is the Runnin' Bulldogs "ATM" game. at Kentucky loss(2-1) They play Western Kentucky before Akron, so they should be rested. at Indiana loss(2-2) They also play Western Kentucky before akron, so the should be rested. Northern Illinois (Homecoming) loss(2-3) They are good and will take advantage of a new coach in his first homecoming game. at Can't loss(2-4) Before anyone says that I am crazy, let me explain: It's the Wagon Wheel game. They will not win the MAC, they wont even win the East. They will show up for this game(I mean the team, not the fans of Can't). at Ohio win(3-4) This is always an toss up game. The Zips will be more than pissed off that they loss to Can't and looking to make an example out of someone. Ohio will be the first thing they will see. Western Michigan loss(3-5) I almost put this as a win, but I changed my mind because they have a "ATM" game the week before (Notre Dame) and looking to beat down on someone. at Temple loss(3-6) As much as I think that they are using the MAC, Captain Kangaroo was right by saying that the conference to look to them on how to build a program. at Ball State win(4-6) Let's face it: Ball State Stinks and I do't even think that they willl win the EMU game! Miami (Ohio) loss(4-7) Looking at who they play this year. They have TWO winnable games this year. Akron is one and Ohio is the other. Buffalo win(5-7) Buffalo will be somewhat down this year and the Zips will finish on a good note. The question becomes, who will be there to see it? There you go an complete breakdown of this season For those interested in more details: The kicking game hurts us at IU as a 1 for 5 field goal performance convinces Icoach to cut back on attempts the rest of the year. The offense goes to sleep against MU: 3 for 15 on third down attempts. Punt return and kickoff return for TDs against the Bulls a season highlight.
  19. Yes. I would rank Patrick between 7 and 4. Is that between 7 am and 4 pm, 7 pm and 4am, 7am and 4 am, or 7pm and 4 pm? Just kidding, I realize you weren't referring to the time you would make the rating, and Congratulations. You get to sit next to dreal at all the home games.
  20. I know exactly what you are talking about. I had to move my tennis game back an hour on Sunday because I was a little sore from the triathlon I ran on Saturday.
  21. I think we should be recruiting the quarterback in this film. Takes the snap from under center and puts the ball on the money.
  22. Here's your sign.
  23. I disagree on both counts. The MAC needs to dump Temple at whatever cost (there is no cost, they don't bring in anything that improves the MAC's finances or reputation). They are not worth the money spent feeding another mouth or travelling to and from Philly. They don't help attendance when MAC schools play them at home, they don't get us a better TV contract, and they screw up our scheduling so we can't play rivals that people actually care about seeing us play. And how can they be our best program? They haven't even won their own division, let alone the conference, since joining. They don't even have enough support to have their own football stadium, instead they have to rent one from the NFL. There is so little support for football that their fans are willing to go independant or drop down to 1-AA, or drop football altogether, instead of bringing their hoops program to the MAC. If football was important to them, they would bring hoops instead of risking getting kicked out. Why should the MAC allow them to continue to leech off us with nothing in return but a few token basketball games? I remember Temple was one of the few "bigger time" schools that would come to the Rubber Bowl as Akron was transitioning to Division I. I always appreciated that and, therefore, have no problem assisting them in keeping their football program going until they can get into a better conference.
  24. I wish you and others of your ilk would stop spreading lies about the stadium team shop being incomplete. All you have to do to prove to yourself that you are wrong is consult any of several threads on this board and read the postings of ZipsNation experts who assured us the stadium would be finished by last September. On a related note, I must admit that my prediction that it would be done by the end of 2009 have proven overly optimistic.
  25. Not only can you vote for it, just like last year, you can still do it next season.
